    Hey Marla! Loved the video- thanks! I’ve been on the hunt for a video showing jelly tips over a builder gel overlay on your natural nails…. I’ve used builder to apply them on my natural nails but never over a protective overlay of builder. Could you do something like that for us? You’d be amazing! I’ve asked all across all my Facebook nail groups, Reddit, & TH-cam with no luck! As always- you’re awesome!

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey love!! So I wouldn’t ever recommend full cover tips over builder. The nail needs to remain flexible to get a good seal on a full cover nail. Builder makes the nail way too rigid. Also, the extension would do the same job as the builder - it protects the natural nail. So it completely unnecessary ❤️

    Thanks again Marla for all your hot nail tips. I think you are the only You Tuber that responds to EVERYONE’s questions! Amazing! You must really love your art and your people! 😀. So I am going on a six week vacation (yes lucky me!) and rather than going to a nail salon to continue my dip powder application (I’ve been doing my own now for 6 months, thanks to your guidance and tips), I was thinking that I would soak off my dip powder and then give my nails a break. My nails a great length but are very thin and week from years of salon acrylics where I think they over file. Do you think builder gel would be a good option (since I’m not going to bring a suitcase full of products) to keep my nails strong and healthy until I get back to dipping?
    Also, I have a travel size LED/UV lamp from Makartt but it is only 6 watts. It cures the Makartt gel,base and top coat just fine. I also use it to cure the Maniboss base/top coat (all in one) and it seems so cure fine. I use this instead of dip sealer as final step in Dip process. You mentioned a 48 watt lamp but that will likely be too big for my suitcase! Thanks so much! Appreciate you! 💕

      @MarlaKris  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey love! You’re not wrong.. I LOVE my people!! And im happy to help!
      Oooh that sounds like an amazing vacation! Yep, builder would be a great option but you’re going to wanna prep really well. I might suggest bringing some good files along just in case there’s a betrayal on the hand! If you can pack a couple things to do fill-ins, you’ll need prep, primer, gel base the builder and your travel lamp. Files and a cuticle pusher of course. I’m sure alcohol is accessible mostly everywhere! Alcohol prep pads are great to travel with if you wanna be super prepared!
      I hope you have the bestest time!! Send a post card! 🥳

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Marla, so helpful to hear about this option for strengthening without using dip.
    My daughter’s nails are so weak and brake so easily that within one day of a regular polish mani they peel. She’s so frustrated.
    Could regular polish be done over builder gel?!? This is how most likely she’s want to use it. If she removes the polish how will the builder gel be removed? Filing and soaking it?!? Also, how is builder gel different than gel base?!?
    Thx for any recommendation! 😍🤩

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey love! Yes!!! You can do anything you’d like over builder! Builder is soakable BUT if she uses nail polish remover (not pure acetone) it won’t hurt the builder.
      Builder is much thicker and stronger than gel base. Much better suited to strength and extensions where gel base is best under a gel polish for adhesion.

      Ooh oodles! Builder can be used to build extensions but I like it as a protective layer over my naturally thin nails. I do my nails pretty regularly (at least 2-3 times a week) so I’m constantly popping them off (with peel off base coat) and it prevents against breakage in between manicures. If you don’t like soaking off manicures, you can dip right over builder and when you’re ready for a new set, just file off the color, back fill the builder (if necessary) and dip again! But it WILL make your manicure a bit thicker due to the additional product on the nail.

    I can't use a nail file or anything gritty like it due to texture and noise sensitivities. Is builder gel something that can be used at home without having to buff or file it?

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, you don’t need necessarily to buff or file the builder gel but in order for it to adhere well and not lift, you would need to slightly file/buff your natural nail. You can try applying it without the filing, but it may not last very long 💕

    I know this is almost a year old, but it popped up in my feed - the information about lamps is incorrect.
    The wattage of a lamp does not tell you anything more than how much electricity the lamp uses. I have a 6watt mini lamp that cures perfectly, and I have a 36watt professional lamp that cures perfectly. To know how effective a lamp is, you'd need to know the nanometer emittance, lumens, and more. Wattage is not a good measure of a good lamp - in fact, many crappy companies are making high wattage lamps just to take advantage of this incorrect consumer assumption.
    In nail lamps, all LED lamps emit UV. All nail lamps, regardless of bulb type, emit UV because UV is what gel needs to cure. It is not possible to avoid UV exposure when using gel. It is understandably confusing because of how nail lamps were originally made and marketed, but if you get an LED nail lamp, that nail lamp still emits UV.
