I’m always really glad when people don’t mind causing a bit of damage to their house to save an animal. It might be a pain but damage can always be repaired
Well you absolutely don't want a dead animal rotting in your walls or chimney. You'd have the damage it anyway to get the dead body out, and then you have to deal with the smell. So really it makes all the sense to do the damage early and prevent having the deal with a dead rotting animal body. Damage like that doesn't seem like it'd be hard to repair anyway.
Logical, but that doesnt mean there arent people out there who wouldnt care if the animal died because they didnt want the damage done. Im sure theyre the minority but im also sure that theyre out there.
@@RandiPoitras Like I said, you don't even have to care about the animal for it to be entirely logical to let them break down the wall to let the animal out. It's more trouble for later anyway.
It was beautiful to watch the man from the bird sanctuary handling her. He of course had the appropriate tools, but he clearly knew how to calm her down.
@@wildlifeaid Thank you, because this is only half of the story. And besides, we will worry about what happened, so it's best to know for sure. Thanks again.
Had a sparrowhawk fly into our front room window just yesterday. Scared the bejusus out of me. Went out side expecting to find a dead rook or blackbird and found it lying dazed on the floor. Luckily after half an hour or so sitting quietly in a cardboard box it flew off as if nothing had happened😊. Love the channel, keep up the good work
We once had the same with a woodpecker. It flew against a window and was lying in the hot sun, stunned. I think it even bled a bit, which is a bad sign in animals with so few blood. It was heavily breathing, though, so we put it in a box and put some water next to it. After 15 minutes or so it got up and drank a bit of water, then went back into its delirium. After 30 minutes it suddenly tensed up, looking around, gasping for air and jumped out of the box (it had two open sides). Luckily there was a window that went down to the floor right next to where we put it, so it hopped to the window, which we opened hastily. It flew out of the window, nearly crashing into the nearby fence. Fortunately, it managed to pull itself up just high enough to not do that. After that, it seemed to get control over its flight again, pulling further up and landing in a tree. I hope it was okay. What is still fascinating to me is how you just noticed when it first began noticing its surroundings. It looked around and then thought "Where am I? What is all this?!" I wonder what it perceived when it got up to drink. It had to have enough perception to notice the water, which must have tasted weird for the bird, but not enough to understand where it was. I'd really like to know what the bird felt in that moment.
So wonderful of the couple to call and to think the falcon was more important than some masonry work--not everybody would--cheers to them. Speedy recovery beautiful bird.
Glad to hear that the rehab people are prepared for a long-term recovery and training program. Hope that someone discussed a chimney cover ("hat") with the people that originally called in the falcon's problem
She could have gotten the damage before she went down into the wall or she was attacked before going into the wall, maybe by another hawk or another creature, At least she's getting the Help she needs to Fully Recover and hunt again :)
You can see the intelligence in her eyes. I always find it hearting that people in these situations finding out that a wall needs a hole cut in it or something just go "Well it's gotta be done" instead of complain or something, says something good about those involved. Long Rehab process but sounds like she is in the right place thanks to your help.

What a great outcome! Another beautiful wild life saved, yay! 3 cheers for Simon, Maru, and the team!!! Dan is the man. So very glad there are experts like Dan who understand these birds, and tireless compassionate driven people like Simon and Maru who make such a difference in an injured animal's life!
That poor bird! Talons are so crucial for them to survive. She must've been terrified and desperate to escape to wear her talons so short. It would be like one of us having every finger broken and not having social support to help with daily needs like food preparation, eating, or hygiene. She's very lucky to have someone willing to rehab her and teach her everything her parents would have to live in the wild. Thank you for freeing her from her predicament and getting her the care she needs.
Wow. Special thanks to the owners who called, and who were gracious in understanding that a little damage had to be done. I wonder if Simon now thinks he has seen everything? So glad you called in a specialist as training a young Peregrine who never got her parental hunting lessons and the loss of the talons would obviously have doomed her. Amazing rescue, great job Simon!!
Love this website and personally sympathize with both the home owner and the rescuer as I have been both to a variety of wild birds. My suggestion and it has worked in several of my homes: get a bird proof chimney cap.
