Looks like it’ll be a minute ‘til our favorite rappers and singers can return to the box in DUMBO, so we’re bringing Ctrl at Home to ya. Because the music never stops, and wise voices need to be heard now more than ever. And who better than Inglewood’s SiR to kick off things? The versatile R&B singer often puts intimacy in the foreground of his tunes. Last year’s ‘Chasing Summer,’ his first album released while on the same roster as Kendrick Lamar and SZA, is a cool breeze of hip-hop rhythms and neo-soul vibes. When the Vevo Ctrl team caught up with SiR (over a video call, don’t worry), he was holding it down in his hometown Los Angeles. And while our studio has been replaced by SiR’s own, the energy is the same: just an artist and the mic. “The Recipe” and “John Redcorn” sound sharp. The latter song is a meditation on struggle and loneliness, sure to hit a little different these days.

SiR’s beautiful church grown vocal pipes with his very sharp pen game on this record is so dang beautiful. Then this very beautifully smooth performance brings it even more to life. How can you not love SiR as one of your favorite singer and songwriters that has truly transcended the R&B and Futuristic Neo-Soul genre over the last half decade? How he was not nominated for any Grammys when he put out one of the most definitive albums of the last half decade with, Chasing Summer. Still baffles me.
