    We haven't done a video tour of our house as we feel it could potentially compromise our safety. Being a house, there's less security in some ways than there is with an apartment. We also never released apartment tours until we had moved out. I hope you feel better living in Phnom Penh, and we will miss you around Siem Reap. Stay safe and take care.

      They may not stop, but I have ensure that I will be more cautious about my details going forward. An email can come from anywhere in the world. Why are you opening email from unknown senders? You are actually leaving a city because of one commentor on your youtube? Wow, am 66 years old living in Thailand and could care less about commentors or things people believe or say....and would never open emails from unknown senders. Seems simple, yet everyone sees things differently

    • @FrugalWanderer
      @FrugalWanderer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      I have a public email address for folks to use to reach out to me. I have it locked down and only allow for text to come through. I am very careful about what I open and I have had a ton of great interactions with folks that are sometimes too shy to post questions on comments. They can reach out and not be afraid of ridicule online in the comments. I have quite a few folks that are more comfortable communicating that way. Especially with questions about moving to Cambodia.
      This was a single person that was local to Siem Reap. The fact that they were watching my windows in the morning was the really creepy part.

      @@FrugalWanderer I'm pondering a move to Cambodia next year. After having spent some time travelling around the country a couple of months ago, my list of places where I might move is: Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, and Kampot. It probably won't be Phnom Penh (too expensive comparatively), but I could do Siem Reap or Kampot. Kampot has the advantage of lovely breezes off the river which make it a few degrees cooler than Siem Reap.

    Hi Sean great advice to all vloggers out there, keep your home incognito. I'm a first time viewer of your channel and I'm really sorry that you have to deal with such a person. As the old adage goes "one bad apple...." spoiled your Siem Reap experience. I can see that you are rightfully angry and conflicted on being forced to move, even though moving around is not an issue to you when you do it by your own freewill, it's another when you have to do it for your own physical and mental safety, I'm so sorry for that. Not that you had to do it, but I watched the whole video hoping to glean the genesis/reason why this inhuman came after you and how you were made to feel threatened, not out of a sick curiosity but as another learning experience for all vloggers to learn to avoid.
    I wish you the very best health and happiness in PP.

    • @FrugalWanderer
      @FrugalWanderer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would love to understand the genesis of it myself. The thing is that I had only been in Siem Reap for a short while when I got the first email. I hadn't gotten any comments from them prior to the email. I also never met them during my time there or at least they never approached me and said who they were.
      I've met dozens of folks in Siem Reap that had watched my content and I always made a point of asking their names or handle on TH-cam in the hope that one day I could put a face to my tormenter, but I never was able to.

So if I am in a setting with multiple people, I tend to clam up and that's not going to help. Haha

    Hi Shaun.
    In Southeast Asia you are going to meet loads of weirdos unfortunately, and you will probably meet more in Phnom Penh than you met in Siem Reap.
    They will almost always be tourists or expats
    I think you weren't aware of this so much because you had spent so much time with positive interactions with people. But believe me, there are plenty of nut cases in Cambodia and all you have to do is to look on the forum Cambodian expats online, and you will see plenty of stories of these people and their shenanigans.
    So far you have been experiencing Cambodia with the rose tinted spectacles, lol.
    I don't think you should have moved. You should have just contacted the police and reported the person to TH-cam or something like that.
    The thing is SE Asia is extremely safe for tourists. The best thing you can do is just to ignore nut cases. Do not engage with them and they will get bored and move on.
    It's places like South America that you need to be careful in, (with a similar scenario) because you have a real chance of being in danger when local people start going out of their way, to finding out where you live, and all that sort of stuff.
    Ok, in SEA, will meet plenty of nutters, as there are a lot of long-term Expats, many that are serious alcoholics in Cambodia, who have a very bad attitude towards life and people in general.
    Just be prepared for that aspect of Southeast Asia.
    Cheers.

    PP being a bigger city makes it easier to hide and be unnoticed, however there are advantages in everyone knowing where you live,,, as one day while I was out walking I suffered from heat stroke, lost orientation and sat down on the kerb. However a tuk-tuk driver going past realised something was wrong and he knew where I had lived for the last 17 years, helped me on board and took me home. Never accepted payment , dont know who he was and I probably would not recognise him if I saw him again.

    Sorry, only just seen this.
    I’ve lived in SR for over 6 years and I don’t do anything public like TH-cam!. Unfortunately I learned the hard way it’s best to have very little to do with most people, in particular expats. I came here prepared to make friends and have done so, there are some wonderful people here, but others stole from me, lied to me and some did other pretty inexplicable things. As you know, it’s easy for these weirdos to live in Cambodia and a lot of this crap has to do with drugs, alcohol and mental health issues. They are often here because they can’t make it in their own countries.
    As time goes by I’ve also come to realise there’s also expats here who have “reinvented” themselves. They allocate themselves qualifications and experience they don’t really have. Sometimes this is just silly but there’s a few. for eg, claiming professional skills, medical knowledge etc and they are just dangerous. I’ve even seen expats start off here being absolutely fine, having high hopes and aspirations and gradually turning into the type of crazies I don’t want to know, usually via drugs and alcohol. I suspect some long-term expats will have some pretty good ideas about who the person who bothered you might be. There’s a few well known trouble-makers hanging around here.
    Best keep a little more of your life to yourself. Decide what to share and give them nothing more.
    Hope things are working out in PP.
    Good luck.

    I can only encourage you to not engage further with viewers unless you met them in person already. Parasocial relationships happen way too quickly on TH-cam. A viewer likes you, sends you a message and after you reply they think you're their best friend. It's scary and most people have to deal with someone like that at some point, especially small TH-camrs like yourself. It's important to break up contact right away and block them. They get mad for a day and then never think about you again. But if you continue to engage, they will attach themself further and further to you and often times it results in stalking. Look, you can stay at my house in Phnom Penh. I'm looking for a youtuber . Your welcome to film my crazy life. I was in Kampot last weak and crashed on an ATV tour. Went to the hospital Phnom Penh . Good experience for cheap. Treatment would have cost thousands in the US. I don't care if anyone knows where I live. I have guards everywhere. Live across the street from the King.

Someone watching you and sending emails saying what they saw you doing the day prior wouldn't make anyone feel paranoid. It must just be me. Haha

      @@FrugalWanderer I don’t know if this is a woman and if this is something similar to the Fatal Attraction story but I hear you. I had two such cases where I never met the woman: in one case I received a letter from a woman who sent a piece of her hair and provided details of stalking me. Apparently she saw me playing drums at a wedding and somehow found my address and phone. (This was a decade before the internet). The second case was a woman whom I never met but would not stop calling and kept talking sex for hours. Actually this reminded me of a third case of similar behavior. So I hear you. Sometimes disappearing is the best approach. The world is full of nut jobs.

    Hey Bro, don’t do it, seriously man, you are making a big mistake. For a start, they will follow you to Phnom Penh anyway, they may even follow you to another country. My family and I were stalked by a two-time murderer who left “calling cards” at our back door. Another supposed “friend” tried to terrorise my family after that. We’re sure that another nutcase tried to drug my wife and when my family and I lived in a caravan park/ trailer park, a drug dealing/woman bashing scum bag threatened to burn our bus down. And I didn’t run from any of them. You need to stand your ground, stay where you are. The moment you video anything, they will study it until they work out your position or your movements. I’ve got a good friend in another country and he sent a video to us and all I did was study google maps and his video and I told him what hotel he was staying at, and I was just doing it for fun. Just imagine how easy it is to track people down, who have evil intentions. NO! STAND YOUR GROUND! They are gutless cowards and you just need to be patient. Hang in there bro, hang in there.

      To clear the air.. This is not my first Rodeo so to speak. I have dealt with this kind of bullshit in the past and was able to resolve things. The thing here is that I am on a journey for myself. I have made great strides physically, mentally and spiritually since arriving in Cambodia. I am moving on for myself and that is all. I just want to have a chance to move on with my journey. If it starts up again, then I will deal with it when it happens. Also understand that I am living in Cambodia. There are things that we do in the west that are unacceptable here. All I am doing is moving on so that this either resolves itself or it doesn't. I am just not going to give it any more energy for now.

    Jeez Sean, that sucks. Glad you're doing what you have to do. Unfortunately this isn't the first I've heard. There was a US retired woman wanting to document going to Thailand, built up a following, had to go back to the US to wrap up affairs. Figured she would return by cruise from Seattle to Japan then on to Thailand. While onboard she became convinced she was being targeted for some scam. Reporting real time...then poof. Whatever the reason, someone with issues dealing with TH-cam people caused her to remove her channel to protect herself. On the plus side there are good people out there, but carefully guarding where you are appears to be necessary. All the best from a fellow Canuck.
