      @Opinión It's actually a mix of French and Austrian influences believe it or not.
      For example his Kepi is of French origins while his sleave braid is Austrian.
      As a matter of fact the "Austrian Knot" as it was called was actually quite popular at the time among the Germans, Austrians, Canadians, Brittish, etc.
      This uniform you see here at 7:38 is actually an American copy of the French Zouave uniform.

    Excellent video for your volume 3. As the timeline progresses, I do hope that you will include Confederate uniforms that were not just butternut wool. I reenact with the 20th South Carolina (Kershaw's Brigade) which in the summer of 1864 was fully outfitted with a charcoal gray (looks almost black) shell jackets. This charcoal gray was imported thru the blockade from English mills. Thanks for all y'all do! Cheers.

      @Alejandro Alvarez Who would have thought that a small tribe of the Kabyle mountains of Algeria was going to influence the great western nations ? I know that the word "Zouave" was coined by the French because they couldn't pronounce the real name of this Kabyle tribe whose name I unfortunately forgot (yeah .. the French soldiers weren't there down to do ethnology) and the costume is probably the product of the orientalist thought of some French people of the time, but in the end it was mainly France which made its sumptuous power shine once more. May god bless france and the United States and may he watch tenderly over Rochambeau and Georges Washington. It makes me think of the painting "The Taking of Yorktown" by Auguste Couder.

    The Blue And The Gray
    Francis Miles Finch (1827-1907)
    By the flow of the inland river,
    Whence the fleets of iron have fled, Where the blades of the grave-grass quiver,
    Asleep are the ranks of the dead:
    Under the sod and the dew,
    Waiting the judgment-day;
    Under the one, the Blue,
    Under the other, the Gray
    **These in the robings of glory,
    Those in the gloom of defeat,
    All with the battle-blood gory,
    In the dusk of eternity meet:
    Under the sod and the dew,
    Waiting the judgement-day
    Under the laurel, the Blue,
    Under the willow, the Gray.
    From the silence of sorrowful hours
    The desolate mourners go,
    Lovingly laden with flowers
    Alike for the friend and the foe;
    Under the sod and the dew,
    Waiting the judgement-day;
    Under the roses, the Blue,
    Under the lilies, the Gray.
    So with an equal splendor,
    The morning sun-rays fall,
    With a touch impartially tender,
    On the blossoms blooming for all:
    Under the sod and the dew,
    Waiting the judgment-day;
    Broidered with gold, the Blue,
    Mellowed with gold, the Gray.
    So, when the summer calleth,
    On forest and field of grain,
    With an equal murmur falleth
    The cooling drip of the rain:
    Under the sod and the dew,
    Waiting the judgment -day,
    Wet with the rain, the Blue
    Wet with the rain, the Gray.
    Sadly, but not with upbraiding,
    The generous deed was done,
    In the storm of the years that are fading
    No braver battle was won:
    Under the sod adn the dew,
    Waiting the judgment-day;
    Under the blossoms, the Blue,
    Under the garlands, the Gray
    No more shall the war cry sever,
    Or the winding rivers be red;
    They banish our anger forever
    When they laurel the graves of our dead!
    Under the sod and the dew,
    Waiting the judgment-day,
    Love and tears for the Blue,
    Tears and love for the Gray.

    Another minor quibble; the “Confederate Army Commander” is just Robert E. Lee’s uniform. So far as I know, there was no standardized Confederate General’s uniform beyond Brigadier-General, as that was intended to be the highest rank in the Confederate Army. Lee, as it happens, wore a Colonel’s insignia, not a General’s. So that makes its selection as a “Confederate Army Commander” uniform extra misleading :p

    Overall nicely done, but there's a significant error in the impression of a Union general in 1862. He would not have worn the revolver and the saber both on the left side. The revolver holster looks left-handed because it was worn on the right side with the butt forward. It's not actually intended to be worn on the left side.

    the US Army general has brigadier general shoulder boards but his buttons are in groups of three instead of two as a brigadier general would have. also like with volume 1, you have a volunteer cavalry from 1862 armed with a Spencer carbine. Spencer carbines weren't made until late 1863, and most likely wouldn't have been used until 1864. the 5th Michigan Calvary and 2 companies of the 6th Michigan Calvary had Spencer rifles at Gettysburg.

    I was not aware the sharpshooter uniforms were so dark. I thought they were a lighter shade of green. But they look great anyways with the brown leather.

      In 1860 the north was mainly agricultural as well. Just had a lot more industry than the south.

    3:58 I, regrettably must point out a minor error on your Union Army General. The shoulder straps he is wearing indicate he is a Brigadier General. However, the button pattern on the jacket is for a Major General.

      It's not actually a sash, it's a blanket worn by soldiers.

    I read that the Pope Pious lX called in his letters Jefferson David "Mr. President of the CSA", unique case of a recognization in Europe.
    More the CSA generals Longstreet and Beauregards were catholics and Also a lot of southerns, mainly of irish descent.
    After the war, on the other side, catholics were persecuted, Lynched and discriminated. Why?

    I enjoyed the video very much and I don’t want to sound critical. However, I must ask where you came up with the number of 2.75 million soldiers who fought and DIED while wearing these uniforms. I assume you mean the TOTAL number of soldiers who wore the uniforms. The actual number who DIED during the Civil War is estimated to be between 600,000 and 700,000 souls. Your wording can be interpreted to mean that 2.75 million soldiers actually died.
