Eating beef is not harmful to our body but drinking alcohol and intoxicated things are harmful to our body and causes many problems so if some goons want to ban on eating beef then rather demand for prohibition of sale of liquor cos liquor is very harmful to human being if drink without limits.

Sorry my fellow Indians from NE, i personally have an emotional sentiments attached to cows and i cannoy see them being hurt forget about killing. We do not consider them as just an animal. We worship them for a reason. For ex if a cow sees any animal being in distress a dog or a pig whatever, she will come running to help and not run away. The bond between a cow and her calf is not like other animals that for aurvival she will abandon her calf. She never does that.

Humanity got from being a wild animal to a social being with the luxuries of liberty and democracy by a mechanism, where in, the sentiments of other people, especially that of majority, however complex it might be, ended up being respected. Refined interest in a type of food is not a sentiment. So mutual respect doesn't make sense. I understand, no one can ever force anyone to eat or not eat anything. But for an already complex society as that of ours, a lot of sacrifices are needed to maintain peace and harmony. Who are willing to take the first step?

Horse meat is legal to eat in the US, as long as you kill and butcher the horse yourself, only funding for federal inspectors has been taken away, but if it's not being sold or served to someone else, you can kill and eat it yourself. I'll tell you a story, true one. In south, in many areas these cow smugglers went to people's home at night and stole the cows for meat. And situation became so that these smugglers negan bringing riffles and take the cows infront of the house owners on gun point. And second, these smugglers They roam at night along highways and smaller areas and gather younger bulls who were living on their own and they transport them forcefully mercilessly at night for kill houses. By morning they'd be gone, they wouldn't even wait a day to kill because local law had banned beef. If you raise a cow, you'll know. Its more than an animal. Its family. It's a source of milk and earning through for many people. They're considered as mothers. If someone steals your cows for killing them. So people started fighting back and unfortunately mainstream media only showed the lynchings and never showed why it began because of the ruling party in that state. No one from even another district knew why it began, only people of same taluk Nd district found Nd through word of mouth. And sad part was even police refused to tKe FRI and when forced they file cases but never investigated and never caught anyone because these smugglers all belonged to ONE community. And some police said, let it go itll create tension in area, it's just an animal. And some were helpless because they were ordered not to arrest anyone. And this is not one or two cases, dozens and dozens cases happend again and again. It was like that, instill remember it was few years ago. People should know both sides of the story of lynching. Legal does not necessarily equate to ethical. Taking the life of an animal for the sake of taste is morally questionable. The freedom to choose what one eats should not be a justification for killing animals. Even if a practice has historical or cultural significance, it should not be perpetuated if it is unethical. As a society, we must strive to improve our behavior in all aspects.
As a Northeastern i sometimes feel fear to go Delhi , UP or some other states even though it's my own country since there is a constant feart that someone may gun me down for food habits etc. I rather going to some European or East Asian countries would be safer even though it's not my country.

Most places are relatively safe. Despite bad things happening, just like other crimes it happens in a very manageable way. I can almost guarantee that you'd have a good time in almost the whole of India... Yes bad things happen but the state by and large is safe for common people. Moreover if you really are concerned, there are many regional diasporas of different communities across Indian especially in large cities. You can approach the North Eastern groups/people online and get a better idea if you want to go and how to enjoy the place without worrying about something.

I am a proud Sanatani(Hindu). I love Cows, our mythological scriptures have cows mentioned in them. Cows are associated with God. Hence cows(Only Bos indicus) are sacred to us. Sorry my fellow Indians from NE, i personally have an emotional sentiments attached to cows and i cannoy see them being hurt forget about killing. We do not consider them as just an animal. We worship them for a reason. For ex if a cow sees any animal being in distress a dog or a pig whatever, she will come running to help and not run away. The bond between a cow and her calf is not like other animals that for aurvival she will abandon her calf. She never does that.

This is where Dr. Shashi Tharoor falls short of being a leader. His perspective is theoretical, literary and general. Humanity got from being a wild animal to a social being with the luxuries of liberty and democracy by a mechanism, where in, the sentiments of other people, especially that of majority, however complex it might be, ended up being respected. Refined interest in a type of food is not a sentiment. So mutual respect doesn't make sense. I understand, no one can ever force anyone to eat or not eat anything. But for an already complex society as that of ours, a lot of sacrifices are needed to maintain peace and harmony. Who are willing to take the first step?
A democracy merits only a willing sacrifice, no persecuted demands. Would only work if someone gives without anyone ever asking. Not sacrificing doesn't merit any blame either. It's just a catch 22 situation we live in. I just wouldn't go to the extent of comparing the pain of food lovers to that of an animal lover.

I'll tell you a story, true one.
In south, in many areas these cow smugglers went to people's home at night and stole the cows for meat. And situation became so that these smugglers negan bringing riffles and take the cows infront of the house owners on gun point.
And second, these smugglers They roam at night along highways and smaller areas and gather younger bulls who were living on their own and they transport them forcefully mercilessly at night for kill houses. By morning they'd be gone, they wouldn't even wait a day to kill because local law had banned beef.
If you raise a cow, you'll know. Its more than an animal. Its family. It's a source of milk and earning through for many people. They're considered as mothers. If someone steals your cows for killing them. So people started fighting back and unfortunately mainstream media only showed the lynchings and never showed why it began because of the ruling party in that state. No one from even another district knew why it began, only people of same taluk Nd district found Nd through word of mouth. And sad part was even police refused to tKe FRI and when forced they file cases but never investigated and never caught anyone because these smugglers all belonged to ONE community. And some police said, let it go itll create tension in area, it's just an animal. And some were helpless because they were ordered not to arrest anyone.
And this is not one or two cases, dozens and dozens cases happend again and again. It was like that, instill remember it was few years ago. People should know both sides of the story of lynching. (I dont support it, but this is the truth media hide)

Whilst I condemn lynching my question is why do some people deliberately act to insult the sentiments of others? If one community respects an animal and as a gratitude for what animal gives to humanity bans the consumption of its meat and passes a law which is made known to everyone, why should it be repeatedly breached to an extent that it enrages the other and makes him or her act violently? Isn’t such an act considered to be a deliberate attempt to disturb peace and harmony?

Legal does not necessarily equate to ethical. Taking the life of an animal for the sake of taste is morally questionable. The freedom to choose what one eats should not be a justification for killing animals. Even if a practice has historical or cultural significance, it should not be perpetuated if it is unethical. As a society, we must strive to improve our behavior in all aspects.
As a Northeastern i sometimes feel fear to go Delhi , UP or some other states even though it's my own country since there is a constant feart that someone may gun me down for food habits etc. I rather going to some European or East Asian countries would be safer even though it's not my country.
For you hurting others sentiments is not as important as eating I guess I have many northeastern friends and they respect our culture same goes with us we respect theirs but if you wanna blame whole hindu community I m sorry you should go to Europe or somewhere else you wanna go

Most places are relatively safe. Despite bad things happening, just like other crimes it happens in a very manageable way. I can almost guarantee that you'd have a good time in almost the whole of India... Yes bad things happen but the state by and large is safe for common people. Moreover if you really are concerned, there are many regional diasporas of different communities across Indian especially in large cities. You can approach the North Eastern groups/people online and get a better idea if you want to go and how to enjoy the place without worrying about something.
