I'd say this is the most brutal episode, but there are a few others that come within striking distance. Of course... season 2 is approaching, so things may change very soon. 😰

Okay, we are here. Ep 3 has "shattered many souls" (mine included ).
This is the moment where you realize that this by far not a normal show.
Powder's screams have the potential to haunt you in your dreams (a father speaking here).
Powder's VA Mia Sinclair Jenness was slightly older than ten when she was hired for this and her performance is nothing less than outstanding .
    🤩😭
This episode is the first peak in the show and many will follow. Fasten your seatbelt for this emotional rollercoaster...

Not a father (unfortunately it's never been in the cards), but I too am haunted by the end scene. My relationship to my older brother is almost exactly the same dynamic as Vi and Powder. He was the Gen X kid who played de facto "parent" when the real parents were at work, who struggled with a mix of pride and bitter, angry frustration under the pressure of that role. I was the sensitive and precocious younger sibling with a dose of childhood trauma, who struggled with feelings of inadequacy, isolation, and of being a burden, who needed validation while constantly questioning its authenticity (or as the psych folks call it, an "anxious attachment style").
That entire end scene outside speaks to me on a deep level. I empathize with Vi, and recognize elements of her inside me, but I relate most to Powder. That said, Powder took a different path in life than I did (excluding my brooding teenage years, anyway). Current, adult me is perhaps more like Heimerdinger than anyone else: wistful, a bit clownish, perhaps overcautious, but most appreciative of life's simple pleasures.

The first two episodes are great, perfect character introduction, world building, good performance, writing, amazing animation, but this is the episode that took this show from great to amazing. I remember when it came out, all my friends that have studied filmmaking, cinematography, and screenwriting kept telling me that this animated show can compete with non-animated show writing, and I was like, "I don't believe that." And then I watched the first episode and was instantly amazed and binge-watched it in two days, and this show is a masterpiece, there are literally no flaws in any aspect, and this episode destroyed everyone. I remember when I finished watching it, I had to take a break and go take a shower and reflect about what an incredible TV episode I just had watched.
I'm liking your reactions. After you finish this masterpiece, I wouldn't mind if you watched some other masterpieces like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Mr. Robot, Dark, Succession, The Leftovers, Hannibal, True Detective S1, Fargo S1-S2, The Bear, Barry, Fleabag, Severance, and Chernobyl.

Really great reaction to a powerful episode...
There are certain movie shows, games, abd TV episodes like this one that hit us with such a shocking moment that it makes you want to take a breather, maybe even find a family member to hug. Thank you for the reaction, Maddy

Now that I have watched it...
I ended just like you. Just staring at the the screen turning black, thinking "what just happened"?
Then I started to think about a dozens "what if"s and who was wrong with what... And what makes this show the true masterpiece is that there is simply to clear answer to this. Every character is relateable in what they do. They make bad decisions, but you understand why they do it.
These characters are so damn well written...🤩
    Great reaction. 🧡 Can't wait for more..😉

Great reaction Maddy such a powerful episode. 'Arcane' really is a tragedy, in that the bad things happen because of what the characters decided to do and as a direct result of that.
Looking forward to your other reactions for the show.

Yep, this episode left me speechless wondering wtf just happened. First two episodes falsely led me to believe this was a show about Vi, Power, Vander, and family adventures, not a story of tragedy. They really knocked this one out of the park.

IMO this episode is where Arcane truly starts and it is an absolute masterpiece. I watched it almost 2 months ago and I still feel like I just finished watching it 5 minutes ago. I'm not usually one to obsess over shows or movies, but Arcane is really something special. The second season (and unfortunately the final season 😭) is coming on November 2nd, so now is a great time to get into Arcane. I can't imagine having to wait THREE YEARS for it to continue! 😰

    • @jeffkoenig7402
      @jeffkoenig7402 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Let me tell you why I think the masterpiece starts in episode 1, minute 1:
Episode 3 *only* hits as hard as it does because the writers **deliberately** set you, the viewer, up for it. The first two episodes are a set up - and I don't mean they just set up the characters and the world, I mean they set the audience up to be just comfortable enough in their expectations to be able to completely flip those expectations.
We only think we know where the show is going after ep 2 because they want us to think that. The lull us into this sense that, hey, this is a show about a plucky group of kids taking on the world to change the rough hand they've been given. It's an adolescent underdog story. It's the Goonies. Yay!
It's why we all go in hoping/expecting Powder's monkey bomb to save the day. We've been misled. We're like Carrie from the Stephen King story, thinking we're about to be crowned prom queen, only to have a bucket of blood dumped on our heads.
Now, in a lesser show, ep 3's sudden shift in tone wouldn't work because it would feel unearned, like it came out of nowhere. But it doesn't here, because when we look back, we can see all the groundwork that got laid to tell us what the show *really* is, we just didn't want to believe it because "that's not how tv shows work".
Arcane's writers manage to do two things at once in eps 1 and 2: set us up to think the show is something lighter and more friendly than it is, *and* set us up for the ep 3 reveal of the show's *actual* tone.
If the initial episodes only had the same tone as ep 3, the events in this episode would not catch us off guard the way that they do. We would not have been staring at the screen in slack jawed disbelief coming to grips with the fact that, no, things are *not* going to all work out just fine.
Ep 3 *is* a masterpiece - imo one of the best episodes of television ever produced. But as a payoff, it only works because the set up was perfect.
And that's why I would argue the masterpiece level starts from the very first moments, even if it takes us 3 episodes to realize it.

@@jeffkoenig7402 Oh don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with anything you said. The first two episodes are absolutely essential (for all the reasons you listed) and play their part in the overall masterpiece, but I still feel the show really gets going at episode 3 and then it doesn't let up from there. When watching Arcane reactions I usually skip the first couple episodes and jump right to episode 3. My other favorite shows are The Good Place and Avatar The Last Airbender and both of them do similar things where they setup expectations up only to shatter them and go in a completely different direction. I won't say too much in case you haven't seen it (if not, you should definitely watch it 😄), but The Good Place actually does this with an entire season and the end of season 1 is very equivalent to Arcane episode 3. It's not that the first season isn't essential for the rest of the show (it absolutely is) but they are deliberately misleading and setting up false expectations, then they shatters those expectations and the real story begins. To use a roller-coaster analogy, Arcane episodes 1 and 2 are the slow and steady climb upward and episode 3 is the massive drop and then the ride starts with the high speed loops and turns. The slow climb is essential for the ride, but the real fun happens at the drop and onward. 😁

@@Sinultros No kidding! I wouldn't have made it. lol I feel a few months is a perfect amount of time, enough time to build up anticipation, enjoy the massive amount of Arcane content (reactions, AMVs, fan theories, behind the scenes, interviews, game lore, etc. etc.) and even add to it myself by editing Arcane AMVs... but it's not soooo long as to lose what little is left of my sanity. I am so glad there is such a huge fanbase around this show and new content still popping up to keep the hype going! 🥳

@@Tekkerue I like the roller coaster analogy. ;)
And yes, though I haven't watched most of it I do know the "thing" about TGP. I can see the comparison. I think we're both saying and thinking very similar things.
FWIW, I do the same as you and start watching reactors at episode 3. It has less to do with 1&2 being inconsequential though and more to do with the type of reactors I like to watch.
Meaning, I'll get a better sense of whether or not I'm going to enjoy a reactor's content based on how they react to ep 3 than I would from 1 or 2.
Season 2, fwiw, is likely to start with a huge bang. No need for setup episodes this time ;)

      @blackshard641 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

My fears were confirmed the way I saw you rooting for Powder, because I see in you someone who relates to her. You have a good heart. Don't ever lose it.
After watching the video, I can't say I blame you for delaying your reaction until next video. Episode 3 is rough. The first two episodes are specifically designed to misdirect you into thinking this is a traditional young hero coming of age tale, and Powder is about to prove her worth by saving everyone. Then it hits you with the reality that these are just kids... kids who are in way over their head and make mistakes, kids who have strong emotions, who have difficulty not acting on those emotions. If you sit back and think about the premise, 11-year old attempts to save family using homemade explosive device, what happens is chillingly realistic.
I, too, needed to take a break to reflect on what I had just seen the first time I watched. We're here for you when you're ready to pick up again. I can only promise that you won't regret watching the rest. It's amazing.
