- I came. I saw. I had a go.
Today we attempt every Historical Battle in Total War: Rome Remastered. As I'm sure you can imagine, "attempt" is a very apt word. The difficulty is set to Very Hard because those are the rules.
The original Rome Total War is one of my all-time favourites so this video was a blast to make!

"I had some cavalry take the Roman's left flank. Pretty *sinister* move."
That's a good one. Well done.
The Pyrrhic Victory joke text was amazing. King Pyrrhus getting his fat W he always wanted.
That’s what’s great about the campaign. You almost never fight battles you can’t win cause you only fight when you have overwhelming odds. Ah, history.
Nah bro I've defended cities with 200 vs 2000 lol.
Nah that’s the boring part of campaigns
There’s nothing better than successfully defending an undermanned city against an army

When I played the siege of gergovia I split my infantry into two columns forming a corridor to cover the battering ram walking up to gate. Once the gate was down I got the survivors inside and the battle was over.
"civ 2 when"
Guys, guys. He already played civ4. He reached the peak of civilization games
It's not about reaching the peak. It's about watching the fall.
This guy gets it
He still has to play the weird uncle to civ games that is alpha centauri.
Civ4 colonization when

Think you got that end quote wrong, the original quote is "Varus! Give me back the Sims video! Maybe even start a little series, it was hilarious."
I never played the historical battles, but it is pretty astounding how many of them are just ambushes...
Famous ambushes!
Yeah they are designed to be pretty damn hard to give people a good ol big thonk for how to fight it (and a lot of ambushes were damn hard to win) and I must say I've come back to fighting teutoberg forest once every 3 or so years for the last 12 years so it's certainly kept me engaged.
I played the Carrhae one like 30 times before I finally had it, and had history rewritten.
3:50, Victory in one of those battles?
Insta-like given! 👍
4:38 you killed Hannibal but lost the battle? that doesn't feel right because killing Hannibal is the whole point of the Punic War...
Carrhae is the hardest of all the battles, so it's no surprise to lose so badly to them. It would be much easier if your cavalry didn't die in a cut scene.
You really have to retreat to that sand hill and take them from there. It can take a long time but eventually history was rewritten.
Teutoburg is imo the hardest, never won it
Carrhae is the easiest on VH. You immediately go to the little hill, wait for them to try and come up, and charge down. The good thing about the old Rome1 and Medieval 2 engine is collision, particularly charges going downhill. You break the formation you hit because the first two rows in that formation are out of formation.
@@johnirby8847 Oh it's definitely doable, but if you don't know how or you are just too slow doing it, you are going to get broken.
@@tomgymer7719 yeah you gotta be quick! On all the historic battles on VH!
Taken aback by the completely random Italian sentence and the amount of effort you put into actually pronouncing the words right.
Looking into your backlog of videos was a good choice
Fun fact: the battle of telamon, the only battle that you won, is arguably the most difficult one.
Not even close, Gergovia, Siege of Sparta, and Carrhae are the hardest by far.
@@B4rry16 Carrhae is just on an entirely new level on its own. I've never even seen anyone beat it on very hard.
Telamon is tricky to win in the sense that you have to trigger a mass chain rout of the first Roman army or you’re pretty much guaranteed to lose eventually. You won’t have enough men to deal with the second Roman army, otherwise.
Personally I found Asculum to be the most difficult of these battles. It took me like twenty attempts to finally barely win one. Carrhae and Teutoberg Forest are also really tough. Sparta is winnable, but you really have to micromanage your pikemen and spam the attack command to make sure they don’t derp out and get slaughtered.
Gergovia is actually easy@@B4rry16
@@B4rry16gergovia is easy, just do a square, lake trasimene, Sparta and teutoburg are the hard ones
8:50 generals after winning a battle: clearly I’m the best Augustus to ever live
3:24 "Good boy brigade" :D :D :D
Hell yeahhh battle of Carrhae! Parthia Stroooong💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
My theory is that the dev just slapped everything that makes the ai stronger in newer tw games, more aggressive ai, better stats(damage/moral), nerfed player's troops. etc, into the remastered without rescaling the army sizes of both sizes. In other words, the original is already fairly difficult and now the ai cheats rendering some battles nigh impossible in very hard difficulty, some are hell of a struggle even in easy! Jesus Christ!
Its the same difficulty as the original.
I wanna see you do the full series of RTW historical battles where you try until you beat it in vh difficulty!
This channel is going to sky rocket.
How do you lose to Egyptians? Egyptians have been on a 3,000 year losing streak, smh
Civ 5 round 2 or what
Amazing video! Keep up the good work brotha😎
Ah yes, Rome. Back when Civilization meant diseased slum cities and the most advanced military tech still was "pointy stick"
bravo, super underrated vid
It's "Friends, Romans, Citizens".
Another comment for the algorithm
Is it me or do certain cities of the opposing factions just never acclimate to being Roman? I build all the necessary infrastructure that should quell them, but it's revolt after revolt after revolt, which results in them going rogue and me having to reconquer them, and rebuild half the city again, just to have them revolt and riot over and over....garrison men in the city .. revolt.. garrison men in forts nearby.. revolts.. wtf?
Someone needs to learn to read the mythical *c i t y i n f o r m a t i o n t a b"*
What have the Romans ever done for us?! - Them, presumably
Why do they make us play as the faction that lost the actuall battle I will never know.
The generals spent years studying, training and fighting and lost, but certainly nerds that laze around in front of a pc will certainly win.
is the alesia battle i belive, so you should had enter in the walls, and do a "double sieg" whitch means doing a sieg on both sides (lol)
I remember i got spawn-killed at one of those battles, Raphia i think, don't remember. Random siege engine insta-killed the general
Put your infantry into two lines and send the cavalry too stall the Gauls that’s how I won the battle of Gregovia
first video i've seen. good shit!
Use the rifle! If you streamed this i’m very sad i missed it.. love these videos and total war is one of my favorites games
How do you watch ai vs ai battles in this game
This was great!
So… Civ 2 when?
love it i sent my dudes & got killed sounds like how I play lol
Will you continue the hitman series or no just a question :)
Probably, yes!
@@GamesOnHardMode ooh 😮

You're supposed to kill elephants with velites and arrows. Not spears.
As usual great stuff man :D
Sup with the resolution? Is this a meme or something? Like your stuff, but this porridge was hard to watch.
