- In this game, Steven runs the Depths of Moria list led by the fearsome Balrog, while Andrew runs "Ride Out", the army list representing the iconic moment when Theoden and Aragorn draw swords together. #middleearthsbg #middleearth
Keep in mind you can call a heroic march with Aragorn and activate him first if you want to avoid charging!
Oh good call, that's an interesting one. Gamey, but I guess your only decent option in this case.
Really enjoy the batreps you are making
Thank you, happy to hear that!
Might is always the last thing that’s spent, so banners, lord of west rerolls etc always done before might spent, unless of course the reroll is yours and you don’t want to take the reroll
Thanks!
After re-looking at the breakdown in the book it's quite clear. appreciate the comment!
I actually think Ride Out as some teeth in competitive play. Ive seen Ride Out table Return of the King in 3 turns.
Aragorn going to S5, mounted legolas, rerolling all 1s in the duel roll, the hornburg. Its not nearly the best and definitely on the lower end of the spectrum, but it has insane tools that can really mess up certain opponents. Its weakness is definitely getting pulled apart due to objectives and such, but it really shines when it wants the fight.
Great to see the ball hog in action!
I really enjoy all your videos... the only big issue I have is that music, the sound balance is clearly wrong on my computer, I struggle to hear you talk, but I'm defend by the music.
Hey Joel, sorry to hear that! I'll be a bit more careful about that in the future.
I think the Riders list is design to pretty much only fight hordes of infantry and infantry heroes. If there's anything on the field you wouldn't want to immediately charge you could biff it pretty early.
Yeah that's about how I felt. Facing something where YOU'RE the scary thing on the table? Cool. Facing Balrog or Sauron or something really nasty? Maybe not.
Last Alliance would definitely be an exception as a prime target among infantry lists.
Andrew should've taken the Fornost list from the livestream for this battle :)
Boy does that Earnur-Glorfindel buddy cop duo BRUTALLY MURDER that Balrog (or anything like that), it ain' even funny...
Yeah, that list seems like it was made to beat the Balrog haha.
20:06 Bear with me guys, as I might be asking some more rules questions with new edition. Just curious how different groups are interpreting/playing things.
Banner and Might Order:
IMO, Might is ALWAYS last. I think I know what you guys are referring to with the Might first, then Banner.
Is it because there is something about a Banner not being able to be rolled if you are “winning” a duel?
You're correct. Might is always last.
12:10 This one is more a double check. I know Monsters got improved in this edition.
Are they now allowing regular Strikes from other models even when a Monster chooses to Rend? In this instance, I saw 5 dice rolled, so just curious.
@@Competentetyler hmmm I’ll need to re read. Assumed when you rend others still got to roll their strikes (unlike hurl and barge of course) BUT I almost never actually rend so I may be off! To the rulebook I go!
Would be really good if you posted the lists and the points in the description. Was this 700 points
Ah whoops, we usually put the lists up when we talk about them, just missed it this time. Yeah this was 700.
F for Aragorn smushed
Geez, i guess if I want to do Aragorn+ Mounted Rohan I'll be doing Road to Helms Deep
Or Pelennor!
Someone did point out that I could have marched with Aragorn to avoid charging. Feels weird, but a pretty good strategy. So maybe Ride Out isn't quite as bad as we thought.
@@NowForWrathGaming yeah Pelennor would be good to still have Gamling Banner but you'd lose a mount on Aragorn
@ You can have mount on Elessar, just not if you take eagles.
That's Men of the West, you big dummy
Ride out is just inhenintly bad.
Cavalry armies pay a lot of points to have movement superiority.
Ride out just completly turns this against you and give your opponent almost total board control for some extremely mediocre bonuses.
Well...
Think the Balrog was playing with his food there. Lots of cool list concepts this edition, and not a lot of them are implemented in ways that are particularly fun to play. Ride Out seems to be one of those ones stuck in the awkward phase of relying on Terror and a strong unified charge to get anything done. As soon as that isnt the answer or is taken from you - like being horribly outnumbered or facing Fearless lists or just mass shooting lists, seems to trip over itself a bit.
The correct thing to do with these bad lists is probably to shoot the enemy to death before you even get to fighting. But "just shoot the person that cant shoot you as good" being the only option for "gameplay" that these guys have is a bit disappointing strategically.
nah. There are ways to play this list (for one you have legolas) but also can easily get around the 'must charge' rule. I just don't think Andrew really knew how to use it, given its a first time out with it then fair enough.
@@jackwhorton6826 I would hope that Legolas is recognised as part of my observation that you should skirmish and shoot with this list until you think you can get your optimal charges.
I don't think that having ways to "get around" one of the three features of this army list is the vote of confidence you think it is about how fun the lists design is.
