Thanks for sharing. I did my lawn using zoyzia plugs and found the process so much longer...weeds also sprung up like crazy between the plugs - it was alot a work to get rid of the weeds constantly... and it seems like it will take a full year before all the spaces are filled with grass. Your method of laying the rectangle sod seems a better way to slow weeds, and even though its not rooted yet it appears to be finished.... I will adopt your method for the other part of the yard... Very well done video!
Very nice! It's looking good! Glad to see that it looks good after you broke down. I love seeing shenanigans! Bring it on. Never heard about the polymers. That's why I like watching your channel. You're always expanding my knowledge 😁👍
I never knew there was such a thing as polymer injection in the soil, I always wondered if anyone ever tried doin a sub-soil irrigation system almost like a drip system but buried under the turf.
There WAS such a thing. The company involved in the machines went under many years ago. It was very cool though. I did many many acres between here and Nevada and the result was always the same: better turf, less water.
Considering your subsoil conditions, I would have added a lot of peat moss and compost. Probably would have added a good amount of biochar and a flood of humic acid. Would I have made a mistake?
I had landscapers regrade and install new sod, and waiting at least 3 weeks to mow. Big question: how long does it take for the sod roots to start growing into the soil below? I'm at 2 weeks post-install and only seeing a few. I can still pull up edges of the sod.
Excited to see you have your lawn in. Been fun watching you work with others lawns but also enjoy watching the progress of the same lawn and it's maintenance. The polymer use in lawns is interesting... heard of them more for potted plants. Will the polymer last decades or is it degraded over a few years by microbes? Won't humic acid have a similar effect to increase the soils water holding capacity by flocculating the clay and increasing micropore space? Curious to know does humic acid also increase actual water retention too similar to a hydration surfactant?
Hey John! The Soil Moist polymer is really interesting. I'm going to be getting Bermuda sod down in FL. Would spreading it on top of the soil be ok, or does it need to be tilled in? Thanks!
@@Lawncology I’m thinking I should wait until temperatures drop to the 80’s. It’s pretty brutal out here in the summers. The landscaping company I hired was supposed to lay the sod in April, but things didn’t work out. They want to do it now, but I’m worried about the high temperatures. Thank you
You know a helluva lot more than me. So, I'm asking vs one of those, "I know better in the form of a question". Why didn't you put any humic and carbon down b4 sod? Bc of the quality of the topsoil?
That is a great question and you’ll see that upcoming on the next project. For this, I’m starting it from “scratch” as they say. Only doing a top down method. The green will be different. I am going to send the soil off for testing shortly, a couple weeks or so before I feed it topically. By that time the light dose I sprayed on the soil will have moved on. Then we start the top down process.
Used too much of that polymer stuff and it completely ruined things. It's like jelly under the lawn and when I walk on it ( 3 weeks later) it squishes out...not saying it's bad stuff but use it VERY sparingly... Would have been much better off without it then over doing it and it's very easy to overdo
Not a good video. It's literally just you yapping into the camera the whole time. Would have been better to really breakdown the entire process. I didn't learn anything.
Thank you! This is the best and only video I've found on SOD prep and whole process, with specific tips.

That renovation looks amazing! I'll bet it's going to be great sitting back, having an enriched beverage and taking in the scenery when it's all done.
If it weren’t so Smokey here, I’d be doing that now
Looking good JP. I can't wait for the behind the scenes shenanigans that actually went on. 🤪

First Aussie 😁. First Aussie 😁. Coming along nicely John, you’re home lawn is going to look great once established. 😎👍👍
For sure. Wait til you see the “reality” vid
Good to finally see some green back in your lawn. Looking good!
It feels so good to be back on the lawn and now I get to fix all the problems 😂
Long time coming and hellava journey. Looking spectacular John. 👍

Thank you for the tips! We have a new construction home and this helped a lot!
Congrats John!👏👏…lookin sweet!..Lawncology 👑..☮️👍
Congratulations on getting the turf laid! Lotta work to get to this point! Thanks for bringing us along.
Thank you
Exciting times JP. We’re looking forward to what’s to come.
It’s come a long way
Looks great JP! I know you are a bit relieved now...
For sure. It’s coming in nicely. Time to focus on the construction of the green
All the prep work that went into this. The lawn is going to be amazing. Nice work JP. 👊🏻🔥
It’s been a long journey. Hauled out 320 tons of rock, brought in 300 tons of fill soil
Looking great JP, finally some green! Keep it MOIST :D
Bout time!
So informative. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice with the lay thing. Ha. But seriously folks I’m about to “lay” my sod ,
(Sorry couldn’t resist) and this vid helped me a lot. Thanks !

Loved the video John.
Unrelated to the video, are you considering solar panels on the roof of the office structure?
I have considered that for sure

Beer was flowing.

Very interesting this hydrogel polymer. Could I mechanically aerate the lawn and meticulously put some powder in every holes?
You could but it will swell out
Looks great! What grass type and didn’t you mention a putting green at some point along the way?!?
Construction on the green starts in a couple weeks.
@@Lawncology awesome, can’t wait to see it all come together
Can you blow bubbles when laying sod?
You may have said in an earlier video, but what type of turf did you put down? Thanks! I really enjoy your videos.
80/20 kbg/rye. I’m seeding through with RPR as well.
Let the games begin oh did the truck survive after the over heating on the pass
We will have to see
if these polymers are sitting just under the soil, are the roots going to stay where the moisture is, the polymers? and not reach down for water?
What kind of grass did you put down?
Looking good is that a Zoysia?
Kbg and rye
Considering your subsoil conditions, I would have added a lot of peat moss and compost. Probably would have added a good amount of biochar and a flood of humic acid. Would I have made a mistake?
Maybe, maybe not. I kind of like starting with native and going at it over time. However: the soils is a clay loam, high CEC. It can take a lot.

What specific Polymer did you add to your soil? I see a multitude on the website that you provided.
So whats the Sod? Kbg mix or a Kbg and rye? Dont think I heard you mention it
80/20 kbg/rye. I’m seeding through with RPR as well to go a little more rye concentration.
@@Lawncology Nice thanks. I assume your putting rye for the color
@@dylan8285 yes and texture. I like the additional softness and sheen it adds
Can you do the prep one weekend and lay the sod the next? or is it best to just do it all at once?
You can of course. The longer your prepared soil sits, the higher chance of weeds slipping in
Hey John! The Soil Moist polymer is really interesting. I'm going to be getting Bermuda sod down in FL. Would spreading it on top of the soil be ok, or does it need to be tilled in? Thanks!
Do not apply to the top. Needs to be underground
@@Lawncology thanks for replying. Sorry I meant could I do soil, polymer, sod? Or does the soil and polymer need to be mixed.
@@MostlyAmy I would mix it down

I've heard that the polymers become toxic when they break down after a few years... What's the truth behind this?
Carbon dioxide and water. They just melt out.

It is easy to over do. The rate is only a few a pounds per thousand feet and you need to get it down into the soil. It’s a savior for droughts
