@@Carolharen it is not different vocal tones or styles. It is the singing ability. I follow so many groups. A good singer never sings a line in a straight tone. There are highs and lows, vibratos plus notes are highly precise with a proper ending note. If young singers are not singing like that it does not take away anything from them, yes they do try their best to cover such songs but we cant say that it is the difference of vocal tones. It is the singing ability to sing complex songs. We have great examples in 2nd gen idols and not only kpop but also other music industries. Indian, Pakistani, chinese philipines. Even in USA. One can easily tell who is a good singer. And all have different singing styles and their own music. Specially classical music, R&B or rock,Jazz. A good singer knows how to sing in different styles. Bcz they can express it well. I am a hardcore music fan since childhood so i try to sing alot but call myself a bad singer bcz i cant hold proper notes with good vocal tones. But i swear i can sing baby dont cry better than Heesung. And many other songs by some other groups like BTS, TXT, Ateez. But i can never sing Exo, Shinee or such older groups even NCT. SM has good vocalists that is why their songs are difficult to cover. Even Seventeen has some impressive songs. Noone is saying that Heeseung dint try his best it is just a statement that people can't cover Exo songs. Bcz they are hell of difficult and very expressive. Even changmin. You know taemin is the one whose vocals are different. Hos voice has natural vibrato and shaky hiss that makes it different. But when such a person sings, it can be easily differentiated between vocal tones and singing ability and styles ofcourse. Vocal tone In Exo is Also highly diverse. If you have listened to them carefully. Chen baekhyun, DO Have so much difference in vocals. But they can sing same lines with proper notes. And their solos are so different from each other. They can cover each other's parts so well. Lets not take away that they are Such good vocalists since the start. How many singers in 4th gen have you seen doing good runs? It is bcz SM always preferred singing while others tend alot towards hiphop/rap heavy songs. That is why they need good singers. Ateez is growing though.maybe they can try different genres too.
