I took my first trip to Anchorge last month from Florida to spot aircraft at Anchorage Intl. I was truly amazed at all the planes parked around Lake Hood. Unfortunately it was still frozen but drove all over in my rental car. I couldnt believe how you can just drive around all the ramps and FBO's. A definate first. Loved the NCA DC-6 and the Alaska Air Museum too!

I was in a Long Ranger II sitting on the ground at Kitsault once back in the '80s when a Goose landed and powered up the ramp onto the apron, the chopper pilot said, "that proves if you put enough power on anything it will fly", how ironic.

Thank you. You are the first person to ask about the Beaver they were out pilot training that’s what they said on Lake Hood Tower.

I probably fueled fully half the planes on Hood and Spenard Lakes, including John Pletcher's Goose.

Given the number of types powered by it makes me wonder how many R985s were manufactured. Just had a look at wikipedia and apparently it was 39485. We all know that wiki often gets things wrong but I reckon that is still an impressive number for a single type.
