Separate your summer and winter clothes! Put a small bin of things you ONLY wear during summer away and then when summer comes, swap them out! I do this for my closet, works wonders!

I think it's a habit you develop depending on where you grow up. I live near London and it isn't that uncommon to need your winter clothes during summer as the weather can be all over the place.

@@annelisewhite6244 I live near Chicago and can atest to keeping my "favorite" items all year round. Meaning my favorite t shirt and sweater never leave the closet! However I do try to limit it. I have had to dig into my winter clothes during summer and vice versa so not full proof but would still eliminate lots of space :)

An easy way to deal with indecision is to take every dress you have any doubts about and put them in a box somewhere you don't look at often. After a few months, if you find you haven't missed any of those dresses or forgot about them, then you know you can get rid of them. If you find yourself actually thinking about some of the stuff you put away, then you'll know you want to keep it.

That's a good idea. I cleaned out my closet not too long ago of all the clothes I didn't wear, which was 90% of my wardrobe. I put all of them in my bed drawer and if I don't search for any clothes, I'm just going to donate all of them eventually.

    • @LadyLyn1234

With dresses like that black one with the white crosses I would say keep it, wear it once or twice and really think about how you look in it and how it fits. If you love how it fits/looks on you, keep it. If you're indifferent or you find a few small details you dislike, give it away. That would be my advice :)

And with that black faux leather dress, DO NOT PUT IT IN A HEATED DRYER OR IRON IT! Air dry and use a steamer to get the wrinkles out.
I made the horrible mistake of putting faux leather items in the dryer and they were ruined beyond salvage. :'(

What helped me organize my closet was Marie Kondo’s technique - you look at a piece of clothing and if it brings you joy - keep it. If conflicted or unsure it means time to donate. Move on! 😆 She also recommends when you buy a new dress, you get rid of an old dress. That way the closet isn’t cluttered and always updated.

Hi Mikan, I always love these closet clean out videos!! Some suggestions for the future:
    1. You don’t have to shame yourself for shopping if it brings you this much joy, instead, you could just do these types of clean out videos more often!
    2. Using the tactic of “do I like this or not” is a very hard decision to make when clothing in general brings you joy and you grow attached to it. So, I suggest you set a number limit for the amount of dresses you can have in your closet at once. For example, you can have 30 at once, and if you buy one more, you have to give away an old one. Then when you do your closet clean outs, you set a number for yourself for the amount of dresses you have to give away. For example, you count that you have 30 dresses in total, so you have to give away at least 5 no matter what. That way you’re forced to decide haha 😂
Sorry for the long comment, it’s just very relatable, the difficulty in giving away clothes especially if you attach a lot of meaning to it. So I hope those were a bit helpful, much love 💜✨

I'm steadily sorting out my fast fashion problem too so I have some tips that may help you:
    1) choose good quality pieces that you genuinely love and want/ need then you won't tire of them
    2) if you’re thinking about buying an item that you already have- think about if you actually need it, like are you just buying it cos it’s a different colour?
    3) have a look at the material (I try not to buy synthetic stuff cos of microplastic's)
    4) look at secondhand items and renting
    5) learn about fast fashion and remind yourself why you’re doing it and how much you save. I don’t think that trends necessarily need to be followed- I think of them as a harmful sales ploy. I highly recommend watching fast fashion is hot garbage by climate town.
    6) mix and match items
    7) maybe make pieces?
    8) maybe set a monthly limit?
This last year I’ve made immediate changes but it's ok to steadily make progress so you don't feel overwhelmed. But I think the biggest change has been that I’ve steadily thought about clothes less and thought more about how trash it is (plus working from home has helped).

I definitely think you made the right choice with most of these. Especially the long grey one, it looks stunning on you! If I were you I would get rid of the long black one because that fake leather material can’t be ironed and is just her ally difficult to deal with. I would also get rid of the one you wanted to alter a bit since realistically you don’t know when you’ll get to it and even if you will like it after it has been altered. Lastly I would keep the black dress with the daisies because it is unlike all of your other dresses and I think when you wear it with the white belt it fits you perfectly 🙂 hope this helps!

what I'd do with the black dress situation: just try it on and put some nice accessoires like a belt on it if it feels too plain and maybe wear it for a day. then you can see if you feel good in it or not! if you dont like it you can still give it to a friend. also; i personally really like that dress!!

okay firstly I absofreakinglutely love that sweater you're wearing... the color is so pretty and it's really cute with the jeans! secondly that cat life is very relatable... while watching your video one of my cats was just trampling back and forth across me and putting her face in my tea mug constantly. and yeah closing them out of a room the always have access to = yelling party so there's no winning lol. thirdly my god all these dresses are adorable aaaah! I wonder if maybe just hanging all of them would allow you to see and remember to wear them?? you could group them vaguely by style or color to make it more apparent which of the similar ones you end up reaching for more. or if there's not enough hanging space, maybe hanging up the ones in season and putting out of season ones in the bin? large bins of clothes make it SO EASY to forget you have clothes that you actually like and want to wear lol!

I used to have a problem with impulse buying clothes and then not wearing them much for various reasons (didn't fit well, nothing to wear it with, uncomfortable, the excitement wore off, etc.). Here are a few questions I ask myself while shopping to help decide on items:
    1. Do I just think the item looks nice or can I NOT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT? I have found that items I can't stop thinking about after seeing them on the rack are the ones that will end up my absolute favorites for YEARS. But if I look at it, like it, then walk away and forget about it, it's not worth the money.
    2. Do I already have something similar? If yes, then pass. Don't need two.
    3. Will I wear it enough that the price will be worth it? Will I think back on this purchase later and be so glad I splurged OR will I regret spending that money on something that turned out to be "meh"?
Sorry for the book, lol. Hope this helps!

sometimes there are online "shops" where you can rent a piece of clothing for a month or so. usually you can decide by end of the rent period if you want to buy that piece or send it back. maybe that would be a good option for you if you get bored with your wardrobe and feel the urge to buy something new. that is if something like this exists in japan as well of course

it's okey if you don't want to get rid of your dresses, but it can help to put away summer dresses, like in a box or something where you can't see them and in the wardrobe just keep your winter clothes for now, so you know what you have and easy access to it and you have also more space. And when spring/summer comes again do the same, summer cloth in the wardrobe and the rest put them away. This is what I do and it helps me a lot

  • @NTSMstarz

Mikan, next time you have a box that won't slide out cause it's packed, start by wiggling it out a little, then pull out some of the dresses from the front of the box and put them aside so you can move the ones that are catching at the back to the front. then you'll be able to take the whole box out without hurting your hands or pulling the whole wardrobe around. i hope this helps!

I feel you with purchases you got talked into (looking at a cool but uncomfortable set of gothic boots in the corner). What helps, is when you go shopping, take a friend with you or chat with someone online that you tell beforehand to be very critical- do you need another dress, don't you have enough pink plaid, where would you store it, is the material not too wrinkly, who made it (watching fast fashion documentaries really helps to make a break on that one). And consider going to a seamstress to alter in stuff you love, but that don't fit well. Better to pay 1000 Yen to a local craftsperson, than getting another 2000 Yen fast fashion dress.
Maybe you can also go to or even organize a clothing swap (plus video), once the plague is better.

wearing it or not. And don't feel ashamed or blame yourself for having that many dresses. (they are so cute I would like to have them too) Since clothing is very important to you, they have their own place in your heart. I don't want you to stress about it. ☺

That's an incredibly unhealthy mindset to have. I've never had to deal with that sort of thing myself thankfully but I imagine it to be stressful. I hope that once you're independent you can wear all the dresses you want! Btw, if online ordering is an option for you, try looking into East Asian fashion brands, their sizing tends to be on the smaller side since girls and women there tend to be of smaller build. Keep the pink floral at about 27:09. I think it's different enough from the others

For the dresses you're not sure about: maybe do a fashion video like the "wearing XY outfits for a week" you already did. :3 It would "force" you to wear them and see if you really wanna keep them ~

I say a idea if you have too many dresses you can sell it on depop I know alot of ppl use when they don't want to throw it away and give it to someone else that will wear it

Hello Mikan! Something that might help with cleaning up your closet/future purchases, is to not buy/to throw out any item that you’re not sure of! :O’ Because there’s usually doubt for a reason. ^^ Also I’d suggest throwing out clothes you’ve never worn/rarely wear. It seems like a waste, but the chances of you still going to wear it/often going to wear it isn’t big either, or you would have already done It! :O (With the exception of clothes you save for certain seasons. Although I’d also suggest not buying for seasons in advance if you have trouble controlling your co consumption, as you will find plenty of cute things when the season is there as well! ;P)
In any case I’m guilty for enjoying hauls and this video too much hahahaha. XD Good luck and kudos for working on your consumption habits! ^^
Also for anyone reading, try not to throw away old clothes (unless they’re damaged), but find a way to give them to someone else! :D Either through reselling/giving to people or simply donating to charity. ^^ It’s a shame to throw away perfectly fine clothing! :O

You put out lovely video’s. You should keep everything that makes you happy and feel good in or looking at. Some things that you mentioned were some were flimsy material and some wrinkle easy, I absolutely agree don’t hang onto those if it brings stress. 🤗 💐 ❤️

This might not be for everyone, but my way of not buying too many clothes (and not spending too much money on them) is only buying thrifted clothes. Since I have a particular style and wear a bigger size, I don't always end up finding new things, but the ones I do find I love and wear a lot! Also, when going to thrift stores on trips to other countries/cities you get the added bonus of a nice memory associated with the clothes ^^ Also I might be able to study abroad in Japan next year, so me not buying too many clothes might change then, since I gotta take advantage of the opportunity ^^'
I never had that many cute clothes while in school (mainly because I went to an art school and wearing too fancy clothes is dangerous when handling hot glue guns and acrylic paint all the time), but now in the last year or two I slowly started to find (and make) some cute stuff that I really like!
