I saw Al at the Blue Note in Manhattan in the early 90s, almost by accident - walking by and saw he’s playing -“OMFG we have to go!!!”... and did! 💥👍😃😱❤️
He is the true octopus of wildly crazy cords and progressions. How he keeps it all together is beyond me. Among the greatest of Al time!👍🍿🍿

In the early 90’s when I started to get into really practicing guitar and learning how to play fast, this dude was my inspiration for technique along with many others! I even bought his signature Dimarzio pickup (neck position) for one of my Fender HM Strats, in that same guitar I bought th signature Steve Morse (bridge) pickup, let me tell ya that guitar was a beast after that! I had friends who were signed to guitar companies that played that guitar and they could not believe how great the Al Di Meola neck pickup was, not only did it sound great, but everyone mentioned when you played fast (picking hand) it actually made you sound better! I had one friend mention it almost felt like cheating haha! Also the pickup was really well made and looked great. It was black with gold pole pieces. Damn I miss that guitar!

Well let's see I think I have seen Al at least 25 times over the years some of the years 4 to 6 times a year later on once a year but through all of those years he became more efficient more in control and yet he remained happy it seemed to me and more and more effortless and as a guitarist I found that inspiring. I have talked to him a few times especially at a guitar clinic before he played at Sarasota. I asked him if he ever thought about playing with Larry Carlton and he said are you his producer and of I said no just thinking about what that might sound like and being Al he just smiled and I was left with my Dreams..........

I love your playing Al, it's a long story but my mom found your album Casino in a college dorm room that she was working cleaning at and gave it to me. It changed the whole way I played, I played that album over and over and learned most everything on it as best as I could do but you were a SUPER influence on my playing thanks brother. Your still a monster and I would like to hear you playing the LesPaul again as I went to your concert at the Virginia Beach Pavilion back in 1981-2 and still have the tickets stubs ahhah. I think Simon Phillipps was your drummer and he is playing with Toto now monster drummer as well. All of these shredding players have no fucking idea what real style is, playing from the heart.

I hv tried a few e-nylon acoustic guitars, the expensive high end ones hv a perfect intonation with high quality wood, plus a good condenser pickup n strings will get u a beautiful tone...it makes playin so much easier n less stressful compare to the low end ones..i was surprised i be able to do fingering on a 7k guitar that i couldn't do properly on a 2k guitar.
