My dad was a corporal with the RPC (518 COY). We lived in Little Aden them Mala, 1964-67. We went swimming in Elephant Bay, and school was Chapel Hill near Crater.
Aden was beautiful before, and now do not be shy, talk about it everywhere. I am looking for it. Now it is living in conflict. Why is it not ruled by its sons, the unity regime, and Sanaa is trying to destroy it and take it again? I first swam on the sea at the NAAFI Club, Steamer Point, back in 1955 - age 9 - outward bound to Hong Kong on the Asturias - have a photo of the swim, complete with background shark netting.

atinis - I don't think Aden and the rest of Yemen is happier or more peaceful now, than when as part of the dar al-Britannia! I was in Aden several times from 1949 until 1958, it was more 'peaceful' then.
I lived in Aden at this time -- i lived in Crater opposite the football stadium -- --a great place for a small boy -- swimming every day at waterloo pool or the lido or elephant bay.. and layed well with the locl kids --then the problems started and we couldnt play together any more -- that was sad... best wishes to you and Aden...

My first tour was from 1966 to 1967, straight from training and pass out, green as the grass could be!
