    Regarding your AC, buy a second filter. That way, you only have to turn off the AC for a few seconds to switch filters. Then you can clean the dirty filter at your own pace and use it the next time, rinse repeat👍

    that squeak under the hood, it may be the bearing going dry in the belt tensioner or one of the idler pulley bearings. Those items are not expensive, I would change all three of them to be proactive. Make sure the alternator bearing spins freely and seems ok and the Air conditioning clutch bearing needs to be checked too. Any of these parts can be producing that squeak but replacing the cheaper idlers and tensioner device should be done to keep you out of trouble down the road, they will be a source of probable trouble sooner or later so deal with them now so you can be confident of less potential for breakdown.

    • @KurtfromLaQuinta
      @KurtfromLaQuinta ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A quick test to make sure it’s just not the belt… spray a little water on the belt. That water will lubricant the belt. It’ll stop squeaking quickly.

    Of course they want to sell you on "rebuildable" shocks...but without a doubt, "normal" shocks such as Bilstein, KYB, Rancho, Monroe, etc...will last you CONSIDERABLY longer. I know it's tough trying to figure who's right and who's wrong amongst all this advice you get. The fancy "rebuildable" shocks are nice for plush operation, but that comes with a price...and you're paying it. BTW...your 4th of July attitude and outfit just straight up rock. You're awesome.

    Sarah, You can cover the panes of glass in your windows with Aluminum Foil (shiny reflective side facing out) and that will help to keep the morning sun from heating up the casita. That way your mini-split won't have to work so hard to cool down the interior of your living space. Which should help you a great deal. If you use the foil to reflect the sunlight the black-out curtains won't heat up and as a result they won't retain heat during the day. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I

      @@TobyCostaRica - I was talking about something that is cheap that could be put up right away. If she wanted to do what you're talking about she could buy REFLECTIX. But that would take some time and would also be more expensive then buying a simple roll of aluminum foil and tacking it up on the inside of the windows with a little Scotch tape. She's leaving town soon so it would be more cost and time effective to just put up the Aluminum foil right away. If they don't already have the Aluminum Foil it would cost her about five bucks to do the job right away. :-I

    I accidentally left a candle burning in my bathroom of my motor home. It eventually liquified the whole candle and the glass cracked and alloaed it to run out with the wick still burning on the fiberglass counter and lit the bathroom on fire. Fortunately the neighbor saw the smoke and the fire dept. put it out.
    I suggest putting the candle in a skillet on the stove just in case. Side benefit is the heat will go out the stove vent so less heat added to the house!

    Good shocks are shocks that don't cost $700 to rebuild every year.
    Good shocks are shocks you can rely on for years on end.

    Wonderhussy...You need sunscreen screens covering on the outside of your windows. They mount outside and attach to the exterior window frame. I have them and they stop the suns rays outside the house. The hardware stores here will build them if you measure for them. Don't get the black ones. I have beige. You wont need them anywhere under the overhang or where the sun cant shine on your windows. With curtains on the inside, the heat is still getting in and being absorbed by the glass and curtain. The sunscreens will stop a lot of the heat and keep it outside. As for the outside wall by the fence maybe you can build a higher privacy fence to block the sun on the side walls of the casita. And if you have a crawl space over your ceilings and under the roof, you need an exhaust fan to circulate and vent the attic heat outside. Mine went out and it makes a huge difference. Good luck. Stay awesome!! Happy Birthday Merica!😎

Also buy some eye screws they are the screws with a loop top that you can screw to the wood under the eves also you'll need paracord. You can tie the shade cloth to the bottom of the chain link fence. Another thing lookup solar paint/heat paint for roofs. Many years ago in North Vegas across from Nellis myself and my partner lived in a 30ft 1958 school bus. We block off the windshield and there was a plywood wall behind the driver's seat. I put in a very small swamp cooler in the back window as it was broke anyway. It kept the bus around 72° all summer. Did have a tree close that help a little.

    Hey @Wonderhussy. Ask your shock guy if they can fit boots on them to keep dirt out.
    Bilsteins have them for a reason.

    do yourself a favor and never get rebuilder able shocks, just get regular shocks and if goes bad you just get another one and Bilstein shocks is good can't go wrong.

    This might sound kinda cheesy, but plant some mulberry trees around the back side of the Casita. They grow fast and in a couple years depending on the size they were when you planted them, they will shade the casita completly. They dont tequire lots of water either. Bonus is the yummy fruit you get frim them. Unless you get a male then it will just flower. Either way you get lots of shade drom a tree that can take the heat.

  • @JimmyRussle
    @JimmyRussle ปีที่แล้ว +8

    the temp control on the ac is so it knows when to auto shut off the compressor based on your temp preference. With it being so hot, even if you turn it down to 68 or whatever, it will not actually get any cooler because you are basically maxing out your AC right now. It cannot overcome the size of the room added with the poor insulation and extreme heat outside.

      Indeed...when it gets over 100 degrees you're screwed unless you're running an industrial A/C like they do in convenience store chains. Those are big boys. There's nothing she can do about the casita aside from building a shade wall on the west side or building a cover/second roof over the whole thing. I'd bet the house itself has poor attic air circulation...a lot of people don't realize how important that is.

    Unless the scorpions get inside your septic tank - not very likely at all - no need to worry about them coming up the shower drain or bathroom sink drain.

    Waking up on the east coast with Wonderhussy. . . . . . . . on TH-cam. . . . . . Any-who, this was a delightful show. You turned a hot blistering time in Death Valley into an interesting outing. And at the end of the day, laying on your chariot of solitude, you were content and happy. Life is what you make it, Wonderhussy. It's good to see you smile. . . . .

    Girl!! You live in a Shed!?!? That thing isn’t insulated like a standard house so that tiny place is basically an easy bake oven!! You should be allowed to live in the home.. especially in this heat!! An evaporative cooler would be a great option too!

    Re: cooling; Shade sails hung between the Casita & main house, also on the sunny side of the Casita & fence, put some shade cloth on that chain link fence in the back, misters help too. Be a great place to set up aquaponic or hydroponic garden system, they maintain practically themselves & the sound of water is cooling too. Earthships being built in NW New Mexico are full of ideas about desert dwelling, maybe take a solo adventure out there? Thanks for sharing your random solo adventures, my own have led to some of the best times in my life, adventure on!
