Thanks for the review Paul, could I ask regarding the Center Column can the pole part be removed or shortened? I do allot of low to the ground shots for nightscape photography and that pole length would get in the way.
I bought the Zero Y version since it is Arca-Swiss compatible without any need for an adapter plate. Tripod seems to be well-made, and the bottom leg is not pencil thin as in most travel tripods. All of my L-brackets (RRS, off-brand, and home made) clamp in nicely with no looseness. My only gripe is the center column in that it takes a feat of strength to get mine to raise. I sprayed some silicone lube on the column which seemed to help, but not by much. Also, an o-ring popped out and I have no idea where it came from until I disassemble and take a look. Anyone else have this problem with the center column?
@@PaulFeinberg Mine has the lever release. Its not enough to make me send it back, but it is pretty dang tight. Not sure if I'll lightly try some 600 grit wet sandpaper on the column (unless it wears itself in). But it does seem to be a really well made tripod. My Gitzo Mountaineer with RRS ballhead was getting too cumbersome for times I want to travel light.
I just received the Colman tripod. I have no issues with the lockup on my F38 plates. Only downside is the lack of paining, which really limits usability in portrait mode. At full price, I think the Ulanzi is the better option even though it’s $100 more … but there was some crazy deals on the Coman for the holidays. I was able to pick one up for $145. It’s awfully hard tripod to beat it at that price.
I know right!!! Crazy deals on that Coman for almost the same thing! My f38 plates fit in there but they were a little loose and I was worried about it being secure. The F38 PD plate I had no issues.
Tell me, is it possible to raise or lower the lens up or down on the light G in portrait orientation? Or is a position only parallel to the ground possible? There is no 360 head rotation, like in F38?
There's a black plastic piece that holds the center column in place. Would you say that black piece is interchangeable to allow the Colman to use the triangle center column of the Ulanzi?
If you get the non-F38 quick release plate and just get the arca version then yes. Or Ulanzi sells a F38/Peak Design plate that works with both. amzn.to/45KOOxB
As someone with the Ulanzi Zero Y / F38, I would probably go with the Coman.. The Ulanzi is great, but the Arca plate has a tendency to slip out, resulting in your camera meeting the ground..
Amazing comparison video! Today 01/24 the Coman Light G in the white colorway is $60 off and has a redeemable 20% off coupon. Just purchased the whole thing for $100. I have a Peak Design backpack mount so I'm fine w the ball head. But $100! Watched your video then hit "buy now". Thanks!
Excellent review, just wanted to add that Coman light G has more separated legs when opened, the angles are wider, which means the tripod is more stable. That is why the ulanzi zero is taller when opened.
Yes it comes with a 1/4” screw on adapter so you can remove the ball head section. If you want a video fluid head also look at the Coman Light H tripod in the description. Same tripod with a video fluid head.
@@PaulFeinberg thank you. I have a Sirui fluid head what I may use for this, but it has a 3/8” screw hole. At first I thought It would be sturdy. But with the 1/4” I have doubts about what it will be like.
@@antalbalint shoot maybe it is 3/8”….i forget the size now. I think the bigger one. I don’t have the tripod anymore to check for you. I kept the Ulanzi and sent back the Coman. There is a good deal going on right now with the Coman. You can always buy it and try it out and if you don’t like it return it. Thank goodness for amazing Amazon return policy lol 😂
@@PaulFeinberg I totally agree with you in regards to the flip locks. When I got my Sandmarc Carbon with the twisty knobs, at first I liked it. But over time I realized that it takes so much longer and it's tiresome to turn and twist each segment of the legs.
I’ve been trying to figure out a better tripod than the Peak Design travel tripod, the Ulanzi looks pretty good 👀
For sure is the way to go! Love this thing! If you are in Orlando area hit me up on IG and we can test it out 🤣
Glad you made this video because I was confused what the differences were. I just picked up the Coman light G for $150 and hope it's good enough.
I think it’s good enough! Just no pan. Solid travel tripod and good price

@@The_Gunslinger yes both tripods the center column can be removed and even flipped for lower shots.

@@photog1529 nope…is your center column a lever or a knob? Mine is a lever and I have no issues.

In theory I do believe if you could get that piece from ulanzi then you could do it. I thought of that as well

Looks like a fairly well integrated setup. I feel like we have come a long way for traveller tripods in the last little while.

I really want that ulanzi f38 tripod!
I will have to find a way to get you one. 🤔
The Ulanzi website says the F38 Zero is 15.74 inches. Are you sure 16.7 is right?
Ya but then you have the tripod head

It would be interesting to know if both the columns at full extent were the same. Otherwise an interesting review.
The Coman is slightly taller because the ball head is slightly taller, but I would say pretty comparable. Thanks for watching!
It's strange to me that these tripods are 2 of maybe 4 on the market that actually fit inside a backpack.
