Filter is controlled by key velocity, it is not very approached as it is played live and is difficult to apply the right pressure for close/open filter.
Gear:
Upper: Emu EMAX II HD (includes a FX sampled with my voice at the beginning)
Mid: Roland JP8000
Low: Kurzweil PC1x
Backtrack recorded in Pro Tools. Just the drums and some fx.

Probably my all time favourite song .. Congratulations for even attempting to play this - Wow - watching DX5 play this, shows just how it hard it is to play, and how precise the Violator version was. The atmosphere they created on the original takes this song to another level. Thanks DX5 for reminding how great this song is, and how exceptional the original was.
One my all time favorite bands. Listen to them on the regular. This is actually my favorite Depeche Mode song.
this is nuts... a couple of slips but this is crazy how you can play two different sound melodies individually at the same time ... if that made any sense... amazing!

It is always a pleasure to revisit your older videos. This one really captured the essence of Halo. Looks like a challenging one to play.
Definitely one of the strongest tracks from "Violator". Much better than "Policy of Truth". Should've been a hit!

Really congratulations man!! You took the time to get all sound and harmonies all by yourself. Just a little thing: There is just one chord in the Mirage strings, the last one wich closes the phrase with a fast and trebble arpeggio on the original, and creates the tension it is V grade major mode not minor. Great and congratulations again !

Agree mate. Yes, the Emax has up to 8 outputs (or a main pair and three subs in the Stereo Emax II). I am waiting for a new external fx processor, so I will be able to apply the desired fx for getting some room in the sound. BTW, nice app you developed. Congrats :)

Halo's most power is in sound engineering, whlie music itself is very simple, if not primitive, that is why it is so hard to reproduce effectively.

@ChildIncomplete Difficult to answer. Not sure, technically I would say "Behind the Wheel" due to syncopated notes or "New Life". But thinking about the overall sound, maybe "Fly on the Windscreen"

You must be crazy to play the filter bass by hand all along but at least I could encounter with that Emax filter and I think it is the one they used in this track ...
As you started the sampled loop from the start of the track the filt bass on it made a heaven in my mind - thank ya!
Other thing: (just to be a geek) Is the Emax have only 2 outputs? Because if has more than that, then the lead u play (the warm fat one) along should have a nice delay on it to make the magic happen huh?
