Christmas is not just based off of Saturnalia, but a combination of pagan festivals that happened around the time (Yule included). The church moved Christmas to be in December to make it easier for pagans to convert without giving up all of their traditions. So yeah, Jesus was not born in December.
[I'm adding this note after already writing the rest of the comment (since it's easy to misinterpret tone when there's only text). The following isn't intended to be preachy or defensive. I just genuinely find the topic to be interesting and tend to get long-winded. If you don't care, the TL;DR is that early Christians most likely got the date by calculating backwards from the date of Jesus' death (which people at the time believed was also the day of conception for great men), and arriving at the winter solstice coincidentally. Anyone who's interested in a more detailed explanation, read on.] That's actually a widely-believed myth. While Christmas celebrations weren't a thing yet, the earliest documented records of people trying to calculate the birth of Jesus are from around 200, whereas those pagan festivals weren't invented until 274 (before then, while it _was_ an important date in Roman religion, there wasn't any celebration/feast that took place). It's generally accepted that while early Christians were _aware_ that December 25th was a pagan holiday, it probably didn't affect their decision at all. In fact, interestingly, early historians (from the 1700's) believed that it's actually the other way around; that a late Roman emperor placed a holiday there to compete with the growing popularity of Christianity. While it's true that there's no proof that Jesus was born in December (and, in fact, a lot of modern analysis/extrapolation of the text says it's actually probably closer to February), we _do_ have a pretty good idea where the notion came from. At the time when they were trying to calculate his birth, there was a widely-held Jewish belief that a great man died on the same day he was conceived. Since Jesus' death took place during Passover (which was March 25th at the time), they believed he was also conceived on March 25. And if that's true, doing the math (adding 9 months) gives a birth-date of December 25th. Obviously that's not necessarily true, and the whole explanation is said to be "thoroughly viable, though not certain," but there's a lot of evidence that suggests that-whatever the case-it probably _wasn't_ because of pagan festivals. When Rome officially switched religion to Christianity, people who had celebrated Saturnalia decided to continue the traditions because they enjoyed them so much, celebrating them for Christmas since the dates were so close. Interestingly, because a lot of the traditions led to drunkenness and "other misbehavior," the Puritans and other denominations banned the celebration of Christmas in the 1700's. It wasn't until the mid-nineteenth century that some of the old traditions (like gift-giving) were brought back as part of a wide-spread "Christmas revival" (with help by people like Charles Dickens). So while Jesus probably _wasn't_ born in December and a lot of Christmas _traditions_ come from pagan holidays, the holiday itself wasn't invented/moved/altered to undermine them. It was just a coincidence that a lot of people took advantage of to justify gorging themselves on food and drink. (A fine tradition that has continued to this day! =D)

That being said, if I am not mistaken, Saturnalia was an incredibly important event in Roman culture and predates the birth of Christ by a large margin. Saturnalia was the time when roman boys became roman men and were given their official name (little hazy on that last part, been a while since my last roman history class). So if anything I said seems unclear or tacked-on, it's because I was writing as I skimmed articles to make sure I wasn't spouting BS, and correcting myself as I went. The "pagan holiday" I was referring to was specifically a feast celebrating the birth of Sol Invictus, which, based on all the sources that I saw, was the specific holiday that early historians were claiming Christmas was meant to compete with. Saturnalia wasn't mentioned at all in the section about why December 25th was chosen for the date of Christmas. It was further down in the section about historical traditions-hence why my mention of it seems so tacked on in my original comment. Based on the brief skimming that I did, my assumption is that because Saturnalia didn't take place on the solstice itself (if I understand correctly, it was originally a celebration on December 17th, and then later on expanded to a week-long celebration from December 17th-23rd), the original argument was _only_ that Christmas was competing with the Sol Invictus celebration. However, because Saturnalia's traditions _did, in fact_ get rolled into Christmas, laypeople reading about the theory after the fact thought it was about Saturnalia. So getting back to clarifying my original comment, when I said "pagan festivals weren't invented yet," what I meant was that the Roman religion didn't have an official holiday celebrating the solstice (despite being a date with religious importance to them) until after the Christians had already calculated that as being the date of Jesus' birth. Nah id tell them santas fake. I was never told he was real and today I have a very strong bond of trust with my mom because she was ALWAYS real with me.
Christmas is a culmination of a lot more than Saturnalia. There's also the Dutch legend of St. Nicholas, Gallic/Celtic legends about elves (or what we call elves in Christmas lore), and a British tradition of seasons greetings from 1750s onward to the late 1800s. Probably some other shit I cant think off the top of my head.
@@milesbradshaw6643 Yeah exactly. If you watched season 4 there was obvious signs to me that the show dipped in quality. Animation was stiff, jokes were completely unfunny, the character's personalities were unrecognizable especially Huey, they also overly relied on pop culture references for jokes instead of doing what the earlier seasons did which was deconstructing the pop culture myths about black culture and the stereotypes that comes with it.
Santa is based off of Saint Nicholas of Myra patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, prostitutes, children, brewers, and pawnbrokers who was a real person and would have be born around or close to Turkey. This would have given him black or olive skin and most likely black hair, making Santa look (BLACK or PERSIAN).
Huey underestimated the PTA causing his play to be boycotted which he was disappointed about it. Even though the play was made, but it's in a school play. Huey overdid it in the name of vision. Huey was arrogant for that. His vision became his "Citizen Kane" that the world will never know and it will be forgotten. Robert and Riley slept through his vision showing it's not interesting. His teacher who helped him was a politically incorrect. Riley is so funny when he attacked Santa at the mall.
"Be careful what you practice" good words, though just a thought. You clowning on belief in Santa, you religious? Cause that's a whole other man/being/beings in the sky watching you then, consistency is important. Rob really a one man construction crew, moving goal posts every time they start getting into his points.
telling kids about mythical beings only to disappoint them 5-10 years later seems really stupid and possibly harmful. unless its god, cuz most take that to the grave.
If we want to be historically accurate with Santa’s race, then we can’t be saying he was black or white. The man’s mom was born and raised in the Middle East. She wasn’t European, or African, Mary was Middle Eastern, and that means Jesus would have been Middle Eastern, too. Now, there’s nothing wrong with interpreting Jesus as any other particular race. We just have to remember that Jesus didn’t care about race. But Jesus also wasn’t a hippy. Jesus would beat your ass if you defied the word of god too much. There’s a story about how Jesus beat up a whole bunch of bankers for handling other people’s money, which is viewed as a sin in the Christian and Islamic Holy books. But regardless, Huey in this episode shows why he isn’t “woke”. He sees discrimination against Middle Eastern people happen in this episode, and when he’s given the chance to have a historically accurate Jesus, he basically says “No, I want a black Jesus”. In fact, he goes a step further, and tries to argue that because there were a few Africans in the Middle East around the time of Jesus’s life, that doesn’t mean Jesus was absolutely middle eastern. You see this all the time. White people and black people, they undermine the accomplishments of middle easterners, attributing their accomplishments to something or someone else. Black people saying that all the pharaohs of Egypt were really black, and white people saying that aliens built the pyramids. Huey is so focused on race, that he’ll never be able to see beyond it. Huey is not the smartest character on this show. He is just as flawed as his brother, just to the opposite extreme. There’s no reason to undermine the accomplishments of middle easterners, or to act like all major middle eastern historical figures were really black. Huey is completely out of line for doing that.
You just showed how ignorant you are. Huey made a great point. The Middle East is not a monolith. There is no one particular race that makes up Middle Eastern nation's. So what the heck does Jesus is Middle Eastern even mean ? Do you think only Arabic people have inhabited the Middle East throughout history ? Or people that exclusively resembled them? No. So it's not illogical to say Jesus was black. Let people think what they want. Nobody complain when everybody thought he was white. Now that people are starting to question the white jesus image now people want to complain
Look at the two of you. You’re doing exactly what I said was wrong. I said that both white and black people were wrong for misinterpreting Jesus. You don’t know me. You just assumed I had no issue with Jesus being portrayed as white. And you both did exactly what I said we need to stop doing. You’re erasing the accomplishments of middle easterners, just so that the version of history you want to believe in, can be accurate. Some white people will claim that people like Caeser were actually responsible for the prosperity ancient Egypt saw, and people like you will claim that Jesus and the original Hebrews were all black. There is simply no real evidence to support any of these claims. But there is real evidence for Jesus being middle eastern. Skeletal research into the areas that Jesus and Mary were born and raised, at the time they lived, have proven that most, of not all, people who lived in those places at the time most likely had olive skin, similar to average skin tone of the Iraqi’s of today. So you can look at all the old portraits of Jesus that make him look black all you want, those were probably made from people who only heard third hand info about Jesus, similar to the people who made the portraits that showed him to be white. All actual evidence, points to Jesus being Middle Eastern. And there is nothing wrong with that. But I will not stand here, and let you act like standing up for the Middle East is somehow wrong for me to do.
@@Laxhoop First of all I don't even teach the Hebrews were black. Tho the reality is there are black Hebrews due to admixture. Which even the scriptures teach this Acts 13:1 - Among the prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch of Syria were Barnabas, Simeon called 👉🏽the black man👈🏽, Lucius from Cyrene, Manaen the childhood companion of King Herod Antipas, and Saul So you're wrong. Not every single Hebrew was one exclusive color nor did they have one exclusive phenotype either. And the scriptures clearly say Jesus was a black man. The scriptures take precedence over everything
Sons of light For f*cks sake, I made the argument that research into skeletons that were found where Jesus and his Mom were said to have lived, from the time they supposedly lived, have all been of Middle Eastern decent, I never said that all figures from the Bible were of middle eastern decent. I don’t f*cking care what their race was, but according to the science, as in, what we can actually prove, what I’ve said is as accurate as we can be. I mean hell, there’s a chance that whoever said they were “black” didn’t mean they were African. You would have to assume that whoever wrote that was aware that “black” could refer to someone’s race, which did not become common until much later in history, as it was much more common to simply refer to people based on their country of origin. It’s very likely that whoever wrote that was referring to their character, their soul, how good of a person they were, or he may have meant that they were much more tanned than the average person. And yeah, some artistic interpretations of the person show them to be black, others from the exact same time show them to be white. We have no idea if any of the people who wrote about, or made art about Jesus or his disciples, ever even actually saw any of them. I mean, hell, we can’t even be sure if they simply didn’t have the materials to make lighter or darker shades of paint, to accurately represent their actual skin tone. This was 2,000 years ago, we have no idea who actually knew who, and resources were a lot more scarce. But again, even if we are to assume that a person from over 2,000 years ago, who’s words have been retranslated dozens of times, possibly losing some stuff along the way, meant exactly what our modern language and slang can interpret it as, even then, I never said that there was zero percent chance of any of the Israelites being black. I simply said that the chances of most of them being black, especially of Jesus himself being black, given the country and general region that most of them were born and raised in, and given the skeletal evidence we have to understand the general racial makeup of the region of the time, the most logical conclusion would be that Jesus and the larger portion of his disciples were ethnically middle eastern. And my point is that by cherry picking all of the smallest bits of evidence that happen to possibly support what you want to be true, and ignoring the larger pieces of evidence that go against what you want to be true, is not going to make what you want to be true, true. I don’t know how many times I have to repeat this, but you can portray Jesus as whatever race you want, it’s not really relevant to what Jesus wanted to teach, but when we actually want to get into history, and arguing about which race Jesus factually was, then all of the biggest pieces of evidence, point to him being middle eastern.
Gems Lion Yes, because I’m defending the Middle East, I must think all black people look alike, what type of f*cking summer-salt, 360 degree air flip, 4th dimensional backgammon ass mental gymnastics did you have to do to come to that god damn conclusion? Did you ask a random insult generating AI to come up with something for you, and that’s what it gave you? F*ck off with that. And you say the pharaoh mistook Moses for Egyptian. Well, he was, wasn’t he? Maybe not racially or Ethnically Egyptian, but you have to remember that we’re talking about Moses. The Pharaoh would have known Moses. The pharaoh’s own daughter raised him, of course the pharaoh would consider him Egyptian, he was an adopted family member. Unless we’re to believe the Pharaoh had somehow never met Moses, despite a blood relative raising him? You claim I’m a man of Satan because I have chosen to live with lies. I grew up believing that Christ was white, I was given evidence to show he was middle eastern, and I simply accepted it. If you could give me some actual evidence that Christ was black, I would reconsider, but all you’ve given me are bible verses, and the Bible is encouraged to be interpreted by the individual. For example, each pope is free to teach what they deem to be what the Bible actually says. I believe that the Bible was not written by god, but by men. And the words of those men have been translated many times, sometimes meticulously, sometimes hap-hazardly. What the Bible teaches is important, but no man can live their life without some degree with freedom. Not freedom to sin, but freedom to think, to create, to live. The words in the Bible dictate a very strict, stringent lifestyle, which I highly doubt a lot of people, including you or I, actually follow to the T. And you cap all of that off, by saying that you will be praying for me, due to me spreading the lies of Satan, and that you hope I find God. I mean, if you want to act like you’re above everything and everyone else, that’s a very white girl way to do it, you know, pretending like you’re wishing for my best, while insulting me as best you can.
I don't understand believing in Santa claus. I was raised in south central, and the thought of Santa claus coming by in the hood to drop off gifts seemed stupid compared to our day to day struggles. My mother never lied to me about Santa because she never seen the point. Why tell your kids he exists just to find out later on he doesn't. It doesn't stem imagination, we already had that. The only difference is: we know we're using our imagination and the other we're being lied to and forced to believe in this lie. I think it does more harm than good. Like what is that teaching kids at 7 and 8? Parents lie to you to make you feel some type of way one day out of the year? Now pass this practice on to your kids? I don't get it.
Facts. There’s no point in lying to your kids and this man. He don’t exist. Momma told me straight up. Some people say give kids something to believe in. My thing is why do that just to back track what you said in a few years. Not to mention the possibility of something on that list not being delivered. Plus the idea of going to billions of houses in one night across seven continents is completely outrageous.
Look, just because Huey says it, that doesn’t mean it’s historically accurate. His view of the world is also very biased. I mean, in his story about how Christmas was based on an ancient Roman holiday, all of the Romans were white, implying that, that’s what Huey thinks Ancient Rome was like, when really, Ancient Rome was very racially diverse. Rome would conquer and enslave people from anywhere, regardless of skin color, and then those slaves could earn their freedom, and citizenship within Rome, very easily. It wouldn’t have been weird for a man to go from slave to politician within a week, in Ancient Rome. However, the gay sex thing is probably accurate. A lot of the world pre-Christianity was *very* sexually promiscuous. It lead to a lot of problems, and societal decay became rampant because of it. Now, I’m not saying it’s wrong to be gay, I’m just saying that the ancient Romans didn’t understand that you can’t live your whole life with your dick in someone else, even if that someone else wasn’t your significant other, and also expect things to not fall apart. I mean, honestly, it’s no surprise that religions like Christianity, Islam and such are so, well, restrictive when it comes to things like sex. The larger societies that existed around the time they were created were basically falling apart because their politicians were more concerned with raping horses and children, than with actually running the country that elected them.
Christmas has Pagan Roots get over it. Even the Bible alludes to this. Anyone could go read Jeremiah the 10th chapter. Where the Babylonians used to take trees out of the forest and decorate them with ornaments in honor of their God tammuz. Or in Jeremiah chapter 7 where they used to leave dough and milk out for the Queen of Heaven semeramis. The reality is Christianity itself is pagan. Christianity does not properly represent the Bible
Sons of light Well if we wanted to properly represent the Old Testament, we would be stoning gay people, but we choose to follow the New Testament, and treat others as we wish to be treated.
Huey was speaking facts the actual St Nicolas that Santa was based off of was actually a black man! But like many other truths the white man couldn't have that!

Nah id tell them santas fake. I was never told he was real and today I have a very strong bond of trust with my mom because she was ALWAYS real with me.
That was funny af seeing rob fight his sleep
Christmas is a culmination of a lot more than Saturnalia. There's also the Dutch legend of St. Nicholas, Gallic/Celtic legends about elves (or what we call elves in Christmas lore), and a British tradition of seasons greetings from 1750s onward to the late 1800s. Probably some other shit I cant think off the top of my head.
11:42-12:30: I wonder if this is exactly what happens when executives meddle with the vision of film makers.
They probably did this to Aaron Macgruder. They interfered with his vision and he decided to leave.
@@knivesmillions2913 that would explain season 4.
@@knivesmillions2913 Agreed, I think we should consider season 4 non-canon like Dragon Ball GT.
You know you got that loud chew game when the camera is picking it up Patrick

Black Jesus is not trash
@@Laxhoop
First of all I don't even teach the Hebrews were black. Tho the reality is there are black Hebrews due to admixture. Which even the scriptures teach this
Acts 13:1 - Among the prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch of Syria were Barnabas, Simeon called 👉🏽the black man👈🏽, Lucius from Cyrene, Manaen the childhood companion of King Herod Antipas, and Saul
So you're wrong. Not every single Hebrew was one exclusive color nor did they have one exclusive phenotype either. And the scriptures clearly say Jesus was a black man. The scriptures take precedence over everything
Sons of light
For f*cks sake, I made the argument that research into skeletons that were found where Jesus and his Mom were said to have lived, from the time they supposedly lived, have all been of Middle Eastern decent, I never said that all figures from the Bible were of middle eastern decent.
Gems Lion
Yes, because I’m defending the Middle East, I must think all black people look alike, what type of f*cking summer-salt, 360 degree air flip, 4th dimensional backgammon ass mental gymnastics did you have to do to come to that god damn conclusion?

Sons of light
Well if we wanted to properly represent the Old Testament, we would be stoning gay people, but we choose to follow the New Testament, and treat others as we wish to be treated.
@@Laxhoop
Stoning people ? Plenty of people still do that in other countries
Sons of light
Yeah, but Christians don’t.
@@Laxhoop
I don't care what Christians do or don't do. I'm not a Christian
