Yamaha XT250 Test Ride and First Impressions: Quite Possibly The Best Dual Sport for Short Riders
I was very excited to have a chance to take out the 2009 Yamaha XT250 on an extended on and off road test ride thanks to our friends at Power Yamaha in Sublimity, Oregon. The Yamaha XT250 is one of my favorite dual sport motorcycles for new riders because of its low seat height, modern features like fuel injection and disk brakes, low cost of ownership, and easy power delivery. This extended Yamaha XT250 test ride gave me an opportunity to do both an on road and off road XT250 test ride and I was impressed with its performance. My overall Yamaha XT250 review is that it's a very capable and easy to ride bike for a dual sport beginner, but has enough power and capability to make it fun for even an experienced rider. It's not fast but you can push it as hard as you want and never get yourself in trouble and that's its own kind of fun.

Great find, still in production, now with fuel injection. Excellent bike for the right rider. Low speed technical riding is what this machine needs excels at. Lots of upgrades available, including suspension upgrades can be purchased through Procycle

this is the best street-legal trail bike you can buy, it's a better trail bike than the klx300 and the crf300 because the low-end power is much more linear and responsive than the Honda/kawasaki. This bike actually feels faster than the other 2 on the trails because of the low-end grunt and you don't need to rev it out in 1st or 2nd in technical terrains. A good comparison is the Honda crf250f but that bike is not street-legal (I live in California). The first thing I did was change out the incandescent bulb to the LED and bought a LED relay (its 3 prongs) and its night and day (LITERALLY), you can get the 1157 socket REAR LED brake light made for cars, and the LED h4 socket for the front (also made for cars) and you'll glow like a Christmas tree which is great because for some reason Yamaha made all the newer model the color scheme of the road lol. Manufacturers will never make small displacement bikes like this anymore because of emission standards, so this is literally the last of its kind. All the newer small displacement trail bikes are all too high revving machines which is BAD for enduro riding!
