Chillstep is meant to be listened to while being in a state of concentration or a meditative one, preferably using high quality headphones which are tuned mostly neutral (Harman target) with a slight bias towards bass. This music is supposed to relax your mind and bring down stress level, it's great for meditation, studying, and for dealing with psychological issues like anxiety. Though I suppose if you dislike the sound of a piano combined with a soft beat, this music could have the opposite of its intented effect on you. I'm not saying that you're "wrong" for disliking this music, just wanted to explain why I like it. For me, listening to this music is therapeutic.
