History:
Colonists in the Thirteen Colonies first started showing conflicting feelings with the British Empire when they forced taxes on them. The colonists actually would’ve had no problem with this, it’s just that there was no say that the colonists had given consent for the BE to do this, as they had no representatives in Parliament.
Time skip to a few years into the future, where the colonists are now actively forming boycotts, protesting in the streets, and verbally attacking British soldiers. Colonists called british soldiers either Redcoats or lobsters, because of the color of their coats. The saying “Join or Die” became very popular among the colonies, as battles between colony militias and Redcoats were happening in the colonies and still some colonists did not want war.
Join the rebellion, or end up dying for acting too late.
An example of one of the motivations going to hate the British even more was the Boston Massacre. On March 5, 1770, a mob of angry colonists (some of them children), verbally assaulting a group of redcoats while also throwing snowballs, ice, and even clubs at them. The Redcoats shot into the angry mob in self defense, killing five people and injuring more. One of the five dead colonists were a child.
