I believe if he kept his elevation higher it could be too light and wispy, Especially if it was on someone with finer hair. So that's something you would judge for each guest in your chair. By lowering the elevation he's maintaining a stronger outline is all. If you didn't want that, or if your guest had very thick hair you might elevate more 😊
Interesting tecnique. From wat i know u should cut a face frame in the area of the natural fall of the frame. Meaning almost 45 degrees between the top of the head and a verical line on the ear . That way you ensure the line is perfectly connected . If you move to the other side and try to create a face frame the line wont be connected and you could possibly create a hole in the face frame.
