    The real difference between this era of music and new modern music is that you can hear subconsciously that older music breaths more, sounds more live and natural. Its recorded analog, no chance to fix mistakes and all. These days music is all digital recorded put through the computer and they pro-tooled the shit out it. copy pasting riffs and drums, pitch adjusting everything. They tweak everything to its timed like an atomic clock and every layer super crisp. In older recordings its all just less precise where the guitar will sometimes come in slightly behind or in front of the beat and the drummer will slow and speed tempo slightly because they are humans. Not everything aligns perfectly. Makes music contract and expand a bit during a song, breath. Its why this music will always be appreciated.

    So the story of what led to this song and their music is so fascinating. The guitarist used to work in a factory and one day he accidentally got the tip of his finger chopped off. Since he loved playing guitar, he created a metal tip for his finger. Since he couldnt play in the normal key, he down tuned the guitar which led to that heavy sound which later defined the genre of metal. The guitarist is also probably one of the best in history. The way he just blends from one riff to another seamlessly is just immaculate.

    Black Sabbath was the first concert I went to, back when I was 12 years (1999). They did the reunion tour and It's the last time all of the original line-up has been on tour, so I'm very glad I got to experience that. I had already been listening to Sabbath for a few years, since my dad had their vinyls. He knew me and my brother would love to go and I'm glad he didn't think 12 is too young to go to a Black Sabbath concert 😊 Anyway, I was gonna refer to Lex's comment about "this sounds raw". Sabbath recorded their albums as a group, they played as a band in the studio unlike nowadays, when a band records all instrument separately and multiple layers. I believe this album was recorded in 2-3 days, which is mind-blowing. Nowadays That's one song, if that. And obviously audio quality wasn't what it is now.
    And I agree with Brad, this isn't super enhanced so it pierces your ear and brain. It's a quite a smooth buzz and an organic sound.

    Sabbath is heavily blues-influenced which is most likely why you enjoy the music more than more modern metal. There have been multiple singers for Black Sabbath. My personal favorite is the one which replaced Ozzy.. Ronnie James Dio. I am 100% positive you will both love the song 'Heaven and Hell' with Dio on vocals.
    Enjoy the ride.

    The guitarist from Black Sabbath lost his finger tips on his right hand when he worked at a Factory at like 17 or 18 years of age- in the 1960s. He put on prosthetic finger tips which were like rubber and taped on and that what he used to finger the notes on the neck. Amazing

    • @Bloodyglove9939
      @Bloodyglove9939 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BradAndLex definitely made it harder. He can't feel the strings. He gave up guitar after it happened and got severe depression. Like a year later he became inspired after he saw and disabled war veteran living life with disfigurement and picked the guitar back up again and he had to relearn how to play. Black Sabbath took the Beatles stuff and Led Zeppelin stuff and put darkness and morbidity to it and are credited with the beginnings of what is Heavy Metal. Metallica took the inspiration of Sabbath and Punk and created Thrash Metal (speed and hard) and actually created modernized Heavy Metal. Tool is heavy but changes time signatures and is Progressive Rock/metal. Rush is one of the founding bands of Progressive Rock. Rush "XYZ" is whacky and unique and is Progressive rock but without Tools Darkness lol.

    • @daveminers3404
      @daveminers3404 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BradAndLex He (Tony Iommi) also tuned down his guitar because it made easier for him to bend the strings and he really liked the darker sound that resulted. I'm thinking that's why you find the sound so appealing too. Because Sabbath is generally considered the birth of heavy metal I sometimes wonder what hard rock and metal music would sound like today, 50 years later, had Iommi not had that accident and had to relearn how to play his instrument. He is also known as the "Riffmaster". Ronnie James Dio once said of Iommi that most guitarists were successful if they came up with three great riffs in a career. Iommi came up with three great riffs A DAY. All things considered, he's the GOAT in my opinion. Try listening to "Supernaut" or "Symptom of the Universe".

    I met Ozzy once, Black Sabbath are from my home city of Birmingham UK! The birthplace of heavy metal FACT, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Rush, Saxon, Rainbow, and about a dozen other bands I can't remember! The City went south in the 1980s, and we had to suffer the embarrassment of Duran Duran, on my bloody doorstep! My girlfriend used to go round their houses for tea with their mothers! Who am kidding, everybody loves a bit of Duran! 😆😎🇬🇧

    None of this ever needed to be improved. They always started with a riff, humming the harmony, lyrics written, then played the next day. Masters of bringing a song all the way home. You guys are great! This is a social comment during the Vietnam era.

    The guitar riff at the beginning of the song is what they are talking about. It's fairly easy to learn and will get playing the guitar. Black Sabbath are like Led Zeppelin. They do not have one bad song in their catalogs. You can rank them however you like them in that group they are all excellent. That's why they're both in the Rock and Roll Hall Fame

    I bought Warpigs the day it was available in the Armidale record store. (NSW, Aust). I love Ozzy Black Sabbath.
    Ozzy always sang with the bass line. Early Sabbath could have been so much more if Ozzy had thought more about his vocals.
    But life changing for me none the less.

    This opening note is simultaneously easy and cool sounding at the same time.
    Tony simply bent the E string behind the nut to give it that sinister, foreboding sound. I know they got an EVH guitar in the mail, it’s a good thing to practice on.

    In the song they put him in a time machine he saved the world and when he came back he was turned to Steel but he could still see and hear and ended up as a statue one day he woke up and killed everybody. Ozzy wasn't always a creepy old man. Okay yes he was.

    You missed the last part of the song's story; where he grew resentful over being ignored and started the very apocalypse he saw the aftermath of in his time travels. So by sending him on that mission they in effect caused the very tragedy he saw as a consequence of attempting to meddle with time. Really fun sci-fi horror story and a legendary song.
