As an Englishman, I wish we had someone like him on football panels. The man is clearly great value. We have to put up with cheerleaders always telling us how wonderful the Premiership is, without considering why the national team is so bad.
Best rant iv ever seen. He went out that night and did something that no other tv personality would ever have the balls to do. That panel are priceless, way more down to earth than their snobby rugby counterparts. long may he be on tv
I admire dunphy we need a lot more like him he is definitely not afraid to speak his mind he has absolutely no inhabitions whatsoever I believe he is still a lovely man and a really good person
The Australia-Iran qualifier at the MCG in 1997 still grinds my gears. Venables chose to start Steve Horvat - who was without a club at the time and hadn't kicked a football in anger in some time after being released by Hajduk Split - alongside Socceroos Captain Alex Tobin instead of Tobin's long-time club and country partner Milan Ivanovic. As it happened Horvat and Tobin played with zero cohesion at the back and Iran scored two incredibly soft goals accompanied by non-existent marking.
Trapattoni may still be Ireland's downfall.Dunphy had no issue slagging off Arsène Wenger in front of liam brady but god forbid anyone said a single bad word about Roy Keane and poor ole Eamon has a meltdown..Dunphy also once said that Taoiseach Charles Haughey represented the "real people of Ireland".He heavily criticised probably the best manager Ireland ever had Jack Charlton during his reign as manager. He called Niall Quinn a creep, and accused Rod Liddle of cheating on his wife.
Terry Venables responded by saying "How can a self confessed cocaine user and convicted drink driver lecture me on character"? Ouch.....the truth is always bitter Eamon.
when billo said "invidious position" I thought , woah bill is a smart man but then by the third time he said I was just like , aww he must have learned it off before the broadcast :((
The panel was so good, often far better than whatever match was on. These kinds of debates would be unthinkable now, dispensed with discussions in favour of inoffensive sound bites and pointless stats.
Dunphy was assistant manager and Youth Director at Shamrock Rovers when John Giles was manager and couldn't take it. He'll never manage anyone because he's not able to.
dunphy is honest' he speaks his mind. and were all on here argueing bout him! lol! dont you see?? were all interested in what he has to say! so hes gud at his job! crap' or bullshit' he makes u listen' thats what hes paid to do! lol
Would have loved it if he'd said 'Wheeler dealer' with Harry Redknapp on a discussion panel (we know he gets royally triggered when fans and Press use that phrase in his direction)
Is has to be the best soccer coverage in the world. Where else woud you get pure comedy and drama. Hope we never go to the political correct world of sky and bbc
Terry Venables is one of the biggest crooks, but best PR men in football. His behavior at Portsmouth towards the Gregory family is nothing short of scandalous
@MasterofSpiders To be fair to his time at Rovers, himself and Giles held an idealogy that he felt was ripped apart by some small minded clubs, with a win at all costs style of football. They wanted Rovers to play beautiful stuff, but felt other teams hindered them. Of course, you're entitled not to just roll over against bigger teams, but it's also not nice to see very short sighted attitudes, that exist not only in League of Ireland football, but many clubs abroad, as well.
Venables good points: He got England to the semi final of the European Championships on home ground, beating Holland and Spain on the way. Won the title with Barcelona and got them to a European Cup final the following season. Won the FA Cup with Spurs against Nottingham Forest that was managed by Clough, one of the greats of the game. Players have spoken positively about their experience playing under him and clearly have respect. His bad points: Is a journeyman and mercenary. Didn’t last more than two years in most of his jobs. Failed to qualify for the 98 World Cup with Australia through one game. Courts controversy off the field with mismanagement of money. Financially crippled Portsmouth. Isn’t committed. Didn’t turn up for his first game at Leeds to do a gig for the BBC Holliday programme etc.
@TheLillywhiteArmy well said, i never thought about tht..i remember watching this rant an agreeing..but just thinkn about it maybe this rant put the fear of god in the fa an made them deliver with trap
I am wrong how?Everything I said in my comment happened.Just because Dunphy changed his tune in the last year or so that's supposed to make him more credible in my eyes? The man advocated the captain of Ireland who walked out on his country and attacked his manager(in the media)without settling things like a professional. So the country suffered.Anyway all that is the past. We'll see just how good Trapattoni is.Just for your information I do happen to live in Ireland so yes I have media access.
ha after dunphy got that good comment he made bout venables a few years ago read out he nearly died.. he nearly said birmingham shitty..shit shit i bet he was thinking
As an Englishman, I wish we had someone like him on football panels. The man is clearly great value. We have to put up with cheerleaders always telling us how wonderful the Premiership is, without considering why the national team is so bad.
At least you have Keane now
Absolute gold. RTE Panel will never be the same without Bill, John and Eamon.
Bill was a master of riling them up, an absolute master, just knew exactly how to light the match and let them go.
"Be too late then John... we're buggered." Where else would you hear such a legend.
Bill was the best at stirring the pot 😂😂

Great stuff from Eamon that night.
What a panel! Wonderful analysis and entertainment when compared to the bores we have on football panels on RTE now.
The Australia-Iran qualifier at the MCG in 1997 still grinds my gears.
Rob little did cheat on his wife.
''The savage loves his native shore'' hahahahahaha
Terry Venables responded by saying "How can a self confessed cocaine user and convicted drink driver lecture me on character"? Ouch.....the truth is always bitter Eamon.
Chris Lacey literally nothing too do with football tho is it?
RIP Bill 🙏 he is very badly missed

Little paddy land 😂😂😂😂 Dunphy is a gas man! Poor old Bill too, what a loss!!
Dunphy was assistant manager and Youth Director at Shamrock Rovers when John Giles was manager and couldn't take it. He'll never manage anyone because he's not able to.
Haha! Bill laughing at 2.21.
Dunphy after being calmed down: FECK! ARSE! SUGAR! BUNG!
Hold On! Hold On! Hold On!.... Eamons catchphrase
dunphy is honest' he speaks his mind. and were all on here argueing bout him! lol! dont you see?? were all interested in what he has to say! so hes gud at his job! crap' or bullshit' he makes u listen' thats what hes paid to do! lol

Thank doG we don't have to worry about El Tel anymore.
Great Dunphy exposing that crook El Tel..
1:47 Hitler like fist gesture from Heir Dunphy!
Would have loved it if he'd said 'Wheeler dealer' with Harry Redknapp on a discussion panel (we know he gets royally triggered when fans and Press use that phrase in his direction)
5:32 Who's the punter?😂
Eamon Dunphy recently called Roy Keane a "politician and a bullshitter".
Is has to be the best soccer coverage in the world. Where else woud you get pure comedy and drama. Hope we never go to the political correct world of sky and bbc
A week? That’s being optimistic, he might just make it 10 minutes before he would be escorted by security from the building ;-D
I almost wish Venables had gotten the job; the analysis would have been absolutely priceless!!
"must have been after a libel case" how ironic...
Terry Venables is one of the biggest crooks, but best PR men in football. His behavior at Portsmouth towards the Gregory family is nothing short of scandalous
class

I'm really not here to agrue with anyone.I just see the hypocrisy that is Eamon Dunphy. But I do enjoy his honesty I suppose if nothing else.
When you look at the Venables records you can't really argue. For some reason I thought he had won an awful lot more.
Venables good points: He got England to the semi final of the European Championships on home ground, beating Holland and Spain on the way.
Won the title with Barcelona and got them to a European Cup final the following season.
Won the FA Cup with Spurs against Nottingham Forest that was managed by Clough, one of the greats of the game.

very Tennables! LOL
The smile on Bill 😂😂😂😂 he was just so good.
He was going for the job at the time, he was in an awkward position.
0:48 seconds Giles nearly said very terrible!!!!
6:03 sums up dunphy. The world's gone crazy and he's the only sane one left
Not in Ireland, where there are three popular kinds of football.
@andymacceltic exactly, well said
Alex McCleish got Birmingham and Aston Villa relegated.
sounds like dunphy has something personal against venables
Yeah of course we're in worse shape, that's why we had to lend you billions eh?
ahaha "little paddy-land"...
