    White/red, black/chartreuse, and bronze (yozuri hydro pencil) are my top 3

    It is interesting how a top water bait has a bunch of painted detail above the water line. Just evidence lure makers aren’t just attracting fish. Considering inshore top water fishing is mostly done in low light, its silhouette more than anything.

      So true, I have a big pegboard of hundreds of "collector" lures that will never see water. When making lures, I sometimes spend hours with details and perfect epoxy coats when a simple shot of white with a rattle can would catch just as many fish - but they sure look purdy. Whether in Brazil or Colombia, the first topwater color any of the guides reaches for is bone.

      @@DanTheFireman I believe the rattles help also but size matters friends lol.

      @@DanTheFireman It seems that color is the universal color around the world. Whether in freshwater, saltwater, one continent or another, something is bound to smack it. Kind of like spoon lures (gold & silver)!

    Great information. Here at the coast of Texas in Galveston where the waters are murky, the Black and Chartreuse, Pink and White MirroLures.

    Chrome to get that flash but bone is by far my #1 choice.

    I really like the bone silver super spook. I haven’t tried the chugging spook jr but I’m curious if it would be of any benefit in saltwater inshore fishing. It’s got a slightly cupped mouth so it makes a bit more commotion and walks better

    You always see "light color for sunny days and dark colors for overcast days" which seems opposite in my feeble brain. Wouldn't a dark color against a light background or a light color against a dark background be more visible?

    • @beaulaird6693
      @beaulaird6693 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The idea is that when it's dark they're just targeting the silhouette, so dark against whatever light is above provides a better contrast. If it's pitch black maybe you're sol. But in well lit conditions they can see the color and detail better

    Hi Tony. I usually get to fish (on freshwater) on weekends and that too during evening. So I wanted to know whether these lures work in night or dark conditions. Has there been a video done from you already on fishing in the dark with top lure could you share a link.

  • @HeadFirstFishing
    @HeadFirstFishing 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good video. Natural colors are usually best but color in general is often overstressed. The fish are looking for size, shape, movement, and noise.

    Trying to recall Tony what you have said previously about using flouro or mono leaders when working topwater. One floats, right? So that's the one you should use when working topwater lures...?

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're just using the mono/fluoro as a leader, then you can use either one for topwater plugs. Here's a link to see the experiment with the sink rate of mono vs. fluoro: www.saltstrong.com/articles/fluorocarbon-monofilament-sink-float-test/

    Unable to understand how color works with fish looking up and only seeing a shadow or silhouette. And the baits are moving

    Never bought in to the whole “whatever lure you’re confident with” theory. I’ve debunked it repeatedly over the years.
    Example: I was barely catching fish one day with my most confident lure. So, I decided to try a different lure that I didn’t have very much confidence in- of the same color.
    It kicked my confidence lure’s teeth in. Caught 7 fish to confidence’s 1.
    This has also happened by just switching up colors on different lures too.
