The land did belong to Lee, but the United States seized it during the war and General Meigs decided to use it as a grave site for American war dead. This was done so that Lee would never be able to reside there again. And just because something was long ago doesn't mean that monuments to traitors should stay. In fact, if you truly want our history to remain intact then this monument which not only honors traitors, but promotes the false narrative of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy, desecrated the policy that Meigs had when he ran Arlington for decades after the Civil War of not permitting Confederate monuments there, and was opposed by the Grand Army of the Republic (an American Civil War veteran association) to it, should be torn down. This is a historic cemetery that was established for American heroes, and in the decades after it was policy at Arlington to not have monuments to Confederates nor to decorate their graves on Decoration Day (now known as Memorial Day).
As it was cloudy up here in NW PA, I see it was very beautiful skies of sun and a few low clouds amongst the blustery weather there. Blustery weather up here to but with clouds and flurries. I enjoy this tour of the cemetery and its history with the landmarks, cannons, memorials, etc...

He tried to save them, but Congress overrode his veto. Therefore, it is by law that these statues are coming down and a Trump executive decision wouldn't be able to stop it. Especially since this is the last major monument that the military is dealing with regarding traitors.

The land did belong to Lee, but the United States seized it during the war and General Meigs decided to use it as a grave site for American war dead. This was done so that Lee would never be able to reside there again. So Arlington National Cemetery wasn't started by Lee as a "grave site for VA Confederate Soldiers," but instead by the United State to honor American Soldiers.
And just because something was long ago doesn't mean that monuments to traitors should stay. In fact, if you truly want our history to remain intact then this monument which not only honors traitors, but promotes the false narrative of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy, desecrated the policy that Meigs had when he ran Arlington for decades after the Civil War of not permitting Confederate monuments there, and was opposed by the Grand Army of the Republic (an American Civil War veteran association) to it, should be torn down.
We do not need to honor traitors to keep our history intact. If this is so necessary then let us rename West Point and put a statue in Lafayette Square to the great hero of the Battle of Saratoga. A general whose greatness would ring throughout American history if not for that pesky thing he did called treason against the United States, and that is why Benedict Arnold's name means treason in America.

This is a historic cemetery that was established for American heroes, and in the decades after it was policy at Arlington to not have monuments to Confederates nor to decorate their graves on Decoration Day (now known as Memorial Day).
As it was cloudy up here in NW PA, I see it was very beautiful skies of sun and a few low clouds amongst the blustery weather there. Blustery weather up here to but with clouds and flurries.
I enjoy this tour of the cemetery and its history with the landmarks, cannons, memorials, etc...

At one point in time, a group of people put that memorial together for a reason. It would be disrespectful to take it down because you don't agree with it. Just like it would be to take down the tomb of the unknown because someone doesn't agree with it.
What if it was disrespectful to put the monument up in the first place? How long should we allow that disrespect to remain on display? 100 years? More? It's had it's time, and now at this point in time it has been removed from that place.
This was a monument that honored traitors to this nation, and they killed hundreds of thousands of Americans. It should never have been put up in the first place as it was a disgrace to all the Americans who died in the Civil War, but 109 years later and we are finally righting a terrible wrong.
Your reference to the Tomb of the Unknown makes no sense because it honors Americans who served this country, and whose remains were never recovered or identified while the Confederate Memorial honored traitors. This isn't about agreement, but about treason. And these traitors are getting the same monument that George Washington gave Benedict Arnold, the hero of Saratoga, for his treason against this nation and that is none.

He tried to save them, but Congress overrode his veto. Therefore, it is by law that these statues are coming down and a Trump executive decision wouldn't be able to stop it. Especially since this is the last major monument that the military is dealing with regarding traitors.

Democrat GOVERNOR Siezed it and turned it over to the Slave Museum.
Many statues across the East have had similar fates..
