We had one visit us at our unit a few months back. Pretty cool looking vehicle. Local police (training at our building) saw it. wanted one! LOL. It is massive but street legal.

Seems kind of high off the ground for a recon vehicle, I thought the idea of recon was to stay concealed. Looks like it would roll easy.

The TAPV was built in response to an Urgent Operational Requirement notice issued by the government during the conflict in Afghanistan. The army needed a route-proving and patrol vehicle in a hurry and got the TAPV to fill the role. However, by the time the army actually started receiving the TAPVs, the conflict in Afghanistan was pretty much over.
The TAPV is essentially an upgraded, up-armoured version of the M1117 armoured vehicle that is primarily used by US Army military police units for route-proving and patrol duties in a combat environment. Both vehicles are a derivation of the Cadillac Gage Commando armoured vehicle, which was designed in the early 1960s and was widely used during the Vietnam War.
The tall height profile of the TAPV and lack of armament make it a mediocre reconnaissance vehicle at best. While it has greater mobility that the Coyote reconnaissance vehicle it is replacing, it can't keep up with the Canadian Army's Leopard tanks. It's better employed in reserve armoured reconnaissance units as a training vehicle and as a vehicle that has good mobility in disaster situations. Indeed, more TAPVs seem to be finding their way into reserve units, which is a good thing, but somewhat unusual as reserve units tend to get Regular Force cast-offs.
During the severe springtime flooding that happened in New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario, the TAPV was used to great effect because of its high ground clearance and mobility.

Many shortcomings in the design and has few practical applications. Unfortunately the Canadian procurement systems is "design by committee" and 7+yrs long so the military continually gets saddled with useless kit designed by people who live and work in an office. Useless piece of kit.

@@johnfitzgerald1192 pretty sure they’re runflat tires. Very much doubt they have much if any bullet resistance.

The TAPVs have Excellent protection, excellent firepower, great speed, good handling, great offroad abilities and an engine that you can BARELY hear. Very stealthy.
The height of the vehicle is a minor issue. It is perfectly capable of recce.
Anyone who says otherwise doesnt know what they are talking about.

I think this vehicle is more for reserve units to practice the recce role. The reg force will us it more for a general purpose vehicle, I hope.
I thought I read somewhere that there will be new versions of the LAV III to replace the Cyottee in the recce role.

Loud & Clear Warrant... absolute fantasy...This is in no stretch, a viable forward area battlefield platform.
As you know, this is no more than just a re-up from what was originally designed as a 'Military Police Suppression Vehicle' in Nam, 1,000 years ago.
TAPV is Flippin 2ft higher than a Leopard MBT.
The CF Recce Sqn up-grade was a no-brainer🦧.
1/..66+ Coyote II on the LAV 6.0, built-in London, hello Louisianna.
2/..500+ Haaglunds BvS 10 Viking, in order to actually properly equip every unit from Windsor to Iqaluit (It's Canada stupid).
3/..120+ CV-90 MK IVs, with varients, once offered to Canada, for operations in KAF, for a song, as an A/..as an alternative Armoured Rgt. Sqn, B/..as a Mech Bde's 1st Btn carrier, C/..as a CER Sqn asset.
      Slain te' an' Happy Hogmanay🍻
