Thank you very much for this excellent introduction of Silkypix DS Pro 10. It gives a nice and accessible overview to start with the application. So far, I am using ACDSee Photo Studio Ulimate for years now. I tried DS Pro 10 "by accident" after I installed the limited version that comes with my Pentax DSLR. I immediatly noted that the default RAW rendition looked better on DS Pro 10 than ACDSee... and did not hesitate to buy a license to the promotional price of 9900 JPN :) I am now glad to have found your channel to get accustomed with the software :)

Thanks for feedback. ADsee has its benefits I have heard. But when it comes to good colours without too much of editing, Silkypix is Formidable.
Also, I didn't know that Silkypix created the Pentax version too. I am only aware Fujifilm, Nikon and Panasonic versions.
Now, let me provide you with some important information to know more about Silkypix Developer Studio Pro 10.

Excellent information. I started yesterday to give a good look at switching to SilkyPix Pro 10 and viewed several of your videos they were all great but this video really moved me along in my understanding of its capabilities. You do a great job of sharing your knowledge.

    • @Light_Camera_Story

Thanks so much. Silkypix is really underrated. I understand why. They don't do marketing in English or Western world that much, not that popular in TH-cam photography community.
Also, they don't pay affiliate commission.
Means, I did all the work because, I think it is as capable as C1 and Lr.
Have you read my article on Silkypix? It is almost a user manual. Also, the video on Partial Correction Tool video?
      Thanks again.

@@Light_Camera_Story I read your article last night and it was excellent. I have going over the SilkyPix Pro 10 manual too and your article helped a lot. I am a long time user of DxO Optics Pro and then Photo Lab but I think that what I have seen from SilkyPix Pro 10 trail is that it gets me just as good a photo (better in color) as I do from PhotoLab. I especially like the absence of a data management tool and that the product is geared on development of the photo only. In short tests I have been well pleased with the way I can send files over to Affinity Photo and Nik Collection apps for further processing. I do a lot of finishing work in Affinity Photo and I have found in short test of the local corrections that they will let me get more done before sending it over to other apps for any finishing touches I might want to apply. I do think it is a great piece of software an unless I run into a problem that I haven't encountered yet I'll be buying it in the next week or two. You are absolutely right about the shortage of learning resources available on TH-cam for SilkyPix. SilkyPix has started to put up a few of their own but right now you are the best source for information on TH-cam. I am glad you took the time to make all the videos. Keep up the good work. You are probably helping people who watch but you never hear from. Peace.

PROBLEM: When I start Silkypix no control palettes are in view. The only controls visible are in the top ribbon showing File(F) Edit(E) Tools(T) VIew(V) Parameters(P) Development(D) Settings(S) Help(H).................. QUESTION: Which of these buttons do I use to expose the control palettes ? What steps do I take? Will much appreciate your advice.

All good. Honestly, I recommend uninstall a reinstall. Which version are you using?
Also, initialize button should be available on the top .
I think, in setting or view tab.
      Good luck.

Hi, so which method in general do you recommend : 1 - to reduce highlight and leave shadows untouched, 2 - to brighten shadows and leave highlight untouched? Highlight/shadow or different HDR variants? I consider this software (Pro 10) for Pentax/Panasonic camera. SE8 version is free but only for Panasonic cameras and lack some of Pro version features. Do you recommend for instance vs DXO Photo Lab 4 Elite and other? In many cases shadow/highlight recovery would be a very important feature for me. I also wonder whether due to Japanese origin the software deals with Japanese cameras even better than with other softwares. Greetings. PS Very good tutorial by the way.

    • @Light_Camera_Story
      @Light_Camera_Story  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Aleksander, thank you for you complement.
1️⃣ Now first of all, it is important to know that, you should never reduce too much highlights or brighten the shadows. It will effect the global contrast, In any software.
1️⃣For example, too much Highlights reduction will turn the beautiful bright white in to Grey.
      So, that in mind,
1️⃣For 1, Use Color Burn HDR. For Strong HL reduction. For soft HL reduction, Use, just Color Burn.
1️⃣For 2. Dodge HDR for strong shadow brightness . Just Dodge for normal shadow brightness.
1️⃣Note, Silkypix has something that no other software has, if you do Strong HL reduction, usually you will loose some colour and punch.
You can go to the HL controller. And Boost the Lightness. And move the slider to saturation 😉
      watch the video below.
      th-cam.com/video/wV0NFbEK5ao/w-d-xo.html
1️⃣DXO photolab 4 is great of course. But it doesn't support fuji if you want to buy one in future. Also have support issue with pentax.
Which is a shame because I love Fuji and pentax. For a 200euro software, i expect it to support everything.
1️⃣Also, Silkypix Natively Support Panasonic and Fuji. And of course all other Japanese cameras. Which is excellent. Means, you will have excellent colour and Sharpening.
1️⃣ Also, with silkypix, you can edit underwater photos, you can convert scanned film negatives, they have independent tool for portrait (DXO and Capture One does not),
      th-cam.com/video/BO4SuZTDOXE/w-d-xo.html
they have independent tool for Black and white images.
1️⃣I also recommend that you watch my partial correction tool video, th-cam.com/video/65B7ZCj3nI4/w-d-xo.html
1️⃣Personally, I highly recommend you to use silkypix. It is the only software in the world that get all the updates before any one else. For free.
1️⃣Finally, for the written version of Silkypix Developer Studio Pro 10 Tutorials,
      lestreasurehunters.com/2020/10/04/silkypix-developer-studio-pro-10-review/
Email me if you have any other questions. I can send you screen shots or write you answers personally.
      Happy Editing.
      Greetings from Reunion Island.

@@Light_Camera_Story Thank you for a very detailed answer. I have to watch your videos carefully to be sure it is clear for me. So based on what you have written, it seens that Color Burn/Dodge HDR options have stronger effect..but I have to check if they affect colours. What about the case if I would like to use Color Burn/ Dodge to both brighten shadows and reduce highlights. When I click any of them, I cannot do both corrections. Hence then I should highlight/shadow slider? I do not have Fuji cameras, have plenty of photos taken by Pentax cameras and some by Panasonic ones. Now SilkyPix for Panasonic is not available. SilkyPix also prepared software for Pentax - SILKYPIX Developer Studio 3.0 for PENTAX. Greetings.

    • @Light_Camera_Story
      @Light_Camera_Story  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the compliment.
Well, Color Burn, Dodge, Color Burn/Dodge are the original tool of Silkypix Developer Studio Pro 10.
1️⃣And their HDR verities are the improved new addition to the software. I believe since version 4 or 5. I do not understand why they kept the old tools?
But! It is a Japanese philosophy, they never throw away something useful. Hence you are not obliged to use every tools. You can start with one and if working. Then use this
Think about photoshop. Theu have 10 different tools and ways to do one job.
      So,
1️⃣ If you have a good and well exposed photo, use just Color Burn /Dodge. But if you needed to do some big, use their HDR varieties
1️⃣ They have added Shadow and Highlight sliders because a lot of people didn't understand well the previous tools.
1️⃣ I personally for example, use Colour Burn /CB HDR to reduce Highlight. And then use shadow slider is necessary.
1️⃣ 90% of the time though, I use Curves and Exposure . I practically ignore everything else. I am old school and nothing beats Curves. Nothing. Trust me. Watch my Curves video fromnthe playlist.
1️⃣ I personally recommend you to get the full pro version. You pay once. And you use it for everything and forever.
1️⃣ Please Don't stop asking me questions. Happy to help.

@@Light_Camera_Story Thank your for comprehensive answer. I have checked for Panasonic Pro 10 version but now it is impossible to buy itd. I played for a while with these options you have mentioned above and was very suprised how well I could reduce highlight and bright shadows even based on old 16M Panasonic GX80 camera. I menaged to enhance shadows really well. Of course as alyways, one has to find a compromiose. I have to check curves, too. HDR versions of Color Burn /Dodge sliders. Since you know DXO, do you recommend to stick to SP Pro 10 only? Alek
