As a speech pathologist of 26+years I was delighted to see this doctors recommendation for speech therapy when someone is experiencing complications of aphasia. The medical marvel of neuroplasicity has humbled me personally and professionally while having the honor of helping many that experience aphasia. Thank you again for sharing this segment ahead of May's better speech and hearing month.

My mother struggled with this after a TBI and my father in law still struggles with it after a major stroke. Both have made incredible progress but aphasia is a totally different beast from dementia. Nothing changed cognitively in either of them...but it's like their ability to communicate is blurred and confused, both in speech and movement.

In the US it is difficult to get diagnosis for such conditions because they are invisible and require observation. Also there is stigmatization for getting a diagnosis as medical practitioners frame their perspective on that they believe that person just wants to get a disability check.

I keep forgetting words while talking especially in my native and 2nd language , i do speak Arabic french and English
I think that this is the main reason i forget words and it has been kinda annoying lately people lose interest talking to me .
The second cause i forget words is that i don't improve my communication skills I'm most of the time calm silent and i only speak when needed .
The 3rd cause , i feel like my brain is so busy thinking about a lots of things simultaneously

These interviewers make light of it like it’s perhaps just temporary memory failure. It’s not. It destroys your confidence for social interaction. Sometimes you can’t read, speak, spell or understand what someone is saying, all at different times, and it can progress from a couple times a day, to numerous times every hour of every day, and it appears to destroy your memory capacity, as well as induce anxiety attacks, and that’s not even a particularly bad case of it I think.

Ran to the central office and we said our bus driver is sick call the ambulance. Someone in central office called 911. It took 30 minutes for the ambulance to get there. When the ambulance came it was paramedic Bart and paramedic Joseph. Bart and Joseph got the stretcher and got him off the bus. They loaded him into the ambulance. When they got to the hospital I was born in. He had to be air lifted. They flew him over to UAB. His bus was still there. I couldn’t ride his bus until January. Mike had to do his job. On Halloween we wished he were here. On thanksgiving we wished he were here. On Christmas we wished he were here. On New Year’s Day he returned home and was well. Ancestry is a clue of food intolerances and allergies that he may not be aware of that effect his well being. They will cause strokes and damage due to the severe migraines. Wishing him well.

I just watched Wire Room "the most recent Bruce Willis film" and his lines were very short and east, it was very sad to watch especially when you figure out what's going on in his life, it wasn't a bad film but Bruce definitely was already declining at the filming of this, this sucks man, he's done so many jobs and I've bet he's known he's declining and he's been doing as many movies as he could before retiring.

Nothing is clear without knowing the cause of the aphasia. Aphasia is a communication issue the cause impacts the cognitive aspects.

i remember when willis refused to do another expendables movie (we now know due to his failing condition) & stallone called him out publicly as "selfish" because willis said he wanted more money for the role. whether that was the actual reason, to fund his care, to leave to his widow & kids, or just not ready to disclose his rela reasons, etc..we dont know, but even if it wasnt about getting sick, stallone had some nerve calling him out about what willis wanted to do with his time. stallone was the selfish one expecting willis to do a movie just because HE, stallone, wanted him to, for more box office appeal. a supposed friend. i lost respect for stallone after that.
money vs friendship. in hollywood, money wins every time.

Starting to think there’s more to the rate of deterioration Bruce endured, especially after the rare disease Celine Dion was diagnosed with, a lot of people getting sick and dying right now From things you don’t see everyday.

There was so much wrong with this interview and how it portrays Aphasia. First, Bruce Willis suffers from Primary Progressive Aphasia. It is a degenerative condition that gets worse and leads to dementia.
The Aphasia that is caused by stokes and brain injuries is completely different. You can improve your communication skills over time. This form of Aphasia is a language disorder and doesn't affect the intelligence of the person. Even though communication can improve, it can't be cured and your brain works differently than it did before. This is what Gabby Giffords and probably John Fetterman have.
For the newscasters to joke that they have trouble talking is highly insulting. My life has changed since my stroke and I have to deal with having to think differently to be able to communicate. I "hear" myself thinking and communicating takes on almost a visual aspect. I have had to learn how to speak in noisy environments that can become overwhelming. I had to learn to read again. I have to do mental exercises to learn how to remember numbers. It's a sucky situation and to have newscasters trivialize it is insulting.

Great actor will be missed in movies. Aphasia is a symptom of something else like was mentioned. Stroke, bleeding, mass, injury. Why are they only giving symptom and not elucidating cause? Did he just have an illness. Did he just get a new safe and effective therapeutic. Seems like not all information being presented for some reason. It’s like saying someone has headache and not mentioning large brain tumor responsible. In short what is his diagnosis?

Simple.. either doctors are still working with Bruce, or
Bruce doesn't want to share his full prognosis/diagnosis yet!
