I cannot get enough of how organic your videos are! By organic I mean that you don't make things and then recreate them for a video, you actually give us a part of you by letting us watch you do things for the first time! I absolutely LOVE that! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

WOW! You did a fantastic job. I simply LOVE making handmade books. This type of cover was one of the very first that I learned and it really is quite simple. I know that has been seven years ago now but I thought I might drop a tip here about getting the paper to fold better, where you had trouble. In handmade books your bone folder is your most valued tool. You need to use the pointed end to score the paper where you intend to fold it, or train your paper is what I learned. Then you can use it to lift the flap up. Anyway, hope that is helpful to anyone else that wants to make one.

Brilliant using envelopes. For journals I'm going to use I don't want a lot of stuff already added to it; I'm a writing journaler who enjoys writing whatever is in my mind for the day and perhaps adding personal photos, clippings, etc. The envelopes provide plenty of room for both!!

Great and easy book. For the next cover, if you are using thick good quality paper, wet the areas where you will crease it with water, then crease, this will reduce the cracking of the paper.

I watched this video a really long time ago - probably soon after you posted it -- then in either Oct or Nov 2017, in my local thrift store I came upon two huge bags of really nice ivory-colored envelopes -- marked down to 99 cents each -- I think they were wedding invitation envelopes that didn't sell, so they donated them -- because they are new and in perfect condition -- but I'd been looking all of that time -- finally ! our area has thawed out from the frigid winter we had, and I got out my envelopes to watch your video -- you should be proud of your cover -- it's beautiful. I think I'm going to decoupage mine and maybe crochet a doily or something for the cover -- mine is not as large as yours -- I can't wait to use it. When my son was six, my friend gave me two really nice, large journals for Christmas, because I journaled a lot, and I made one for my son -- I printed pictures at home and put little notes he wrote -- sadly, the towers from 9-11 were there, but also his joy at seeing sharks right up against the window at the Baltimore Acquarium -- our house burned down in 2005, but by God's grace, his journal was spared, and I treasure it -- I'm 61 now and he is 27 and grown. Smush your little girl down and don't let her grow up -- : ) -- it comes so much faster than you can imagine - I love your channel -- you encouraged me to do cosmos paintings, which I love -- I use acrylics; I'm lousy with water colors, but the pictures are all over our house -- I live in the US. My country is so divided, I firmly believe it is through the arts that we can forget our differences, if only for a moment, and remember the beauty of life. I appreciate your time and effort to post these videos. I just started my own channel -- 3rscrafting JTB -- the Rs are reduce, reuse, recycle -- and this project does all of that -- be well, God bless -- Patricia

Again just like the little books from one piece of paper, you have refreshed my memory on how to make this too, as I had forgotten about them, so thank you so much Marta!! I actually preferred you doing the cover, 'off the cuff' unrehearsed, because I enjoyed watching your thought process, this is how I do some of my videos, so people can see that we are all the same and even experts/designers/teachers have the same thought processes as someone only doing this for the first time! Thank you I could watch you all day, I love your accent & sweet voice! Hugs from England, Vick xxx

This is such a creative idea! And I wouldn't worry about the rough edges where you folded the scrapbook paper over the cover. It just adds to the vintage/distressed look that the paper already has!

This is 2 years later but maybe someone will read it = I think Marta should have used her bone folder (scoring tool) over the folded over edges and it would have smoothed them out. Just an idea.

Thank you so much for this fabulous tutorial! I adore the fact that you leave in all your "mistakes" which are not really, but trial and error! You make it so much more personal ... a one to one discussion almost! I also adore your accent, which I have been trying to guess where you are from, but every now and then, there seems to be a trace of Irish accent .... lol! I have a similar thing with me, people keep trying to guess where I am from, as I seem to have so many different accents going on from all the places I have lived! I too, could listen to you all day, I love how you put things across! Thank you so much! xx

2nd time watching this, still loving it. Haha. The whole idea of making a journal from envelopes is so brilliant, it really is. It opens up so many possibilities, recycled envelopes, dollar store , handmade, all white, different colors, different papers, recycled papers AND handmade, etc. And the you get to decorate... or not. You could make up a bunch real fast, plain white would be best, and have class rooms decorate them and hand them out at senior centers or have the kiddos mail them off to elderly family members. So many fun things to do in this life how can anyone be bored? Love and hugs for all on this beautiful day ☺

Dear sweet Martha, I love your first journal, the cover is so beautiful & the idea of using envelopes for the pages is really great! You don't really have to have a big paper to cover all the cover, you can do it with two pieces (one for the front & one for the back cover) and use a third for the spine, just a bit wider from the spine to cover a little bit the front & back pieces. The problem with the broken edges of the paper at the points where it folds has happened to me too. In order to hide it and protect the paper, I have put a layer of gel medium on it. Another idea is to distress all the edges and color it with your favorite distress color. Thank you for your lovely & inspiring videos! 💖💖💖💖💖

I love it!! I love how pleased you are as well! That's exactly how I would feel. You make it look so easy. The best part is how perfectly imperfect you assembled it. Sometimes it's the imperfections or mistakes that make a project more lovable. I struggle with being a perfectionist and that's where crafting helps me learn to just create and enjoy the process. I can't wait to try this!!

I made myself 5 ...10 page, (20) both sides..lovely, journals with craft paper envelopes 💗💗💗 they are beautiful. The thickness of craft paper is gorgeous and strong , very unique envelope journals. I picked up a pack of 50 from Michaels approximately 5 dollars ,a few months ago! and thought there was blank cards to match. It was when I was looking for envelopes for this project that I discovered that it was only envelopes. A happy accident 😃🤗, I need to get another box lol I'm just so happy with the unique color & quality. I made 5 out of that box and can use one for art journaling and they are the only diy tutorial I have found making them how you created these types of journals😉many ideas but none created like your idea! thank you! I love this new direction your exploring into, keep up the imagination, uniqueness and cost friendly ideas. My creative mind has been awoken to more ideas each day, all thanks to you Marta💞 sending you creative hugs and huge thank you!

I'm not very good on making awesome things like this, BUT, I'm going to give it a try for my granddaughter and hope mine comes out just half as nice as yours. Your videos are GREAT easy to follow, which is nice for me some people on You Tube have videos that are HARD to follow but your videos have been easy for me to understand. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I love that you have your normal household running in the back ground, (you commented on not being so professional, well, I think they are great). First time I actually sat down to craft with you Marta. It was so easy all the way through putting envelopes together in pairs, then putting the pairs together to form the journal. However, it was too lose and floppy for me. I was very pleased that all the envelopes were even and very neat, when held together. I started to glue my pages, and my journal got wonky. Think next time it would be easier to glue the pairs together. Thanks for all your videos. I watch something everyday, plus visit the cafe.

I absolutely loved this tutorial and I can’t wait to make one! I especially loved the creation on the cover as you took us on the journey together...in its “imperfection” makes it even more beautiful!

Marta, thank you for the inspiration. Try burnishing the tape before you remove the tape back, it comes off easier.
