  • Join us as we delve into the life of Randy Roberts, born in 1951 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Growing up in a factory town along the Allegheny River, Randy's early memories include an unforgettable water-skiing incident in the coke-bottle green waters. Moving to Camp Hill in 1956, Randy was immersed in a family tradition of sports, with his brothers Laurie and Craig excelling as athletes.
    In high school, Randy played varsity football, basketball, and tennis, finding mentors in his coaches and forming a lifelong passion for sports. After a successful high school career, he attended Mansfield State University, where he initially played football before focusing on tennis.
    Randy pursued academia, earning an MA from the University of Nebraska and a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Since 1988, he has been a distinguished professor at Purdue University, where he has won numerous teaching awards.
    Though he never became a high school history teacher or coach, Randy channeled his love for sports into writing. He authored over twenty-five books on notable sports figures and historical events, earning four Pulitzer Prize nominations and the Liebling Award from the Boxing Writers Association of America.
