    Incredible work. I am absolutely so appreciative of you taking time to show the methods and techniques. It makes far more sense than having it spoken about or from reading in a book. Thank you. PS I love that you do not have music. This is an education. Why does everyone need to be entertained all the time.

    I like everything on this channel , looking forward to seeing more in the future. I like period pieces and the work of these masters
    reflect the times in which they lived. I've always been partial to the old masters over modern art . And at this point this channel is one of my favorites for it's subject matter choice of work and execution. Thank you , just scribed , and very much inspired. 🌟

    I call this a "Copy Lite", because it does not delve in deeply and deal with the more profound aspects of Velasquez' skill level and vision.

    hey ODM, i noticed you did a few things like a drawing etc before staritng, is this how velasquez painted in real life
    only because ive found so little on how to actually paint like him, did you have any recommended reading?

    • @olddirtymasters
      @olddirtymasters  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I don’t know how Velazquez worked/thought but there are a few unfinished paintings by him that hint at his process. Nothing beats seeing the paintings in person if you can. Brown and Garrido’s book Technique of Genius is interesting. Also Harold Speed’s book on Oil Painting has great observations on Velazquez.

      It has some sort of clear coating like PVA to protect the linen.

    This looks like if Sergeant did a copy of a Velasquez. Velasquez wasn't an alla prima painter. You are very talented, why doesn't anyone show the laborious layered techniques of the of masters? Doing a copy is supposed to be about getting into the mind of the artist and understanding the decisions they made and the choices of colour come from how the layers work and how light travels through the paint and back.

    • @harryainsworth6923
      @harryainsworth6923 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey, i was under the impression the velasquez in this portion of his career was an alla prima painter? Ie, he painted directly, instead of glazing an underpainting? If not how did he paint this? I ask because I`m looking into doing velasquez copies in the near future and would like to emulate his technique as exactly as possible
