    Poor Duck Creek... The club house burned down last year. This used to be a country club that went under. Then got picked up by someone else who has been trying to put in money to get the course up to par. Its been a struggle. That course used to be amazing.

      Duck Creek was OK. Without knowing the weather conditions hard to say why grass was kept long in places and extra water around in others.

    Middle class man here who loves playing golf! I grew up playing these types of courses… great deals! $36 for 18 with a cart and two waters… c’mon now! Municipal courses can be fun because they can be challenging due to the lack of care/management that the nicer courses provide. It’s best to use these courses for learning shots that you might not find yourself hitting in nicer establishments

    Hazy Hills Golf Course in Hudson, IL checks in at a 3.3 star rating. I've never played it, but I've also never seen so many negative reviews about a course owner. The best part is he seems to enjoy responding to the bad reviews. There's also Fresh Meadow Golf Club in Hillside, IL that's rated a 3.2.

      As a long time former member and two time club champion at Victoria, here’s the scoop. The greens and teeing areas have always been good due to them being built up (eliminating toxic chemicals getting through) The fairways went from poor to great after over a million $ was put into it. They are now beyond bad. You can’t grow grass on an old landfill is the lesson here.

    • @bubbajones1035
      @bubbajones1035 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      They are actually putting a lot of money into Victoria to get everything in shape. They have already redid the greens and they have new mats on the driving ranges, new ball picker, new mowers. The investment company is committed to updating the facilities and the course.

      Well, back in the 80’s & 90’s it was in decent shape. Some of the best golfers in Southern California were members there, winning multiple countywide team play championships. And, the tournaments and side bets were very lucrative for low handicap players.

    The greens at my home course have shrunk like 20ft over the passed 60 yrs and I have been trying to talk them into restoring them so the mounds, backstops, runoffs and sand traps are in play around the greens. It’s funny our bunkers are like 10 yards from edge of green now.

    I grew up on small town 9 hole goat tracks. I used to be a member at a club in the desert that had pea gravel for rough and telephone poles running across a few fairways. You hit a wire, the ball would go in alarming directions. I used to play on course in coastal Georgia right by a massive paper mill. The course ran through a swamp, and the paper mill stunk like toxic waste. One of my playing partners called it "Chernobyl." I used to play a course in the Midwest where every green was the same size, about 20 feet in diameter, and the greens were sand. You'd take a roller to smooth the greens a little before putting. I learned to play on a little 9 hole dump with train tracks running right by three holes. It could be deafening when one of those things would come through. I think I've played worse courses.

    I lived in the eagle crest neighborhood for about 5 years. From what I am told it used to be a really nice course. The owner died long time ago & was inherited by his wife, she put almost no money into it & let it die. There was a new housing development in the works that promised a lot of money going to the course. This was shot down a few years ago so she finally started putting some money into it, got a little better.
    However she sold the course a few months ago and the new owner is planning to put a lot of money into the course with a great company JC managing it.
    The grass was all fried because the first thing they did was over water the greens and killed just about everything else, it wasn’t exactly all green before, but it was nothing like that.
    Hopefully you can make it back out after the reopening all though I highly doubt it’ll be late summer 2024

    To your question about why the Texas courses have standing water: I think it's because we get long, hot, dry spells of weather then get just a downpour of rain (especially DFW area, storms are insane) so the dry ground can't absorb the water efficiently and you get a lot of standing water.
    Then again, these are supposed to be terrible golf courses so maybe it's poor planning and bad drainage.

      Agree. It is a dog. But Lakewood in Statesville is worse than any in this series. Lakewood has little grass, carts wheels are slicks, cart dird on us on front nine, brakes barely worked, leaves covering greens so bad we could not find a couple from the fairway. People in clubhouse are asses.
