I always thought the "choir" sound was the sound of slick tyres on a country road. My bicycle sounds like this when there is enough silence. The gentle alternative to Kraftwerk's "Tour de France". MUM from Iceland are also keen cyclists by the way ... Looking forward to the BOC cycling jersey ;)
There's loads of pre-twoism boards stuff that was only made on cassettes and given to their friends. Over the years they've all seeped through and got online and people have kept them going round. This track is from the 2001 ATP festival that Autechre curated. I was there and it was the best gig i've ever been to.
Well, They are completely amazing. I Love their sound, from the speech samples, to the squelchy melodic lines, to the time stretched drum breaks... all in all its more of an illustrative soundscape describing a mindstate and emotion than a tune. THIS MUSIC is awesome. I Wish that one day I will see them at a once in a lifetime live performance... look at FSOL playing BLOC...it is possible! peace out from NORFOLK!
A very good question! Electro-Musicans are Not Musicans, They are Composers. The Musican is the Computer, a dead Maschine. So its Not a live Concert, its a dead Concert. Electro-"Musicans" will hate me for this words but IT dont Matters. BoC autechre aphex twin Plaid Kraftwerk... are fantastic Composers!
They actually had a few things they made that wasnt released to the public, but to only friends and family. There were three volums of a few old tunes, and yes they are like the Holy Grail.
sounds even better if you type &fmt=18 at the end of the link... just punch that in at the end of the link and it'll turn the audio into stereo. You can mark this as spam if you want or minus it, but you won't know if it's true or not until you try it. Excellent upload.
I was reading that BoC are bringing an album out in the second half of this year, one of the tracks is called Isolated receiver. I think there was a bit about it on the bleep website.
BLOC was awesome, by the way. I really hope you were there with me when FSOL played! It was such a brilliant brilliant fest. You see, rumour is the reason FSOL have started playing gigs again is because they've been badly affected by the credit crunch. They make just enough to get by from their albums, so they've been forced into the position of live performance again and they've also started remixing for this same reason (you should check out their 22-minute mix of Oasis's "Falling Down").
I doubt it, they "stayed afloat" for 20 years without doing live gigs or releasing music commercially (only giving out cassettes to friends and family), i'm pretty sure they can keep it up
love boards of canada. i have a question though. i was reading up on a "supposed" cassette tape by BOC that was released for only a short period of time. its from the band's earlier days and i believe its called, "A few Old Tunes." apparently there was controversy behind it so the release was not made huge at all...anybody care to enlighten me on this thanks.
I believe it didn’t become huge because the band wasn’t proud of it, same goes for some of the other tapes like hooper bay, they didn’t release it because they didn’t think it was good enough to be released.
@SomeGuyMakesVideos you see this with lots of DIY bands. People who are always writing and recording. They're always making mixes and "unofficial albums" of music they'd never release publicly for friends. I've had the honor to receive a few of these from artists like Pataphysics and Shrimp Olympics. I'm sure they were mad over Old Tunes leaking because they were embarrassed of the music within, unthinkable as that may sound to a fan. Pat Healy, frontman of this band Pataphysics recently sent me a mix with this unreleased song Code Adam on it. I think it's the best thing he's ever done, but he begged me not to put it online.
I'm surprised people actually tried it and didn't automatically assume I was trying to get them to buy something. I guess people who listen to BoC are generally really cool :)
@musicoutsidethebox LOL I can taste your bile, no I wouldn't doubt for a second that it gets the point across but it shows such underlying bias. The name IDM is rather, shall we say closed minded.. :) "I just think it's really funny to have terms like that. It's basically saying, 'this is intelligent and everything else is stupid.' It's really nasty to everyone else's music. (laughs) It makes me laugh, things like that. I don't use names. I just say that I like something or I don't." Aphex Twin
Indeed I was there!!! ah, man i was literally right at the front... mind blowingly spiritual experience. FSOL & Scientist were my favourite acts. I actually met hopeton brown man, he is incredibly sound. peace and love ! i shall check that remix and get str8 back 2 u. Peep my videos of bloc :D it was great wasnt it : ) i
i love how some of the crowd cheers when the second half comes in. it’s probably the best part of the song imo
The moment when the main "theme" kicks in here gives me even more goosebumps than it does on the studio version.
this is defenitly one of the best songs ever existed
Never looked at the guys who are responsible for the powerful music of boards of canada. I wish i could tell them thank you for changing my life

Can you elaborate?

Listening to them just makes me feel ok. Hugs from an argentinian guy!

It's beautiful and nostalgic, how could you dislike it
I was at the front also for FSOL - played a beast of a set. I was also at Ulrich Schnauss, I should let you know - mind-bending stuff!

TheBloggme woo hoo im on bong(o)
I wonder if that's why they don't go live anymore, they realized that their music is better listened to in solitude
My favourite too

Excellent!! BOC live !! I want to see this music performance!!!!
I never understood how you can play electro music live. Do you simply play the song or mix everything on stage? o.O

@@erfurtelektro2687 that’s such an interesting explanation, never would have thought of that
@@anyaisma4878 Thanx for your answer... Best Wishes from Germany

2023 says hello. Song should be called Seagulls are pricks because they are.

God I wish i was there
@musicoutsidethebox Protip. Don't call it IDM, in the uk we don't call it that.
These and autechre are the only bands left that I want to see live.
every track of BOC is magic
my personal Heroes!
increible,
I doubt it, they "stayed afloat" for 20 years without doing live gigs or releasing music commercially (only giving out cassettes to friends and family), i'm pretty sure they can keep it up
ellos gana mucho dinero por las licensias
te daria miedo a cantidad de usos que la musica de ellos tiene

Those guys must know everything a bout Synths & Beats
thxs
The Real Deal.
same here, i want to stick it in my wall.
Yeah but with all the illeagal downloading and other factors its not long before theyre going to have to start doing live gigs just to stay afloat.
It's a pity they don't tour. Although I guess it's not music that may easily be 'performed', if at all. I guess just mixed.

What does the vocal say just before the seagulls?
Bad day, in a Jamaican voice

is this a bootleg or have they released a live album?
Where was this performance?
this is a bootleg. No live album. They very rarely play live. They like to keep their cards hidden, so to speak...
