Same. There are press photos of the plane in the water. I assumed if the plane hit the carrier and landed in the water close enough to get pictures it's right next to the carrier or within the area of the strike group. I mean unless they think it is now drifting away underwater then I guess all bets are off. Do those planes ping when they hit the water? Surely the sub in the strike group could track it that way?

Actually, it's a common misconception that losing an aircraft and/or ejecting ruins your flight career. It does not. Only if you were found to be unsafe and/or incompetent is that a guaranteed (...well, sometimes not even then) end to your flight career.
The United States government spends literally millions of dollars on schooling and training for pilots. They generally don't want to flush that resource down the drain because it's not guaranteed you'll get another quality pilot in their place.
There's also the issue that it could be that it was entirely not the pilot's fault and it was something to do with the tailhook, arresting wire or ground crew. We won't know until an investigation is done.

Yeah, the guy who maintains the arresting gear, perhaps the carrier captain, but everything I've heard says the pilot wasn't at fault. The wire broke, or a tire burst or something like that. CVN-70 is the only CVN certified for the F-35C currently, and they're still working out the bugs. landing a plane on a ship isn't a simple thing, and doing it with a new plane creates further problems yet. I'm wondering what went so very wrong that sailors on the deck were injured. That means either those sailors were standing some place they shouldn't have been (unlikely, a carrier deck is a very highly regulated place), or something really bad happened, like an arresting wire broke and hit a bunch of deck crew. Either way it doesn't' appear to have been the pilot at fault, unless the pilot knowingly ignored a wave off signal, which isn't something that really happens in naval aviation. (Possible though.)

if i put on my conspiracy hat id say yeah the west is intentionally pushing their planes off the deck of carriers as a trojan horse lol.... china wont bite lol if its an effort for china to retreive it its even more of an effort for the US to sail all the way with the equipment if its even possible....
the west has now handed 2 chances both for russia and china to get their hands on this plane if they really wanted to.... is it intentional???? or is the west incompetant??? its peace time FFS!!!! the US incident is far more embarrassing as its their plane and its not the first time the US has bungled on Chinas doorstep???!
