Very helpful thanks. When I did it, it took about 20 minutes and this was the reason it was done so easily. One NB is that unlike in this video, when the door card came off it left the six black plugs in the door. I had to carefully lever each one out with pliers, and slot them back into the slots on the door card before replacing the card on the door. (For info, I got my paint-finished replacement mirror from Mirrorman, Another comment is that it is worth looking at the option to just replace the mirror cap or the mirror glass if that is the only broken part as these can be obtained independently.)

Great video mate... it really helped me to get my right mirror changed with the least amount of hassle... except of course that I should've listened to your advice about the mirror torque socket screws and as luck turns out one of them fell down into the door panel and I had to open up the whole thing to get it out!!

Reasonable instructions BUT it's not as easy as this.
On mine (with electric windows) the handle casing doesn't 'just slide backward', it's actually VERY difficult to remove without damaging both components (and it slides towards the front of the car). There are two small holes at the back (top and bottom) into which you can insert a small (try 2 or 3mm) allen key. This should enable you to push two little plastic clips to release the handle casing - this is very difficult because the clips have very little flex in them. I used a thin paint scraper (with about a one inch blade) to prise the cover off by using a twisting motion on the paint scraper). It will eventually come off! You might want to cover both sides of the handle casing with a strip of masking tape, or similar, in case the blade slips.
When you come to take the door panel off this very be VERY stiff unless it's been off before. In addition to the screws there are six (three each side) 'clip-studs'. When you prise the panel off (I used the paint scraper inside a rubber glove, so as not to damage paint or panel) the clip-studs will probably be left attached to the door. You need to be careful prising the panel off because the white 'female' parts of the clip (into which the clip-studs slide before being pressed into the door) are part of the door panel and I don't think you can replace them. You need to prise from the door any clip-studs which are stuck in the door (all six of mine were) again I used the trusty paint scraper in a thin rubber glove to get behind the base of the clip-stud and 'ping' it off - probably best not to use pliers because you may 'squish' the clip-studs. You can then re-slide the clip-studs into the white receiving parts on the panel ready for clipping the panel back into place.
A tip I have for not dropping the screws which attach the wing mirror is to place a tiny (and I mean TINY) blob of BluTack on the end of your Torx fastener - this will give a little stickiness which will (hopefully) allow the screw to stick to the Torx bit thereby aiding removal and replacement.
Hope these comments help... oh, allow about an hour to do this job properly.

keyjpb I've just had a quick look into my 9n3 and it's the same as you have described, but without having electric windows. The handle it very hard to get off. When I next get some free time, i'll try your method! Cheers!

I have just had the very same experience. One of the handle cover barbed fixings snapped and it took a plastic bodywork fixing tool twisted very hard in the small gap to only just move the handle cover. Also the door internal panel was a sod to get off, but no fixings broke. One pulled out of the panel and had to be released from the door using the bodywork wedge tool and refitted back into the panel.
Wish I had read you post first about the hole to release the barbed fixings.

Do you know if the wiring for electric windows is present in the main loom in those non electric window cars? The door loom will be different no doubt but it would make a conversion easier for me if the car loom was standard across the range

Thanks! Up to 3 min in thevideo this afternoon.
Removing the "clips" was a lot harder than it looked on the video and needed quite a bit of force to get them to come away. Looks like they will be tricky to get back on? Any tips as that bit again looks easy but suspect it isn't?

@@BMACVAGS Finally got round to sorting it following all your great advice. There's a slight difference on cars with electric windows, in that there is an electric window switch that is built into the arm rest, which has to be prised upwards, but once that is figured out it's all pretty much the same. It saved me loads of cash though, thanks again.

This really helped me fit my new wing mirror thanks! When I smashed my old one I couldn't use the electric switch to use them - it still won't work now it's fixed. Any ideas why? Can anyone help?

Hi dude, You should do a video on how to change the doorcard speakers. Not too complicated but quite a piss around with the cases the speakers come in to project the speaker out so it doesn't catch the window as you roll it down. Cheers

My passenger window is stuck down and I can see a loose end of cable inside the door when I look down in where the window goes up and down: presuambly the mechanism has come adrift or cable snapped. Anyhow, with the aid of this video I should be able to get the panel off and have a look. I would never have thought of how to get at the 2 upper screws inside the handle, although I did see the ones right at the bottom. With luck I'll be able to move the glass up to make it at least look secure... Thanks!

    • @jimbrownza
      @jimbrownza 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Ok so it's not as simple as that grrrr. I got the panel off as shown in this video, thanks for that, but the glass is behind another sheet of metal. Another youtube I found showed removing the glass by getting at the clamps through those 2x plastic bungs, but that relies on the glass being up. My problem is, the glass is jammed down, with the stuffed mechanism, and I can't get at the glass to force it up to make car secure.
But that said, with glass down it seems to me that the panel *and* glass should come out in one piece but I can't see how to do that.
Any thought please on how to get me out of this hole, where the glass is down and car insecure?
