Love the look of your Fields Notes! Never would've guessed that you had been too precious with it. It looks and feels really lived in and like a second brain. I used to do the same in smaller notebooks and weirdly it's when I moved to a bigger one that I feel like I've lost that a little. Really enjoyed your video!

Thank you so much! Your comment made me smile ☺️ I really want my pocket notebook to feel lived in & like an extension of my brain. That’s so interesting about switching to a bigger notebook; I’ve definitely considered a bigger one, but I wonder if I’d feel stifled by it too. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!

I agree that a commonplace should be with me at all times. I’m trying to wrap my head around using Goodnotes as my commonplace and just transfer information from my notebook. The alternative is use my iPad for everything and give up my notebook. That option makes me sad. Love the Jack London quote.

have you considered having your main notebook, then scanning the pages you want to keep digitally?

@@livsommers I have considered that but don’t like that idea as much. If my first option doesn’t work, I might try it.

I totally understand the debate of a notebook vs digital commonplace! I’ve being using both for a while and I’m liking it so far. I’m using a pocket notebook to write whatever I want in, and then I use Obsidian to keep notes that I want to reference a lot or want to be able to search for later. So some things are in both places, which might be redundant, but I think it’s worth it to get all the benefits of both 😌

I recently downsized to the same Field Notes NB. 😅 I needed something small that I could carry with me. An A6 size NB would be a great EDC commonplace book, too!

How fun! It’s so convenient to be able to carry it around easily. I think I’m going to try an A6 next, will definitely make another video when I do! 😊

Hi Dez! This is the first video of yours that I am watching. (:
I had a blast watching and listening to you! As you talked through more and more of your journals I found more and more in common with you! I just finished my first full year in Stardew. I was getting pretty bored in Winter.. but now that it’s Spring again I am excited to play. Hahaha. I love your cheerful spirit, it really shines through! I also think your desk and wooden drawers are beautiful. Looks like a really cozy place to study, read, and “stationery” haha.
I can’t remember who I saw this from.. but I saw someone cut a little slit in the back of their clean cover on the HON so that the pen loop would fit in it and not shift around. Just wanted to share since you mentioned it’s too flimsy to actually use it as a pencil board. I am also tempted to pick up an A6 or A5 cat notebook from the Hobonichi Spring 2024 release. They’re so freakin’ cute.
I have not been able to wrap my head around how to use a commonplace book. I am interested in many different things. So much that I have contemplating starting a bunch of different TN inserts. LOL. It’s cool to see that you commonplace so many different topics. Maybe I will give it a shot and see how it goes ~ I hope your crochet blanket is coming along well. I also crochet :)
I look forward to seeing how your journals evolve throughout the year! (:

update: I’ve started a commonplace book in an A5 dot grid Midori notebook! Thank you for the inspiration! 😊

This has got to be the sweetest comment I’ve received 🥹 thank you so much!
Cutting a slit in the HON clear cover for the pen loop is such a good idea! I may have to try it 😊
And I’m so excited you’re trying out a commonplace book! I’ve definitely tried the having-a-bunch-of-notebooks approach and it never works out for me. I do have to remind myself that it’s okay to write whatever I want in my commonplace book, even if it isn’t always pretty. I hope it’s working out for you! ☺️

Do you ever find the A5 Hon too big to keep up with? I’m having the same issues you are and I really want to have this great big book of everything that’s filled out and full of daily memories but it’s not going great😂 I’m considering switching to the a6 size to make it more manageable. Would you ever downgrade in size?

    • @dezs-diary

I definitely do find it hard to fill in all the time! I tried using an A6 last year actually and found that it was a little easier to keep up with, but that I often ran out of room when I was writing about my day. So there’s definitely a balance there. I’ve decided that I’m okay having blank pages in my A5 because I do really like the size ☺️ but I think it’s definitely personal preference, and an A6 could work for you!
