Dream Volunteers| School Construction in Guatemala

- Last year, after 15+ years of Dream Volunteers student volunteers patching together a school site, the government in Guatemala finally took notice of the need to build a new elementary school in the village of Vuelta Grande. This was exciting news for the community with whom we've been partnering for so long. While the youth will still need our scholarships to attend secondary school in nearby Antigua, the need for our visiting volunteer groups to build classrooms is gone. As a result, we were approached by a neighboring community, El Astillero, about collaborating with them on school construction.
While Vuelta Grande had an inadequate school site that we helped make adequate, El Astillero has none at all. Its young children either walk 3 hours per day to the closest primary school or don't attend at all. To address that challenge, the community of El Astillero and Dream Volunteers students from Guatemala and the US have come together to build an elementary school.
