I was a member of the RAF 38 Tactical Signals Wing (changed to TCW) 1969-71, we used mainly Series 2a FFR L/Rovers. Seeing the Clansman radios reminded me that I went to the Royal Signals Blandford Camp to see the Clansman trials as they had not entered service then.
@@rustenutsCheers, we used to have a fibreglass whip aerial, which had to be bent over and secured when travelling. We would do JOCOMEX’s (Comms exercise) usually in a country pub car park. After too many sniffs of the barmaids apron we would set off, sometimes forgetting to secure the aerial. The first low bridge we came to Resulted in a somewhat reduced aerial. Happy days.
@@MadFordEngineering No worries at all mate. Will do - a bit side-tracked with other cars at the moment, but will be giving the Series 3 some attention soon!
The 353 was a vhf set. I remember the REME having a land rover non ffr has their own personal run a round, I was told to fit a 352 radio clip in, into it, didnt go down well, I am old enough to remember C13 HP and C45, C11/R210.
Slr finally left service in 1992, only WIMIK I used with ir headlights was the R's, with alloys, for that bling look. The E's we had were all FFR's with so much coms equipment they weighed about 5 ton's.
@@rustenuts Initially the SLR, L85 A1 was just junk, but you cant really blame Enfield, they were being shit canned by the government and it had to be built on the cheap. The TMH was so lose in the body of the weapon it sounded like a babies rattle. The bayonet seemed to snap at the slightest pressure. The A2, a completely different beast, fantastic weapon. The SLR will always be the love of my life, think of Private Pile with his M14 lol
AHH Spent a few excercizes crammed in the back of a lightweight.with C42 radio set (before clansman) trying to get needle swing whilst bouncing across the Hulu was fun ..😂😂 I wasn't a scaly.. just a guardsman 😅
