I wonder if Mozart - in his wildest dreams - could have foreseen his work being performed to perfection like this. "Thank you for the music". A cornucopia of delight !
Those people who disliked this heavenly voice, surely they are mad or know nothing about music. There will be no ANOTHER Madam Auger within a hundred million years to come, I strongly believe it. I adore Ms. Auger. If it was possible to carry her shoes on my head. 🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹Her voice brings tears to my eyes.
Sometimes you just have to be grateful that such moments are captured for posterity. There are so many things that can go wrong in live performance, particularly when filmed. It all worked beautifully here. Thanks for sharing.
R.I.P Arleen Auger - Sie sind viel zu früh von uns gegangen...........! you were an angel even already in your lifetime... @Gautum Banerjee: you speak out of my heart if I may say so - Thank you so much!

I’ve listened to others who butcher the phrasing...but this is perfection! I hope people understand the athleticism singing like this takes. She’s my new hero! 😆
This is indeed a marvellous version. My other favourite rendition is by the gloriously gifted Anna Moffo, from a 1958 Mozart recital album--and here on youtube!
Bernstein died only months after this performance (Oct. 1990) and Auger was dead less than 3 years after. Such amazing musicians the quality of which is sorely missed. (Auger was an early teacher of Renee Fleming.)
Her singing is very polite deliberate and measured all of the time and consequently everything sounds the same. She would never dare lapse into abandon of any kind. She was likely very disciplined and refined to a fault.
I’m fascinated by this style. She’s choosing not to have vibrato all the time, just on the sustained notes. It does confer some advantages and is pretty in its simplicity; however, it’s a matter of taste and I slightly prefer to hear this sung with fuller timbre and consistent vibrancy.
No screeching, screaming, perfection with every note, keeping the same level of consistency amazing. Never forgotten.....👌

We are blessed to be able to hear this voice and artistry. One in a million.
Goddess is singing...Heavenly smile even at difficult and complex notes...My deepest respect for her.

So relaxed...lovely woman....RIP🙏
We miss your beautiful voice...and personality...❤
No words. Just sheer perfection. Mozart. Bernstein. Auger. Sheer perfection

Utterly breath taking. She makes it look sooooo easy and the sound is just exquisite :)

The woodwinds converse with Ms. Auger's voice in wonderful ways.
I listen to this once every week. Three masters at work. Timeless.
Definitely what I need these days.
What an artist. Hard to believe she left us only three years later.
And Leonard Bernstein died 6 months after this concert, in october 1990.
Musica di una bellezza assoluta. Direzione sublime, perfetta. Arleen meravigliosa e ineguagliabile. Grazie ❤
So rare. That musicians get this level of Gratefulness for any other musician's Art.
Soprano and Orchestra match Perfectly. Incredible.
The magic of her voice! Love her forever!
Arleen was such a beautiful person. God rest her soul.
We miss her very much. Such a heavenly singer.
This was absolutely sublime. May she rest in peace. DA

If you feel this way then you should listen to Lucia Popp with Kubelik from 1981. Cause she is even better.

No joke! She had lungs of steel, and knew how to use them!!

What a stunning voice! Perfection!
Sublime ! La perfection .
Such a beautiful voice just made to sing Mozarts beautiful music RIP lovely lady🎉😢
Met her personally: most modest in spite of het performances for huge audiences which were nothing short than ..... divine!
The ethereal voice of Arleen Auger, with the conducting of Leonard Bernstein, would send Mozart to heavenly bliss, if he weren't already there!!
Loved von Stade satisfied smile at the end

they are up... about 445 in a..... so sharp! and she still handles it like a boss!
Grandios! Mozart hätte sie geliebt und verehrt.

Very beautiful sung by this soprano. 👏💐

Sublime. Divino.
I don't know if better version will ever come...

bernstein should know better - Andante, 6/8 is not a SLOW tempo. Ms. Auger can barely do this aria because of the 'conductor's' inadequacy.
Not really my cup of tea. Nice voice but doesn’t move me personally. Thanks for posting though
If this fails to move you, see your Doctor... or maybe your mortician.
