      DaHookChannel I thought it was just me, but he always has this sideways hatred for Rakim, being 50 I was around for the golden age of hip hop 87-88, ppl were not saying Daddy O’s name or his group, they had success here and there but they weren’t a household name like LL Cool J or Big Daddy Kane or Run DMC. I know he’s a hater and feels slighted. Most of these old heads that didn’t land hard on the radar back then have a tendency to use platforms like TH-cam to wanna “ set the record straight”.

      I might have to agree. Those dudes are mad cryptic and complex. 30 years later, you can still catch new references that you missed on 3ft High. Stakes is High-the single and album is so lyrically dense. I'd put Plug 1 against any one in a battle. He's my favorite MC. He's tied with Kool G Rap for my money.

    Jersey is and has always been in a class by ourselves. I love BK emcees, but being honest here...as you start listing BK emcees, you start to hear repetitive styles and similarities.... jersey especially from the 80's 90's and early 2000's every jersey artist has their own signature style and sound. No one sounds like the next...Coming up in the shadow of NYC forces originality and the ability to stand out.

    Treach is lyrically better the Kane from a technical aspect if you ask me. If you break down his lyrics and hear the way he connects words....shit is amazing. I didn't think so when I was younger because New York MCs were being marketed and getting more airplay and promotion than Jersey rappers and every other rapper across the US. I remember Back then NYC rappers and people would not even give OUT OF TOWN rappers any recognition just because they weren't natives of NYC. NYC was the face of Hip Hop for a long time so the perception became that MCs from New York were automatically better than Jersey MCs and elsewhere. Now that I'm older, sometimes I will listen to Jersey rappers I didn't listen to back in the day and analyze their lyrics and compare them to some of my Favorite NEW YORK mcs. Treach is definitely a force to be reckoned with along with REDMAN, Lords of the Underground, Garden State Greats, Rottin Razkals, and so many others. I think New York rappers may have had more of the star quality/it factor than Jersey MCs and sometimes that gave listeners the perception that certain artist were better than others based on clothes, swag, look, etc.
    And of course New York has way more MCs to work with due to the fact that they would shit on everybody not form New York. Trust me....if New Jersey would of had the opportunity to flourish during the inception of Hip Hop and didn't have to deal with the NEW YORK Bias....Jersey would hands down be a top competitor with NYC lyrically.

      Disagree about airplay wasn't any mc's from NY getting more airplay then Naughty at Naughty's peak O.P.P. and hip hop hooray are probably top 5 most played rap songs played throughout the US in the 90's

    • @robreal6476
      @robreal6476 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingsports1113 Let me ask you this though. What if Treach would have came out first and had the same star power that Kane had building up for years and years + Treach's Unique Style and flow. And along Big Daddy Kane came trying to get his foot in the door as a no name mc...with no access to Major record Labels, DJs, etc. Most people would just look at Kane like a regular MCs. It happens all the time. I promise you there are MCs out here could easily tear up our TOP 5 or 10 mcs and these are rappers we've never heard of or are so underground that it's hard to take notice of them. The music industry has a way of branding artist through subconscious mental tactics to make you think he or she is the greatest thing to hit the industry. And not saying KANE is not dope...because he's definitely skilled for sure. But it's never just about skill and talent...The whole artist Package is what makes people determine if MCs or dope or not whether he or she realizes that.
      But just think about that And go back and listen to Naughty by Nature's older albums up until they blew up. And you'll hear how Treach has influenced so many lyrical styles that exist today. He's the first MC I've ever heard make words rhyme that don't technically rhyme...and is where Eminem got that stye from.
      Also New York definitely had better BEATs for rappers to use than Jersey at that time. I think KAYGEE was pretty much the only producer making beats for Jersey artist in the 90s. And his beats were ok in my opinion but not like a DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, etc.

New York being the Birthplace of Hip Hop made it easier for artist there to get radio airplay way before Jersey Mc's started to get recognized. New York has always been 10 steps ahead of artist from other regions as far as access to record Labels, DJs, etc.

    Buggin' with that Rakim and De La Soul take, but Daddy-O is on point 1000 percent with Eminem. At some point, Black people need to stand up and tell it like it is. Too many great underground lyricists will never get shine. But even if you just take the true legends, Eminem can't compete with Foundational Emcees that have shaped hip-hop culture.

I respect NJ talent because i was a fan of Poor Righteous Teachers Redmam Lords of the Underground and others but he is off his rocker . Brooklyn by far had better talent. No disrespect to NJ but they couldn't compare to the talent Long Island spit out during the Golden Era .And brot Grand Daddy IU was a Long Island bred Mc from.
