@bobdavis4848 A true One Hit Wonder can't be any of the following:ll, either: 1. The artist had hits in other genres than Top 40, the Pop Charts. Like Rock, many songs weren't released on physical singles but had heavy rotation on Rock stations. 2. The artist had other hits in other countries. For example, some consider Rock Me Amadeus by Falco an OHW. It's not, Falco was huge in Germany and Europe.
@@raydunn8262 I fully agree with all that. But you’ll find a lot of disagreement on youtube. People who host channels, including AI bot type hosts, love using the “one hit wonder” term as part of their clickbait attempts. Even just in the US, Falco was not a one hit wonder, as “Vienna Calling” reached #18. I’ve had many jobs in radio and music retail, I have music all over the house, almost all genres. Many also call songs “one hit wonders,” which makes no sense. Artists might be “one hit wonders.” Songs don’t write songs, artists do.
@@wiliamhong273 The lead singer of the Archies was Ron Dante. Andy Kim and Jeff Barry wrote the song Sugar, Sugar. The song was originally for The Monkees but they turned it down.
I'm a huge fan of Vicki Lawrence and for years I didn't know she sung that one song but I know that now I watched her on Carol Burnett show and Mama's Family and this one hit 🎯 wonder still holds up after these years
He didn't sing in a falsetto, Jeff Barry, who produced the track, felt his natural vocals were too low, and so to attract teen buyers, sped the tape up so Andy would sound teeny-ish.
And the band shown in the video wasn't even them but guys from an agency hired to appear in the video because the label thought the actual guys including tony burrows, were too ugly.
Tony Burrows had four records in the British Top Ten at once, all under different names. Edison Lighthouse's "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)," White Plains' "My Baby Loves Lovin'," the Pipkins' ridiculous "Gimme Dat Ding," and the Brotherhood of Man's "United We Stand," in 1970. He also sang background on many of Elton John's early-'70s albums (especially Madman Across the Water). Levon and Tiny Dancer for example. He sang on over 120 hit songs in the 1970's. 1st Class - Beach Baby, another of his.
Andy Kim was NOT a one-hit wonder! He had several hits that preceded "Rock Me Gently, Including "How'd We Ever Get This Way?" and his cover of the Ronettes' "Baby, I Love You." BTW, it's pronounced "CUH' vin" not "COE' vin." Like a coven of witches. The follow-up to "Moonlight Feels Right," "I Got To Know," reached #36 on the top 40. Player had a second hit with "This Time I'm In It For Love," in early 1978, reaching #10 on the Hot 100 and staying on the charts for four months. Do your homework.
Really spun my mental AM dial back to the 70s! Some random 70s one hit wonders I can think of Black Superman - Johnny Wakelin Chick a boom - Daddy Dewdrop Sausilto Summer night - Diesel Rocky - Austin Roberts Chevy Van - Sammy Johns
This is a music themed collection "1970s One Hit Wonders: You Will LOVE" Featuring songs but for some reason for the whole 10 minutes instead of the music they are featuring they are dicking around with some innocuous, unknown track. They only play a minute section of the song they are talking about. And they want us to pass this along to our music loving friends? and give it a "like" I think not.
Back in the 70s, I became a fan of the movie Billy Jack, having seen it over 10 times back when movies were 50 cents for a double feature. So, One Tin Soldier became one of my favorite songs during this era. Another one of my favorites on this list is The Night The Lights went out in Georgia by Vickie Lawrence.
Dean Friedman Had 2 hits in the uk.Lucky Star and Lydia,so not really a one hit wonder. And no mention of Curved Air - Back Street Love.Their one and only hit in 1971
Lotta facts- so what not enough songs. I thought Neil Diamond did Rock Me Gently. Why are they called " wonders"? Is it because people wonder what happened to them?
TemChilds .. This is so true. Andy Kim , A Canadian was BIG TIME in the 70’s . Baby, I love you, Rock me gently, Sugar Sugar .. Many a dime I put in the Juke Box to listen to Andy Kim .

Ariel, never heard that before. This thing is not very good. But I don't blame you for that. I can say you've done a nice job of resenting facts and one hit wonders. I subscribed. You need that. Got to check out other videos you've made. Happy 4th of july.
Ummm you do know that corporate cookie cutter crap like the Archies was garbage? The Archies were literally picked out because they looked like characters from a comic book series. Musical talent not required. Lip syncing talent a premium. Every slur attached to the Monkees was valid for the Archies (where the Monkees started off as a TV show and became a real band). There were hundreds of corporate groups like that following Beatlemania, just as there was in the 90s following groups like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest called Big Hair where they just copied but didn't have the talent to create
Personally, I truly believe the song Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes by Edison Lighthouse is one of the greatest songs ever written and ever recorded!
Wouldn't it be great if you could hear a bit more of the songs and a bit less of the narrator.
So true.
Too much talking not enough song
Agree
Agreed
Agreed ! Damn near fell asleep !
My husband and I chose Magnet and Steel for our first dance at our wedding reception.
All great hits. Andy Kim's Rock Me Gently had that Neil Diamond sort of vibe to it.
All of these song were.Great and still are great today in year of 2024
Correct Laura.
Fav one hit wonder is "Life is a Rock" by Reunion.
It's fun to see how many lyrics I can remember from that. Gotta gosa gotta sweat a leonosa fender basin night tripper Doris day jack the ripper. Peter Paul so on.....
But the radio rolled me.
Rock me gently was my jam as a kid when me and my buddies would put it on the oldies station every Friday nights in the summer.
Simple times in America, living with my Grandparents in Miami, didn’t realize how good things were.

Oklahoma? Where about?
Wish I still had my old K-Tell records
Player also had This Time I’m In It For Love.
Player had three top 40 hits.
This Time hit #10 the following year.
By all measures, Player is not an One Hit Wonder.
@@raydunn8262 Right, and then "Prisoner Of Your Love," which I liked even better, reached #27.

I think Andy Kim was the lead vocal on the Aechies Sugar Sugar
@@wiliamhong273 The lead singer of the Archies was Ron Dante. Andy Kim and Jeff Barry wrote the song Sugar, Sugar. The song was originally for The Monkees but they turned it down.
True! However, he was a Neil Diamond wanna be which was his down fall.
As I understand it he was primarily a song writer, which can be just as good, if not better.
Name them.
Love One Tin soldier and also when the Nights When Out In Georgia
Player
Baby come back
Lead on the song was Ron Moss

Koe-vin? Uh, Kuh-vin. Thank you, AI.
The memories that these songs bring back...

Ron Moss, the drummer for Player had a role on CBS' The Bold And The Beautiful.
Seasons in the sun. Terry Jacks
We had joy. We had fun. We had a wide variety of frozen entrees at our grocery freezer.

Life is a Rock (But the radio rolled me) by Reunion (1974) should've been mentioned!

Beach Baby by First Class was a favorite of mine. Dont know of anything else they did.
This was another Tony Burrows one hit wonder. Tony had 4 or 5 number 1 songs at the same time under different band names.
At the 9:19 mark, the band player had two big hits. BABY COME BACK reached number one. THIS TIME I'M IN IT FOR LOVE reached number ten.
Also, Andy Kim charted with "Baby, I Love You" (#9) and "Be My Baby" (#17), plus three more songs in the top 40.
How about - Starland Vocal Band with ‘Afternoon Delight’.
Shut up and play more of the music. You cut off the music mid lyric.
I've noticed on your videos not all artist are really one hit wonders
I know Moonlight Feels Right as Afternoon Delight.
Ram Jam...Black Betty
Covered in part one of this series.
Brotherhood Of Man were not a one hit wonder. Their “Save Your Kisses For Me” reached #27. Andy Kim had seven top 40 hits.

Andy Kim wasn't a one hit wonder. He scored with "Be My Baby" in 1970.

I loved "Ariel" back then, but years later could never find it or knew who sang it
I'm 62 and I was in highschool in the mid 70's and I love these songs as we listened to them on the radio.
What about Daniel Boone- Beautiful Sunday? What about Sky Diver?

How about playing a little more of the songs..
Can Americans not read cos they have to have someone explain what's going on in everything
Did Vicki Lawrence (Shultz)perform her song on The Carol Burnett Show?
The Original Caste also put out Mr. Monday too!
Fun Fact: Ronn Moss from Player went on to become a soapie star - mostly known for Ridge in The Bold and the Beautiful

Andy Kim had several hits under different names and he actually stepped away from the limelight to raise a family

The B-side of Ariel is Funny Papers, a breezy jazz lounge tune in that urban jazz-folk style of Michael Franks. I played that more than the A-side.

The Hollies Long Cool Woman
The Hollies had MANY song hits (most in the 60's but some also in the 70's)
