    Hello everyone, thanks for tuning in!
    Obviously this channel has been quite inactive for the past few months and I apologize for that. There are a few reasons I haven't been able to make the S-Log color grading tutorial, most of which have been me being busy from work and currently being in the process of moving across the country. I really do appreciate the support on this video and should be ready to record and upload that once I'm settled down in a few weeks.
    As for the future of this channel, I never intended for this channel to be a tutorial channel, but more of a free form blog space where I can create videos about topics I'm interested in at the moment, and capture moments from my life to look back on. During last fall, I was in a deep dive phase of camera nerdiness which led me to absorbing all this knowledge about log profiles and the technical aspects of cinematography. I felt that it was only right to condense this information in a short and consumable product, and never thought it would garner this level of attention. I still am passionate about color science and videography, but just know that this channel will not have a very unifying niche in the future. I have been pretty all over the place, but do expect more consistent uploads from now on.
    Thanks again for watching!
    Drew

    I bought three A7C cameras for wedding videography. I use them all on the Neutral picture profile and manually drop the contrast and colour saturation to their lowest settings, sharpness down to minus two and set the Zebra to 100. I expose for tiny bits of overexposure zebra in the brightest parts of the scene and the results come out perfect. I even try shooting on 1080p 50fps 25mb and the results are still incredible. I get all the dynamic range I need and weddings are notorious for needing lots of it due to white wedding dresses, black suits and relentless sunlight, plus dark interiors of churches and venues. I've never needed SLOG, 10 bit or 4K so far either as I am from old-skool photography as my background and as such I compose correctly for the shot and do not need 4K punch-in etc. I am using two of the cameras with the stock 28-60 lenses which is amazing quality out of the box, and the main A7C is on a Crane 2 Gimbal with the Sony 24-105 G OSS f4 lens which is probably the best all-round lens on the market. I also have the Sigma M11 Canon to Sony E adapter for using my Canon 24-105 L f4 IS and Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM2 OSS lenses if I need to. Such a brilliant setup. Oh, and audio comes from a pair of Rode Wireless Go and Go2 mic kits attached to two of the A7Cs (the ones that I manage close to me during the ceremony and speeches), while the third A7C has a RODE hotshoe mic on, just for reference and backup sound. A 3rd Rode Wireless Go kit would be good to get soon to attach to the Vicar or Registrar while the current two go on the Groom's jacket. Lastly, I upgraded to one A7C first as the primary, to see how good it was. I previously used two Canon M50 mk1 cameras and a Canon 5Dmk2 for the three video angles. The Sony gear completely wipes the floor with the Canon cameras, which have now become backup gear only.

    I’ve been trying to figure out how to shoot in slog for the A7C for such a long time and I was so lost. This was a very well but together video and straight to the point. I’ve learned more in your 5 minute video than the countless hours of content I’ve watched on YT. Thanks looking forward to more content!🔥

    When shooting Slog2 on 8-Bit Cameras it is recommended to use 709 Color Space, rather than S-Gamaut, as it gives more flexibility in post, so give it a spin next time!

    Great video!
    I want to ask you what type of white balance you use when shooting outdoors.
    Do you use the AWB or adjust the kelvin properties, or do you manually set the white using the color passport?

    • @brewswithdrew
      @brewswithdrew  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello, it depends, if I'm vlogging with changing environments I'll use AWB because it's good enough for what I'm doing and I'm not grading that much in the first place.
      If I'm in a particular scene for a while I will set it to the closest in camera setting which won't be perfect, but it will be stable so I can adjust it in post.
      I have a white card but have never found it very convenient to use unless I was on a short film set or something.

    what about night videography? what settings best to use?

    • @brewswithdrew
      @brewswithdrew  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I use the same settings, but don't be afraid to crank the ISO. You want to over expose the image as high as possible without clipping important details, and then pushing the noise down in post. Seems counterintuitive but give it a try and you can really tell a difference.

    Not sure what I’m doing wrong. So I’m in the Manual Movie mode, but I can’t change my exposure to +2.0. I can only adjust the aperture, ISO and shutter speed?

    • @brewswithdrew
      @brewswithdrew  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem, you have to adjust those settings and look at the metering number, or an easy was to do it is go into shutter priority or manual with auto ISO and change the exposure compensation in your FN menu or in the normal menu settings, let me know if this helps

    Great explanation. Just got a a7c and i am digging deeper into the camera.
    What do you jave to say about slog3? People say not to do that since this is an 8-bit camera but there is not deyailed comparison with samples online.
    There is also hlg3, which people say that is easier than slog2 to grade and can have great results

    • @brewswithdrew
      @brewswithdrew  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! I have experimented some with SLOG3 and I have mostly had good results with it in daylight. I haven't tried it in low light as much, but as far as I know as long as you stick to the native ISOs it will be fine especially for web formats like youtube/tik tok.
      For HLG, I personally don't use it because while it's easier to hand grade(less adjustments) grading log is as simple as dropping on a lut which there are many official luts from sony and creator luts that make the whole process more streamlined.
      Hope this helps

    • @brewswithdrew
      @brewswithdrew  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can shoot in Log during any time of the day, but at night you should crank the ISO and overexpose as much as possible in order to push the noise down in post. Hope this helps!

    When i shoot in slog2 and use the colour correction lut to rec707 from sony, the greens look teal and reds look pink, cant work out whats going wrong

    • @brewswithdrew
      @brewswithdrew  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you tried Rec709? Not sure if that is a typo or if 707 is a different color space.
      As far as the sony luts, it's important to check your firmware version and colorspace/gamma. Using sgamut3.cine can introduce some weird colors if you use the sony lut, because it will normally be designed for S gamut.3 instead of the cine version. Otherwise, try with a stable white balance if you're using auto and see if you can grade it consistently
      If you want more flexibility with which SLOG or Gamut to use, I'd recommend Alister Chapman's luts which have more lut and gamut options. Let me know if that helps
