I knew Xen personally, since 2018.. I wasn't close to him by any means but occasionally spoke to him and saw A LOT of drama he involved himself in one way or another and a lot of people came forward to me about him being a total freak behind the scenes.. He was openly leeching onto bigger creators than him to grow his own numbers and brag about that in teamspeak to everyone he talked to that isn't a creator (yes we still used teamspeak up until 2021-2022 for playing Minecraft). He would always try to cause problems towards creators he doesn't like, black and asian commonly as I observed, he would tell other creators he made connections with to cut off those black and asian creators who did nothing wrong but have a VERY minor conflict with him (such as killing him in a Minecraft event for example) and those creators who trust him would cut off that person no questions asked, time after time.. I asked him once as a muslim and somebody who grew up in a strongly muslim culture about how he practices religion in the US, his answers didn't add up and it seemed like he didn't know what he was talking about, when I pressed him harder he started to completely avoid me he was also openly anti-LGBT behind the scenes and would use all sorts of slurs you can imagine and he was very much straight (his own words) but would claim otherwise on camera and twitter, he said he went by they/he and made fun of people who go by they/them a week later.. all around terrilbe, awful human.. I haven't continued that lie since I was 13, maybe 14. I still feel so guilty when I think about it. I see people from my middle school around my college campus sometimes, and though I want to reconnect with them, I'm worried they'll remember my past lie and bring it up in front of our newer peers, exposing me as a liar. It was a dumb thing to lie about, but I was a scared 12 year old. Again, though I haven't continued that lie in 5 years, I still feel so stuck when I remember it. I don't know what to do. Even when these situations are based off teenagers being stupid and trying nonsense things to 'fit in'/'stand out', it perpetuates the same unfortunate consequences of co-opting movements that you aren't actually struggling from. It doesn't have to be nefarious or intentional to have a negative effect on black creators finding success.
This is some of the funniest shit I've ever heard, thank you american race politics, politically illiterate minecraft kids and the bedwars devs for making this possible
On the internet it is for some fucking reason. From most of the examples I've seen its because they romanticize the essence of blackness. From behaviors, culture, and outside of racism alot of people see black people as confident and captivating people. Some people just like doin shit too.
Every couple years there's a new Rachel Dolezal. I feel like it's just a very extreme manifestation of "white guilt" from people who are unable to actually process or take inventory of their anxieties and thoughts about race. With this case though and the added Islam stuff I think this mf was also just being incredibly cynical and thought it would make him more popular as he's probably a very insecure white American from the Midwest.
Lying about your race is insane cause obviously people are going to find out? Like did he genuinely think he could keep it up forever? Lying about your age is one thing cause everyone has lied about their age at some point, but being an entirely different race and pretending you know the struggles of said race? Insane behavior omg? I’ve lied about some dumb shit as a teen but my god he literally fabricated an entire different person????
Considering that this is a kid I really hope people will allow him to still live out his life normally. Someone that young still can better themselves, this is in now way similar to the EDP situation. He's an idiot, but this seems like a good life lesson for him to better himself and stay offline for the rest of his life and not make up any more big lies
People have created online personas since the start of "online".. since the start of youtube. Even some of the OGs did that. This is nothing new. Not to mention, he's a 15 year old kid. If pretending to be a minority gets you fame, then maybe the problem is everyone else.
I'd never heard of this guy in my life, but if he was 15 in 2020, that means he's likely only just turned 18. If he stopped making content a year ago, I can only assume he was 17 when he stopped. I don't really think it's necessary to do a callout on some kid doing something dumb, even if it is obviously kind of a wild and ridiculous thing to do
he’s not some famous youtuber either - he’s just some teenager who has no impact on anything other than the niche friend group on discord he sent selfies to.

I remember lying about my gender on videogames when I was younger. I was 12 and I'd tell people I was a guy and not a woman, and dress my avatar up as a guy because I didn't want to get sexualised or harassed. But I feel like that's a pretty common thing (or so I've heard). Race is a crazy thing to lie about, and especially if you're a content creator you can't just be lying to your audience. People are always gonna catch on eventually y'know?
I mean.. if he just denied it and told them to fuck off, it would likely be an even BIGGER story. At least we can talk about it while he's off the internet... imagine the toxicity if he tried to pull a miniladd and continue going? There was no winning situation as soon as someone asked him to prove he was black by... just turning on his camera.
It's a dumb thing to do, but i do think it tells a story of online culture caring about race too much. Everyone on the internet talks about this like the kid was just crazy, but there's a lot of people obsessed with black culture online. After you hear "black men are kings" or "white people shit" in a negative connotation enough times, it starts to feel demeaning even if it's subconscious. It's a social issue and i think that america's endless hold on race and politics around race are harming our developing people by how black people are portrayed. If this weren't real i don't think this lying would even cross this kid's mind. i didn't grow up around white people, and i got so much shit for being white myself i became self hating when i was that age. I feel like the extremely harsh response to this might be ignoring this possibility. I don't think the kid fully understood what he was doing
You should study also the non-whites that celebrate Easter, Happy new years, and Halloween, then! They're all European celebrations, apart of White culture! Reminds me of when I joined discord. A couple of 15 year olds would make up a lies about themselves and keep having to build lies around their persona. Their story would change sometimes depending on who they spoke with. After some time they couldn't keep up with all their lies and would leave permanently. We even had two people fake their deaths, and it was a whole online community mourning for them.
As a Muslim and a person of color ( not black) I literally got stalked to my house because of that.. why lie about that?? I swear facing racism and discrimination isn’t fun.. it’s just scary and makes me anxious
Because in the real world you deal with adults and old people that are still in their racist ways, while online, kids, teens, and young adults are MUCH more culturally aware, sensitive, and accepting. For friend groups online, being Muslim is just a weird little quirk that makes you unique... and that's about it. Can you play the game well? Then who cares. I think the reward for pretending to be a different race is much higher online, whereas there's practically no benefit to it in the real world, just risk.
i was his twitch mod for a year and was a big fan of him for about 3 years. shocked me so hard when i found out.. i spent hundreds of dollars on gifted subs, merch, lunar capes, etc. i regret it so much. i remember when i made a (kinda stupid but not bad) joke about my gay friend (who was okay with it and laughed about it) and he ended up demodding me on my birthday. its very weird he would do what he did but it just proves you cant believe everything you see on the internet.
dude is definitely a compulsive liar, doesn't for a second excuse any of what he did but i hope he seeks professional help.
I asked him once as a muslim and somebody who grew up in a strongly muslim culture about how he practices religion in the US, his answers didn't add up and it seemed like he didn't know what he was talking about, when I pressed him harder he started to completely avoid me
he was also openly anti-LGBT behind the scenes and would use all sorts of slurs you can imagine and he was very much straight (his own words) but would claim otherwise on camera and twitter, he said he went by they/he and made fun of people who go by they/them a week later.. all around terrilbe, awful human.. When I was 12, I lied and told a middle school friend of mine that I was half Asian (I'm fully white). I did this because I was into K-pop at the time, and having watched another (clearly white) girl get bullied for expressing interest in it, I thought that claiming to be half Asian would grant me some protection in a way (like, "oh, well it's not that weird if you're Asian").
