      Affordable housing for lower income families is a problem. In my city there is a two year plus wait list to get into affordable units. All the new builds are lavish huge private family homes that no one is buying to rent out and they aren't built for subsidized rentals.

      Being a career politician has been very profitable for Poilievre. The sum total of his real world experience before entering politics at age 25 - was doing corporate collections over the phone for Telus - *that's it!* He now lives in a taxpayer funded 19 room mansion complete with private chef & servants, with monthly water bills of up to $7500 and annual cleaning bills of $170,000.     Here a reality check.
    Builders are not going to build if mortgage rates are over 2%. Builders are not going to build houses for under 500k. The only solution is to not rely on builders. Sell land in plots to Canadians and allow them to build (or hire their own builder) their own houses.
    The builders that built my home in 1973 went out of business in 1981 when mortgage rates hit 20%.
    Boom/bust economies will not solve the housing crisis.

    If you want more affordable housing. Start building cookie cutter war time houses. Not everyone wants a million dollar home they just want a roof over their heads. Anyone who can't live in a small modest home that is affordable can spend a million dollars that is their choice.I would be happy if I could buy a 24 x 32 foot 3 bedroom bungalow.

      They're not profitable. The cost of alot of the building process goes down significantly to build bigger homes.
      Wiring for instance. Every house needs a panel they're pretty expensive. Three small houses would cost more in breaker panels than one big one costs in extra wiring.

      The labour shortage isn't in available effort it's in avaliable positions. We created an economy that subsists making goods with low pay labourers. If your job doesn't pay your bills you find a new job or you change your bills. Either way thats less Canadians working in service and personal labour.

    almost every student coming to canada adda 20-40K to economy even before thay land on canada.

    Conservatives had 10 years in power and failed to deliver on affordability - 800,000 affordable homes were lost - the price of housing went up 60%. Poilievre claims to care about the housing crisis and yet voted 3X against building affordable housing. Big Real Estate industry execs, who are buying up much of Canada's affordable housing stock - are major donors to the Conservative party and even have real estate industry lobbyists on the Conservative party's top governing body.
