I installed mine myself thanks to the help of this video. Because of my lack for attention to detail, I ran into a small problem. After about 30 rounds in, I noticed that the handguard was separating from the upper receiver. It was definately an 'Oh shit...' moment. It moved forward a good half inch leaving a noticeable gap, and thankfully I caught it before continuing to fire. My mistakes: I didn't tighten the block screw enough, so my lazy ass got out the torque wrench. Also, I used 242 threadlocker on the first install. I completely bamboozled that one, but I always learn from my mistakes. This firearm is the first that I've actually worked on, and it got a full HBi makeover thanks to their instructional videos. 1000 rounds later and we're still peachy.
For anyone that owns the pistol model with the flash can, I used an allen wrench that snuggly fit inside the two notches and tapped it with a hammer. It released fairly easily. Also, HB industries' carbine barrel nut tool worked AMAZINGLY. Worth every penny.
Thank you for this. Not much info out there on the pistol model with the flash can. I was wondering if the HB industries carbine barrel nut tool was needed. Definitely going to order that. The stock sling mounts have been digging into my hands when manipulating the charging handle. I need to remove them and this will help.
For those like me watching this video trying to figure out what Torx screw size wrench I need to remove my handguard, it's a T25 mentioned at 13:36 / 13:37.
I just replaced the trigger spring on my Scorpion as well as the charging handle, trigger, mag release and safety. The spring was a huge pain but your instructions were great. The rest were really easy. This'll be my next modification.
Why couldn't we just use the charging handle right after removing it from the stock handguard into the new handguard? I saw that you took out and replaced a pin but didn't understand why this was necessary
as he mentioned, switching out the load spring inside to make it smoother with the provided spring from HB. If the original load spring is ok for you, you can keep it and don't need to take it out apart.
Thank you very much for this video. I was a little concerned about how the forend would match up to the body of the firearm. Once again you guys knock it out of the park. Make it simple and quite honestly I think will improve the harmonics of the barrel in May improve accuracy. I'm excited to get the carbine hand guard and can't wait to see what you guys have next!
Where did you get the roll pin that is installed after installing the charging handle? Was this removed when breaking down the original handgaurd or did you get this from somewhere else? Minute 24:33 in the video
The instructions you supply with this hand guard it says to tighten the long screw to “80 in*lbs”. I assumed this wasn’t right the first time I tried but still followed those instructions and broke the screw. So I hope you guys see this and fix that on your later shipments to people.
I know this is old, but I just acquired a Scorpion S1 evo and will be doing this with one of your FDE handguards.. I already ordered a bunch of parts and am looking for the FDE Brace.. Cannot find one anywhere.. (01/01/2023) Question, Can you still use the under mount hand stop on the new handguard ? thx
@@darrell252michelle No, looked up Gun deals and elsewhere, found it on Locked and Loaded for (removed) best price and the last day of the rebate w/ backpack and 2 mag promo from CZ... So I went for it.. especially in FDE...Now I warn you I already have almost 4 (hundred) extra HB parts ordered... Hopefully I can say that..
Yes. I ordered mine when it was on clearance and the only color available was OD green. Next day the other colors went on clearance and was like fuck. So I got a brace and a timney trigger ordered. Awaiting everything to ship.
The factory handstop is 1913/picatinny mount, our handgaurd is machined for MLOK. So, you will need to get a different handstop. But there are plenty of MLOK handstop options out there, and we like to recommend magpul # MAG608 as probably the most effective low cost handstop kit. For about $20 you get two different handstop pieces, and they fit such a wide range of handguards (ours and others). Its a nice little kit to keep around.
@runlevelone - these handguards took us much longer to machine than anticipated, we are running around the clock right now trying to rebuild inventory and catch back up. Very sorry for the delay and hope that we will have the opportunity to earn your business again in the future :-)
Two questions: 1) Why does it say cut the barrel down to ~5" with the micro-handguard? Would a longer barrel affect functioning or is it just aesthetic? Are there any pics of the micro handguard with the OEM barrel? 2) Why not take the top of the rail out further (instead of copying the angle of the OEM)--since that would increase sight radius?
Man sucks that it’s not recommend to use the after market charging handle… I’m not sure where my stock charging handle is haha. Do you guys make a polymer after market charging handle? As always, great video! I did my very first aftermarket trigger swap/reduced weight spring on my scorpion following your guy’s video. 😄
Thank you for the kind words! We do make an extended polymer charging handle, here is a link: hbindustries.net/store/shop/cz-scorpion-prostock-charging-handle/
@@hb_industries quick question, I ordered the handguard and I am putting it on right now. Im at the end at the charging handle part and I’m not seeing the reduced weight wire spring/roll pin for the charging handle. I did order your after market polymer charging handle with the handguard, does your charging handle already come with the reduced weight spring? Another awesome video by the way! 👏 super easy to follow. Thanks for everything you guys do.
@@dwells3536 Short answer: you can use either the factory charging handle or any of ours, no reduced weight spring is needed. Long answer: We made this video in 2016 and since then have been able to update our handguard(s) to work with all known changing handle springs on the market. And we need to re-make this install video :-)
"Complete Kit" is everything needed to install the handguard (incl. trunnion/mounting block and all hardware). "Shroud Only" is literally just the handguard shroud; this is useful when a customer would like to buy multiple length/size handguards for one Evo, normally to accommodate various muzzle devices or to shroud suppressors. So the "Shroud Only" option can help certain customers save a little coin, but it can also be confusing, and it is worth asking about. Great question.
@TheCONtwo great question, SiCo Osprey 9 and 45 will not fit inside of our handguards, but our 6.84" flat handguard shrouds were designed specifically with the Ospreys and their boosters in mind. With the Osprey installed, there is approx 1/8" gap to the face of the handguard from the back of the Osprey.
From the factory, the polymer handguard is held in compression between the upper receiver and barrel nut near the muzzle. It does not "free float" the barrel.
Currently... no plans to make them. But we have customers with the ASG scorpions; and I just ordered a couple for the shop because they look like a ton of fun! We will look at what it would take to retrofit our handguards (and other parts) to the ASG chassis :-)
HB Industries sweet, keep us posted as I'd love to have one. you guys still make the handguard that has the recession for the hand grip? so not the uniform parallel one.

Sexy grip. I'm awaiting a SB Tactical Side Folding Brace atm. May go with one of these later but really need a brace or stock first. Just wish I could put a buffer tube and regular stock on it without paying 200 bucks. I feel like my 2nd Amendment right is being infringed.
hah! im the guy that has been emailing you about this for the last few days, and i find this OLD video with my EXACT model Scorpion being serviced. im such an idiot.
Why not just use a socket? I get why the wrench might damage the finish. But, what knuckle dragging oaf can’t manage to remove a nut with a ratchet without damage??
Just a warning to new owners, the handgaurd tool is made from soft steel. Making it easy to round the barrel nut. The tool fails and the flats mushroom under the load needed to break the loctite. HBI has some quality stuff but the tool is not an advisable purchase.
It sounds like your tool may have been heat treated incorrectly? We would be more than happy to replace it for you if needed? Please just call or email us and we will take care of you. Side note, it is important that the tool be completely engaged with the barrel nut when torque is applied. The two flats on the barrel nut are very easy to slip off when rotating and that can cause damage to both the tool and the nut.
I take it you've never heard of crow's feet? Thats exactly what they are - wrench heads with a square hole in them so you can put them on a ratchet. They work places where a 6 or 12 point socket won't. They make them to use an existing ratchet handle so they can be smaller, use less material, and be cheaper. They are flexible because you can use a longer or shorter ratchet depending on how much room you have and how much leverage you need. I have several full sets of crows feet in my toolbox. And because they use my existing ratchet, I didn't end up buying 40 extra handles. On this scorpion, the barrel nut only has 2 flats. Its not a hex, so you can't use a socket on your ratchet to remove it. Instead, you use a crows foot or this tool.
Sorry, but this new part is absolutely wrong. 1) You replaced polymer for metal part? It's heavier and has poor thermal properties, metal accumulates heat. 2) You do not have the same color? It looks horrible :/ 3) Mounting a large metal block inside? Another additional weight and yet it will serve as a heat conductor. I would recommend rather agree with CZ to license and produce a modified front part of the same polymer and the same technology as CZ I am surprised that you were allowed to sell. I apologize for criticism, but the whole new front part seems to me unbalanced.
Mari B. 99.9% of the people that own a Scorpion will not be shooting full auto so the heat is pretty much a non issue, hundreds of guns have metal handguards. And as for the weight you are talking about a few measly ounces of difference. And as for you calling it "ugly", they make these handguards in black and FDE for those if us with flat dark earth Scorpions. Now the pros to this handguard, no more cheese grater, it's more rugged than the oem polymer, and it looks badass!
