Atlanta, GA is clearly one of the largest cities in the SouthEast. In the mid 1800's, it was Richmond, VA. This is why it was chosen as the capital of the Confederate States. Richmond continued to remain a large city boosting the first skyscraper in the South in 1929. 23 story Central National Bank building was 282' tall. It wasn't until 1958 when Atlanta's Fulton National Bank Building (295') overtook CNB.
