"Crop cultivation in places with rainfall above 750 mm is known as ""dryland farming."" The primary goal of sustainable agriculture in drylands is to raise crops and feed cattle in a way that efficiently uses the limited water resources available, without using harmful farming techniques, without overgrazing, or in any other way putting vulnerable marginal lands in danger. Millets like ragi, oilseeds like mustard and rapeseed, and pulse crops like pigeon pea, gram, and lentil are the main crops grown for dry farming.
Fruit crops with deep roots and a long growing season are best for dry land farming. Traditional stiff and drought-resistant crops used for economic purposes in dry land include tamarind, rose, mango, guava, custard, soursop, bur, pomegranate, fig, and jackfruit.
