Every time I mess up it comes back to not cooking my own meals! Finally learned that after way too long and knowing much better. But alas I’ve been happy with my last 5 months of effort. Full tummy while losing weight :)

Amen to keeping it simple! That is the name of my TH-cam channel because it is the way our family of 4 has been able to sustain this way of eating for 14 years. The Instant pot, simple starches, fruits, vegetables, a clean environment- absolutely. I agree it is hard at first, but it really is so simple and so easy once you get used to a new routine. Thank you for all you do to spread this message!

I have fallen into all of those traps, several times! My hardest issue is that we are a family of five, I am the only one who care about what I est, and the potatoe chips, crackers, goodies and chocolate is right there in front of my nose, and I cannot resist... and quite often, i feel guilty and eat very restrictively in response to my "failure" for a while, then feel kind of "lacking" in calories and binge eat crap again😮. Thank you for motivating me to start again😅

I get so frustrated with the advice of getting rid of unhealthily stuff because I’m surrounded all the time by trigger foods at home and at work. I get a little frustrated because if this is the only way to deal with temptation is to not have access to crap food then the rest of us who have normal lives are screwed. I am at work for 9 hours a day, I am a teacher and there is food everywhere and I mean everywhere all day that tempts me. And at home I have a kid and he eats nut butters and crackers which trigger me every time I fix his lunch.

Thanks for the good tips, I come from a family of twigs so we never thought about weight loss but when I stopped meat had a hard time feeling full. The recipes you guys make are just so practical and delicious, great for everyday life, not so complicated, you're right just keep the chips, etc out of the house, my blood pressure went way down when I stopped salt and animal products.

I love, love, love the tip of not trying to recreate your old recipes, great advice!
I personally found when I first went vegan I spent a lot of money purchasing crazy one time use items for that reason of recreating.
Also it almost made me give up, this of course was not on the sos. I think this is true for SOS as well, keep it simple and play with
the idea of recreating once your stable, and then try to have a little switch up from time to time.
The easier the recipe, the more common the ingredients, the easier it is to achieve your goals.

@@HornyKoala Also not just mock meat. I'm talking about Xanthan gum, tapioca starch, almond flour ect. All of these things to make complex recipes, it was overwhelming to say the least and not the least bit necessary. Once I just started sticking with minimal meal making it was easier, then I gradually branched out. I'm still not 100% sos, but I definitely apply core fundamentals most of the time. I live with others, and it's not always easy meal making, but I'm not trying to be perfect just better :)

Just had a week travelling in the Balkans (Central Europe). Knew eating would be tough but decided the cultural experience would be worth it & told myself not to overthink things. Could I ? No ! Every meal I viewed in terms of WFPB & felt unhappy. Of course after each meal I felt bodily uncomfortable but I am now really craving broccoli & potatoes and I know I will be straight back on track when I get home.

"I'm here to live well and die quickly." Yes! Someone was trying to convince me I was going to die young because of my diet, and my response was I feel so much better now, so I if I die younger, while feeling better along the way I'll take it!
And I agree about not dwelling on the details, but I will say things like the daily dozen or gbombs did help me when I first switched over and didn't know what to eat, this helped me to eat enough food. But now I don't even think of it because I'm just naturally eating all those things all the time anyway. No need to check off a list! (Although this HCNC does love to check things off a list😆)

It is so frustrating when people start to argue about these things. We know we are right. But, it’s also very hard for some people because life can be hard. I’m not sure how I’m still doing it 3 years later because mostly in my life I’ve been bad on following through. But I found out 80% compliant is enough for me. Which is what McDougall always said! Most of my food is Instant Pot healthiest food. (And my brother just sent me a Breville for my new place!) Sometimes I eat some higher calorie vegan thing. I don’t have a fit about it. I just mostly don’t keep it in the house. 😊

I wish everything wasn't about weight loss. It would be nice if it was simply about health. About being as healthy as possible. I have an incurable cancer which I've been fighting for 4 years now. I passed my use by date a year ago. I know I'm still here because I eat a healthy plant based diet. It never has to be complicated, unless you want it to be. I love cooking and creating new recipes for myself and so I often complicate things 😁 but that's on me! I just discovered you today and subscribed. Looking forward to trying your savory oatmeal and other recipes. I've been eating savory oatmeal for over a year now but never put lentils in it. It's the best!
